they had every reason to not divulge their relationship until now but I'm so glad they did because there's genuinely no greater knowledge than the fact that two queer kids could become a safe place for each other and weather every storm for 16 years and only come out happier and stronger in the face of it. every single story like theirs is a blessing just to know it exists

and the fact that they specifically acknowledge in the video that one of their motivations for coming out now is BECAUSE of the rising conservative homophobic sentiments as a way of letting the world know that queer people are here and not going anywhere. they are genuinely inspiring, wonderful wonderful people

i just. i was around for every era dan and phil were describing. like i saw the invasive questions. i was on here when their full home address got leaked. i was here watching the valentine's day video being passed around under the table and working to try and get it taken down. i was here watching them fight tooth and nail for an inch of privacy and watching how it impacted their friendships, and knowing how much all of it was affecting their relationship behind closed doors is so heartbreaking. and knowing now that they feel they're at a place where they can share that part of their lives with us is so brilliant. here's to you, lads. and thank you, from teenage me who spent her years in the closet looking up to two men who made her laugh, and now feels like she can also be the truest, realest version of herself.
