Memories, ghost stories and movements.
Gemma and I have now facilitated three workshops with young people in care in Portstewart, Lurgan and Ballymena. We have played with ideas about what makes good theatre, how to bring words alive through images, how to use theatre to say the unsayable and how to make images and words come together on stage. The young people have brought so many ideas to the room, it’s been totally brilliant for us as facilitators and for the project. They’ve used poetry and text to devise short scenes and have played with craft and form to write new short monologues.
One participant told us that he didn’t want to go, in fact he said he was ‘forced to’, but that he was really glad that he’d been there. We were really glad to have him and all the other participants in the room working with us. Thank you!
