The Lifestyle Challenge

Goal: To explore the new  lifestyle feature, play a few different careers and explore the Snowy Escape  EP in a more relaxed way allowing for lots of storytelling.              

RULES (unless otherwise specified)

Lifespan: normal       

No money cheats     

No odd jobs or part time  jobs     

Having the heir is  recommended in the middle of the YA life span if you want to play out the character´s story through different life stages

This  challenge is designed to explore several features of The Sims 4 without the  pressure of completing aspirations, max out skills or reach the top of  careers. While players can choose to do so, it is not mandatory. 

Some traits  or aspirations are recommended to make the lifestyles easier to get. A backstory  is provided for each generation, but the flexibility of this challenge allows  players to play out their own stories.

I tried to give each generation positive and negative aspects and to give them real struggles, but I also intended to give enough freedom for the player to decide the ultimate fate of the characters and whether they ever work through their defects or embrace them fully.

This challenge requires the new Snowy Escape Sims 4 Expansion Pack (lifestyles).

The careers, skills and aspirations are from base game and other packs, but I believe there is an option for everyone.

Bonus Generation 6: Post-Apocalyptic Survivor

Other generations

This last generation is inspired by other post-apocalyptic challenges such as these: Murkland challenge, Apocalypse challenge.

TRIGGER WARNING: Sensitive topics

Main Goals: Get the technophobe and indoorsy lifestyle. You may choose the third lifestyle (we have covered all of them in previous generations) if it does not conflict with the other 2. Maintain at least 2 of them throughout your sim’s lifespan.

Rules

Set the lifespan to short.

Change your lot´s traits to Off the Grid

Leave the lot only when absolutely necessary

Toddler: You choose

Child: You choose

Teen: Insane, clumsy or noncommittal

YA: You choose

Aspiration

Choose Renaissance Sim. You do not need to complete it unless you want to.

Skills

Since there is nothing you can really do outside, cultivate indoor skills such as violin, piano, singing, painting and wellness.

Careers

No career is required. You may sell some of the harvestables and anything you craft. You may choose a career if you want, just know that tech related careers will make it hard to acquire the tecnophobe lifestyle.

  BACKSTORY

Civilization as we know it ended when you were a teen. Things went out of control after years of war, alien invasion, and diseases. As a child, you saw how it all began. Your parents said that you could never trust other people anymore and that going outside could be dangerous.

 SIM´S PERSONALITY

Once everything explodes, go to manage worlds and demolish several houses. You can also choose to move to Newcrest if you have not build many lots. The point is to make it look devastated. You may also download post Apocalyptic lots from the gallery if you want to.

As a teen, you and your parents build an underground bunker. You cook only with the harvestables from your parent´s greenhouse. Your parent (the sim you played with last generation) is an outdoor person, so he or she insists in spending time outside, which causes conflicts with your other parent. Your parent gets abducted by aliens one night (learn how to make it happen here. Get to work is required). You may also choose to move the sim out and not place it back into the world. This experience shocks you so much that you decide to never (or almost never) leave the bunker again except to cook in the grill. Your other parent is so afraid of getting caught or running into bad people that they teach you that technology is dangerous. You can´t sell your electronics, so you sabotage them instead.

When you become a Young Adult, your other parent passes away and you are all alone. One day, you decide to go outside to find new plants to harvest and you meet someone. For some reason, you trust them immediately and decide to introduce yourself. You become friends quickly and move in together.

I leave the ending of this challenge up to you. Will that person be actually trustworthy, or do they have dark, hidden intentions? What will happen to your sim is up to you. Will humanity be restored, or will civilization die with them?

Generation 5: Green and Comfy

Other generations Main Goals: Get the outdoorsy, close knit and sedentary lifestyle and maintain at least 2 of them throughout your sim’s lifespan.

Rules

If you changed the lifespan to long, change it back to normal.

As a child, work hard on developing strong relationships with your parents.

Never have more than 3 good friends at a time.

Avoid high energy careers and activities and never visit the gym.

Have only one child.

Toddler: Clingy, charmer or angelic

Child: Lazy

Teen: Green Fiend

YA: You choose

Aspiration

Choose one or more of the following: Eco Innovator, Freelance Botanist, Beach Life, Angling Ace, Outdoor Enthusiast or The Curator.  You do not need to complete it unless you want to.

Skills

Reach at least level 5 in two or more of the following skills: Fishing, Flower Arranging, Gardening, Herbalism, Juice Fizzing

Careers

You may choose one or more of the following careers: Gardener, Conservationist, Civil Designer or Fisherman (part time)

BACKSTORY

You spent your childhood traveling the world with your parents. You were remarkably close to your parents and siblings, but it was hard for you to make long lasting friendships because you never stayed in the same place for too long. At some point, you decided not to spend time with people with whom you know you can´t build a strong relationship. To you, family always comes first.

All the traveling made you an outdoorsy person. You love sightseeing nature.

 SIM´S PERSONALITY

Unlike your parents, you do not enjoy the adventure side of traveling. You prefer hiking, going to Onsen baths, relaxing in a hot tub, or spending time in beautiful gardens and beaches. When you become a teen, you decide to find some independence and move to Sulani. Your sibling decides to join you and, while it is not the complete independence you were looking for, you agree because deep down you don´t want to be away from your family.

You spend long hours sailing, getting a suntan or in the hot tub. You are a little bit afraid of the ocean, so you do not swim very often. Comfort and relaxation are your life moto.

As a Young adult, you build a small greenhouse and do a lot of gardening. Your use the flowers fruits, and plants you grow to make candles, juice or flower arrangements and sell them as a side-gig. You may also own a retail business.

After watching a documentary about climate change and pollution, you decide to do everything you can to contribute to a greener, cleaner world. Your sibling is a slob, which causes some conflict with your new chosen lifestyle. Let the drama unravel. Will it become too hard to live with them? Will you kick them out? You can add some gameplay by turning your sim into a Sim Plant.

Don´t forget to have an heir if you decide to do the last bonus generation.

Generation 4: The Travel Influencer

Other generations

Main Goals: Get the techie lifestyle, adrenaline seeker and frequent traveler lifestyle and maintain at least 2 of them throughout your sim’s lifespan.

Rules

If you do not have a lot of money from previous generations, you may cheat and add enough funds for your sim to survive and afford going on vacations.

Yoy may change the lifespan to long for this generation

Go on hikes regularly.

Explore Selvadorada (Jungle Aventure) and reach the temple at least once.

Climb Mt. Komorebi at least once.

Visit each of the 3 festivals in Mt. Komorebi and/or each of the 3 festivals in San Myshuno. Buy souvenirs.

Use as much technology as you can and post on Simstagram the pics of your travels.

Move to Mt. Komorebi as a YA and marry either a local from Selvadorada or Mt. Komorebi.

Child: Adventurous

Teen: You choose

YA: You choose

Aspiration

Choose Rambunctious Scamp as a child. As a teen, you may choose between City Native, Outdoor Enthusiast, The curator, Mt. Komorebi  Sightseer, Extreme Sports Enthusiast or Beach Life.

You do not need to complete it unless you want to.

Skills

Reach at least level 3 in Skiing and Rock Climbing

Max the Selvadoradian culture skill (level 5)

Careers

No career is required, but you may make money from collecting items and selling them or by selling the photos you take in your travels. You may choose any career, but going on vacations often will hinder your professional development.

BACKSTORY

Your family is wealthy, and you always had everything you wanted. Your childhood was spent in front of a screen, whether it was a Wabbit tablet or the most expensive PC or gaming console.

Your parent was always super busy working and never took a day off, but you were constantly traveling with either your grandparents or your other parent.

SIM´S PERSONALITY

Once you become a teen, you make it a habit to visit festivals. You meet people from around the world, so you grow an interest in other cultures and countries. You know you won´t need to worry about money in the future, so you don´t pay much attention to school. Each season, you travel to a different destination (you can use the new rental lot feautre to turn any residential lot into a vacation lot or you can visit the destination worlds). Each weekend you make sure you work on your rock climbing/skiing skills and share everything to your social media.      

When you become a young adult, you fight with your parent about not wanting to follow his/her steps. You refuse to be trapped within 4 walls, 9-5, Monday to Friday. You promise yourself to never live a boring life. Your love and appreciation for other languages and cultures is such that you end up marrying a local from Selvadorada or Mt. Komorebi. Together, you move to Mt. Komorebi and spend your days traveling and looking for adventure. Your dream is to climb Mt. Komorebi at least once.

Your parent had threatened you to leave you out of the will, but after finally taking the day off and spending a holiday together and meeting your newborn, they take it back. You have a happy wholesome family.

Generation 3: The workaholic snob

Other generations

Main goals:  Get the workaholic, coffee fanatic, and energetic lifestyles and maintain at least 2 of them throughout your sim’s lifespan.

Rules

Drink lots of coffee

Workout at least 4 sim days every week.

Don´t ever take a free day

Traits

Toddler: wild

Child: You choose

Teen: Active

YA: Ambitious, Snob, Mean or Materialistic

Aspiration

Choose any Deviance Aspiration, or Fortune Aspiration or the World Famous Aspiration

You may change the aspiration; you do not need to complete it unless you want to.

Skills

Reach at least level 7 Fitness. Reach at least level 5 of one or more of the following skills: Acting, Charisma, Mischief or Logic.

Career

Choose one of the following careers: Actor, Criminal, Doctor, Politician, Law or Business or Salary Person (see Sims´s personality below). Try to get promoted constantly.

 BACKSTORY

 You were raised in a house full of art and creativity and were always encouraged to learn new skills. While your family is highly creative, you are far more interested in sports. You love being the best at everything. From a very young age, you are very competitive and very proud of yourself.

 SIM’S PERSONALITY

 Your dream as a teen is to be rich and/or famous. You like to make known your opinions about everything and you don´t care if you hurt others. You call it “being transparent” but the truth is that you´re just a snob and quite mean. You have a very active life in your teenage years, and you love running marathons, so you train every morning before school.

You acquire a very refined taste and style. You are always looking for ways to stand out and decide to join the Drama Club. You even decide to adopt a fox as a pet because you enjoy when people stare at you on the street.

SEVERAL OPTIONS

1)     THE MEAN ACTOR/ACTRESS

When you become a YA, you may decide to become an actor. If you choose this path, you must do everything in your power to get continuous gigs and be as famous as you can. You are known to be very snobbish and mean on set, but you appear as a kind soul on screen and people love you for that. You must  build a mansion in Sunset Valley (you can either live there or make it a summer home.To do that you must buy a retail lot. Build a regular house and never open the business).

You spend most of your time at work and when you are home you practice your acting skill and keep training at the gym or going for a jog continuously. You eat out a lot and drink lots of coffee every day to compensate for the lack of sleep.

You may choose to marry a famous sim and then get a divorce. Your spouse is not happy that you are never home.

2)     THE SNOBBISH WORKAHOLIC

You want to be rich and important, so you decide to join one of the best paying careers. Choose between doctor, criminal, business, or salary person careers. Move to an expensive apartment in San Myshuno or Evergreen Harbor.

You can decide whether your sim gets rich by doing good to the community (being a doctor), the dirty way (criminal), meddling into politics (politician or attorney) or by climbing the corporate ladder (business/salary person).

You work long hours and do everything you can to complete the tasks to get promoted, but you never stop training at the gym or going for a jog. You eat out a lot and drink lots of coffee every day to compensate for the lack of sleep.

You can choose whether your sim gets married or not but remember to have an heir to continue the legacy.

Once you have kids, you give them all they ever wanted and the latest technology.

Generation 2: A Loner Artist

Other generations

Main goals:  Get the Junk Food Fiend, Single and Loving it and Indoorsy lifestyles and maintain at least 2 of them throughout your sim’s lifespan.

Rules

When your sim becomes a young adult, they must move to another Sim world and adopt a cat.

You must own at least 15 pieces of art in your house before moving to the next generation.

Traits

Toddler: you choose

Child: you choose

Teen: Loner

YA: You choose

Aspiration

Choose bestselling author, Master Maker, Painter Extraordinaire or Renaissance Sim.  

You may change the aspiration; you don’t need to complete it unless you want to.

Skills

Reach level 5 of one or more of the writing, painting, woodworking or fabrication. Reach at least level 3 of the baking skill.

Career

You may make money from selling baked goods or anything you craft as a side gig. Explore the Freelancer career in the Digital Artist, Writer or Crafter branches.

BACKSTORY

Your parent thought it would be best to just have you so that they could shower you with love, attention, and care. They only cooked healthy meals for you as a toddler/child and were always trying hard to build a relationship with you. While you appreciate all of this, you hate feeling that your life has been planned for you. Unlike your parent, who was clearly hungry for love, attention, and friends, you take a quieter approach to life. You were so sick of having your parent’s “friends” coming in and out of your house that you prefer spending time alone. You would much rather stay at home eating cookies and reading a good book. As a child, spend time doing indoor activities and cultivating your creative skill.

SIM’S PERSONALITY

When you become a teen, you decide you are a loner and that you’re happy that way. You discover how very creative you are and you decide to cultivate your writing, painting or crafting skills (or all of them if you want). You must avoid healthy food and eat junk food or desserts as much as you can. You refuse to leave your house unless it is necessary. You’re self-taught. Instead of going to college, you study online or by reading skill books.

When your sim becomes a young adult, they must move to another Sim world. Despite growing up surrounded by dogs, you realize you´re a cat person and adopt one. Try to have at least one romantic relationship for long enough as to become tense and have a baby. You can decide whether to make your sim miserable by taking away their independence or you can fulfil their wish to stay unmarried forever.

Generation 1: Hungry for love

Other generations

Main goals: Get the Hungry for Love, People Person and Health  Food Nut lifestyles and maintain at least 2 of them throughout your sim’s  lifespan.

Rules

Starter funds, no money cheats 

Have or adopt only 1 child

Traits

Toddler: Clingy

Child: you can choose

Teen: Romantic.

YA: You can pick the other one.

 Aspirations

Choose Friend of the World or Party Animal. You do  not need to complete it unless you want to, but it will help with the  lifestyles. You may switch to any of the Family Aspirations once you have a  child.

 Skills

Reach at least Snowboarding level 5, Cooking level  5, Gourmet Cooking level 3.

Career

Going to Uni is optional, but you need to pick one  or more of these careers as a YA: Entertainer, Actor, Style Influencer or  Social Media.

 BACKSTORY

When you were a toddler, your  parents took a trip to Selvadorada in which your dad tragically passed away.  Alone with a toddler, 3 dogs, and a baby on the way, your mother decided to  move to Mt. Komorebi. She decided to deal with the loss by reconnecting with  her origins and teaching you and your baby brother/sister all about the  culture of your ancestors. Your mother never fully recovered from the past  and had a hard time making money as she had no education or high-level  skills, but she did her best to provide for your family. Despite her efforts  to balance work and family, you felt a bit neglected by your mother and felt  responsible for your baby brother/sister. You were always trying to get her  attention and cherished every little moment you spent with her. Being home  all day caring after your baby brother/sister, you never had many friends as  a child.

 SIM’S PERSONALITY

Once you become a teen, you are so  hungry for attention and friends that you spend your time trying to meet more  people and constantly falling in love. You struggle to make meaningful,  lasting connections and you keep your relationships superficial (must have  more than 4 “friends”). You love watching romance and you are the one who  initiates romantic interactions. What people think of you is incredibly  important. You try to please your mother by diligently doing your  homework, eating only healthy meals, and practicing your snowboarding skills.

When you are a young adult, you can  choose to get married and fulfill your sim’s desire to be eternally loved or  you may opt to make your sim jump from one relationship to the next. You must  adopt or have only 1 child and constantly try to influence their decisions.
