“That is a nice line. Oh no…truly. It’s very smooth,” Billie said, her lips parting to reveal a beaming smile. “You tell that to every girl you meet?”
Cameron shook his head, impressed by the woman sitting next to him. It wasn’t every day that someone was so eager to call him out on his bull shit. In fact, unless it was another lawyer or his best friend, most people seemed to be…intimidated by him. Yet this woman didn’t seem to bat an eyelash. There was an inner strength to her…a confidence that was evident without being overly pronounced.
Tilting his head, he listened as Billie began to speak about her career. His eyebrows arched as she mentioned that she owned her business, and it was a successful one at that. He had heard of The Tribe. Many of the secretaries and paralegals went there to work out. Of course, Cameron had never been himself, as he typically worked out alone in his home gym. Yet, now he was almost regretting not at least stopping by to see what all the buzz was about. Perhaps he could have met her earlier…
“I opened it about two years ago. Definitely not as interesting as having to convince the court to be on your client’s side. Though I do have to fight the Karen’s of the world quite often,” Billie said with a smile.
“Oh, please,” Cameron said with a laugh. “I would rather fight a power-hungry, corrupt District Attorney than face a Karen any day of the week.”
“Your friend is really lucky, by the way. I don’t know Bryce that well. I know who she is…been at her bakery a couple of times. But she seems nice and she’s pretty, and she can bake,” Billie said, bringing Cameron’s attention back to his friend Thomas, who was still chatting up the blonde baker.
“He is quite introverted,” Cameron said with a smile. “I’m surprised he’s still talking to her….he isn’t much for conversation. I suppose that’s why we’re friends.”
Lifting up his whiskey glass, he took a small sip of The Manhattan before looking back at Billie.
"What would you be doing if you hadn’t bumped into me? Seems like we were both headed out of the door before…you know all this went down.”
“Ah…” Cameron said, finishing off his drink. “Well, I would like to tell you that my plans for the evening were exciting and adventurous…but I was heading home. There are still some files I need to read through, an opening argument that needs to be written for a trial I have in a few weeks…” A small smile graced his lips as the bartender brought him a second drink. “Being a stylish defense lawyer isn’t all charm and sex-appeal, unfortunately. There’s actual work to be done. And what about you? What were you planning for your evening?”
Billie followed Cameron’s blue eyes move to look at the tall dark-haired man who was talking to the blonde baker, they softened as his lips curled up into a smile; she could tell the friendship there was genuine by the way the lawyer’s demeanor switched for a couple seconds, “He isn’t much for conversation. I suppose that’s why we’re friends.” Cameron said causing Billie to grin a little bit as she shook her head.
“Silent friendships huh… doesn’t surprise me.” She said with a smile before she went on and asked what he would be doing if it weren’t for them bumping into one another. The brunette brought her drink up to her lips and watched him as he began to answer, finishing his drink first.
“Well, I would like to tell you that my plans for the evening were exciting and adventurous…but I was heading home.” He said, stealing a small laugh from the former escort’s lips before she went on and finished off her drink, getting the bartenders attention and asking for another one as she continued to listen to the man. He had a way of speaking, small comments that made him relatable enough but immediately throwing a following phrase that put up again the wall of the desirable cold and smooth lawyer; letting them near but not close enough, she knew because she had the same way of functioning when it came to her social life. She could meet people be somewhat friendly with those she didn’t immediately disliked but never letting them close enough to see the cracks on the façade she put on every day to keep her past from peaking through. “Being a stylish defense lawyer isn’t all charm and sex-appeal, unfortunately.” He said and she rolled her eyes at him as she grinned then gently shook her head, letting him finish. “There’s actual work to be done. And what about you? What were you planning for your evening?” He asked.
The woman played briefly with the glass between her hand lightly sliding it from left to right for a second before she looked back at Cameron, “Truth?” She asked and smiled, “I was escaping from a terrible date that I didn’t want to have in the first place.” She said letting out a chuckle, “I was here for over an hour getting my ear assaulted by this guy who could only talk about how much money he had made and how little he thought about his former female business partner.” She said shaking her head, “So I was probably going to go home, open a bottle, order some food and find something to read or watch. Exciting, huh?” She said with a grin before her eyes shifted to look around the room for a moment only to realize that Luke was walking around looking for her.
“Well shit.” She said taking a small breath as she took a sip of her drink and turned to Cameron, “Speaking of.” She said before she looked to her side as Luke moved next to her and cleared his throat.
“What the hell happened to you?” He asked before he looked at Cameron and for a moment, Luke froze causing Billie to arch an eyebrow while she finished sipping on her drink and tilted her head wondering what was happening.
“Some kids accidentally hit me, there was a fight and I got hit while leaving.” She said looking up at Luke.
“Leaving? With him? So you found someone better to do, I see.” He asked and Billie rolled her eyes in annoyance.
“Oh wow.” She said, letting out a sarcastic short laugh due to Luke’s attitute.
cameronclark-rp:
Cameron arched his brows in surprise as he heard the woman order Sbagliato. The way she asked for the wine without mispronunciation was indicative of someone who spoke at least some Italian. He titled his head, intrigued.
"Billie Taylor,” the woman said, taking Cameron’s hand and shaking it. “Surely not an attorney. I don’t like confrontation.” A soft laugh escaped her lips.
“You could have fooled me,” he said with a grin.
“I’m making an assumption, but it seems you don’t particularly like crowded places. What brought you here?”
“You would be making a correct assumption, Ms. Taylor. But I’m here because I try to force myself out every now and then. And…I was trying to get my friend to socialize,” Cameron lifted his hand and pointed toward the opposite end of the bar. “Yet, my friend decided to socialize with the baker. Which is good for him. I don’t think he’s talked to a woman in thirty years.” Letting out a chuckle, Cameron brought the Manhattan to his lips. “Besides…there are perks to crowded places. I wouldn’t have bumped into you…quiet literally.”
Letting out a contented sigh, Cameron titled his head. “So, what do you do? For work…obviously.”
She was attractive, the lawyer thought to himself as he watched her. Her long, wavy dark brown hair brought out the intensity of her crystal blue eyes. Sharp cheekbones, full lips, porcelain skin…Cameron couldn’t help but appreciate her beauty.
It wasn’t as if the lawyer was desperate for companionship. He wasn’t the kind of man who dated, and typically, most of his relationships were one-night stands. It had been a long time since he had been interested in someone…well interested in something other than physical. Yet, as Billie began to speak, Cameron found himself actually listening, instead of just letting his eyes linger on certain aspects of her body.

“You could have fooled me,” He said and Billie genuinely chuckled lightly as she thought about how his comment represented her life as she had fooled everyone around her on a daily basis for many years; people she worked with, old friends, boyfriends, her brother… she truly believed there was nobody in the world who truly knew her, she knew she was the first one to keep that from happening but at the same time she hated how lonely it could be. As the man talked about himself Billie put her full attention on his words and the mannerisms that he showed as he spoke; how he used his hands at time but never over did it, clearly something he had mastered due to his job as body language was a key trait for lawyers and people who practically needed to convince others that they were telling the truth. She noticed as he talked about his friend, the tall man who was talking to the owner of Bryce’s Baked Goods, Cameron let out a genuine chuckle and she knew it because of the how light his voice sounded and the way his smile reached his eyes for once causing the brunette to smile back as she found his laugh quite cute. And then almost like a switch that he turned back on, he spoke again and looked at her with a grin that caused her to tilt her head.
“Besides…there are perks to crowded places. I wouldn’t have bumped into you…quiet literally.” He said, the business owner tilted her head and shook it lightly as she laughed softly.
“That is a nice line. Oh no, truly… it’s very smooth.” She said with a light chuckle as she looked at him and shook her head, “You tell that to every girl you meet?” She teased arching an eyebrow before she went ahead and began to answer his questions… sort of. “I am not a lawyer.” She began before taking a sip of her drink, “I own this place, it’s a fitness center called The Tribe.” She said with a small smile, she was proud of it but part of her knew it had been founded on dirty money, money that she needed to make look as good in order to keep herself out of trouble and her brother in the best treatments for CF money could get. “I opened it about two years ago, definitely not as interesting as to having to convince court to be on your client’s side, though I do have to fight the Karens of the world quite often.” She laughed softly before she brought her drink up to her lips again to take a sip, she narrowed her eyes for a second or two as she looked at him taking in how his blue eyes stared back at her with mischief and curiosity behind them; she had sparked some interest. She couldn’t deny she was intrigued by him.
“One night, one talk. Can’t hurt.” She thought to herself as she placed her drink down, “Your friend is really lucky by the way, I don’t know Bryce that well. I know who she is, been at her bakery a couple of times. But she seems nice and she’s pretty, and she can bake. They seem to have the same shy introvert stance as they are talking” she said with a chuckle as she looked at them again and grinned, “Seems like a good match.” She said and smiled before turning to Cameron once again, “What would you be doing if you hadn’t bumped into me? Seems like we were both headed out of the door before… you know all this went down.” She said with a chuckle as she waved at the side of her face which was beginning to bruise.
Favorites time! What is your favorite....? color, sweet food, author/book, movie, and season
Favorite color is green. Favorite sweet food those giant chocolate chip skillet cookies. My favorite author is Jane Austen and my favorite book is Persuasion. My favorite movie is Almost Famous and my favorite season is Summer or Fall mostly because those are the months where my brother is less likely to have respiratory complications.
We all have a weird thing we did as teenagers. What was the weird thing you did?
Well, crazy and stupid thing I did when I was a teen. I was around fifteen I believe, and it was a night that was pouring outside and I was with my friends all of us rushing to get to our houses so I fell down my phone, which by the way was one of those sidekick phones that were very on trend back then, so my phone slips out of my pocket and falls into a storm drain so like the idiot that I am I decided to get into the drain to get my phone. I ended up stuck there and fighter fighters had to come rescue me. I was on the news the next day.
What do you think is the worst thing that can be done to a person?
There’s a lot of things in this world. There’s a lot of horrible things that can be done to someone. Anything that hurts somebody that is bad enough. You can’t quite rank that.
Who was your last relationship with, and why did it end? Do you wish that things would have turned out differently? Is there anything you would have done differently to change the outcome?
This is very complicated answer because my life has been nothing but extremely complex for many years. I’m not sure I can call it a relationship… but sometimes it felt like it, though logically I knew I was nothing but an obsession and a contract. As an escort, this man became… quite obsessed with me; he found my real identity and without asking he decided he was going to take care of me and my brother – financially at least, Samuel never knew about Vince. I went along with it out of fear and necessity, I didn’t think I could tell him no because… well, I had heard what happened to those who denied him; Vince wasn’t someone who knew how to take a no for an answer, if someone didn’t give him what he wanted he never hesitated on taking it by force, and even though he wasn’t never psychically aggressive with me I knew what he was capable of. So, I stuck around… until he passed away. Would I do something different? I don’t know… maybe? I- I don’t like to admit what I’ve done to support my brother. I’m not proud of the fact I became an escort, I not proud I allowed Vince to practically own me. Yet… that’s how my brother is still breathing and able to get the best care he can. I wish that wasn’t the truth but… I don’t know. Like I said, it’s very complicated.
Name a song that saved you during one of your darkest moments. Why did it resonate with you?
I’ve heard some stories on how certain songs save people’s… somehow help them realize the value of their lives or simply get them through the toughest moments of their lives. I wish I had that, I truly do but I don’t think so. I went through the hardest times of my life simply because I had to; never felt like I had any other choice. There’s a song though, I recently found it and I… kind of felt identified with it… I don’t know. It’s comforting somehow and I suppose somehow selfish to know that I’m not the only one to feel that way. Not that I ever did think I’m the only one… I don’t know.
Who are the top five hottest people that you've met in Utopia?
Oh, that’s difficult to answer, there’s a lot of good-looking people around. Bryce Wells is one attractive woman, plus she bakes I mean what a catch, I barely know her but I’m sold. Andrew Kwon who seems to be the life of the party, his sister is really pretty too; is it me or Asian’s look almost flawless? Uhmm, there’s a doctor I’ve seen at the hospital… something Nash. He’s not bad looking.
And then, I have to mention Cameron Clark. He is very attractive and he knows it which is amusing and annoying. He can be cocky and very sweet the next minute, it’s… He’s a very intriguing man which adds up to his appeal.
You live on the outskirts of society a good percentage of the time, and you have for a long time. How do you think that has impacted your morality over the long time? What do you think people on the inside often misunderstand?
I found morality can be very ambiguous because people, human beings aren’t solely black and white. I’ve found people who have done terrible things can also have moments where they’ve done unexplainable selfless good things. I found that role model citizens can do horrible gruesome and questionable things but they never get judged about them because of the sphere they live in. Money and social status changes everything. I’ve done things myself that I never thought I would do, things that perhaps If it weren’t for the desperation of keeping someone else alive I would’ve never done. Sometimes I wonder if I’m a good person or not but the thing is…. We can’t be just one thing or the other. We are both. The issue is when the negative outweighs the other side and other people suffer because of your decisions. We all have the power of change at any given second but sometimes it’s more complex than that because of situations around us… I don’t think you’ll get a clear answer from me. I’m just trying my best to keep my scale as balanced as possible.
What was the last thing that you texted?
Last thing I texted was one of the managers of the fitness center who is appointed to take care of things when I’m not around. Work related, really nothing truly exciting.
cameronclark-rp:
“Thank you,” the woman whispered as she held the ice to her cheek.
“You don’t need to thank me,” Cameron said, “Anyone would have…or should have, done the same thing.” Perhaps that wasn’t entirely true. In fact, Cameron typically turned a blind eye to most things, but he abhorred violence against women, accident or not.
“I’m sorry… for being rude earlier. I don’t handle it well when someone raises their voice at me,” the woman said softly. She shrugged her shoulders slightly, and Cameron felt guilt settle in the pit of his stomach. He knew he could be an asshole sometimes, but there really hadn’t been a reason to be so rude to the woman.
“No,” he said, shaking his head. “I apologize. It wasn’t very gentleman-like of me to raise my voice.”
Titling his head, he gave the woman a soft smile. Though her next question made the smile on his face grow a bit wider as a chuckle escaped his lips.
“I’m a defense attorney, so technically, if you were to press charges, I would refer you to someone else. Of course, I suppose I would be willing to switch to the other side, if you asked kindly.”
“Can I get you a drink? As a peace offering and a thank you?”
“I think perhaps I owe you a drink. If I hadn’t asked you to move forward, you might never have ended up in that situation. How about I let you buy the next one?”
Walking back to the bar side by side with the woman, Cameron waved the bartender over. “A Manhattan, please, and whatever she would like.”
Leaning against the bar, Cameron looked back toward the woman. “I’m Cameron Clark,” he said extending his hand. “You already know I’m an attorney, so I can’t really lead with that. And who might you be?”
“It wasn't very gentleman-like of me to raise my voice." The man said, Billie looked up into icy blue eyes searching for the truth. Having to deal with all sorts of people, the now entrepreneur had learned to read people’s face and find any traces that could give her a glance of someone’s true intention. However, as she looked into those prideful eyes, she could find a hint of guilt which added up with the tone of his voice; he was truly apologizing for his behavior.
“It really wasn’t.” She said softly taking a couple of second before offering a small smile, “But apology accepted. We all have our moments.” She said, smiling softly back at him for a second enjoying the sound that came out of his throat as he chuckled before he began answering her question.
"I'm a defense attorney, so technically, if you were to press charges, I would refer you to someone else. Of course, I suppose I would be willing to switch to the other side, if you asked kindly." He said which caused Billie to laugh a little bit as she shook he head.
“I think, I’m good. Let the stupid kids be stupid, it wasn’t a big deal and I think you already taught them a lesson.” She said nodding. The man followed up by insisting that he had to be the one to invite the drink since it was because of him she tried to push through the crowd and ended up getting slapped by the college boy. The brunette couldn’t help but narrow her eyes just slightly for a couple of seconds before finally following the man towards the bar, “What’s the catch?” She wondered in her mind as she watched him for a moment how he elegantly he waved his hand in the air to call the bartenders attention and then ordered a Manhattan; a classic and elegant drink that (in her experience) were ordered by a) people who were trying too hard to appear sophisticated or b) people who truly knew about spirits and wine. But which was he?
“I’ll have a negroni Sbagliato.” She said pronouncing it perfectly, one of things she got out of her ‘relationship’ with Vince was she learned a little of ibt of his birth language just because she didn’t like it when she was around him and heard him speak Italian to other people, she felt unsafe not knowing what was being said. The moment Cameron leaned against the bar so casually and effortlessly, he was a b type. So smooth it was probably in his nature.
He introduced himself extending his hand before he began to ask about her, the woman placed the bag of ice down on the bar and took his hand with the one that wasn’t icy cold, “Billie Taylor.” She said with a small grin, “Surely not an attorney. I don’t precisely like confrontation.” She said half joking and let out a small laugh as she shook his hand and then finally let go off of it.
“I’m making an assumption but It seems like you don’t particularly like crowded places, what brought you here?” She asked. She was curious there was no denying that, the two extremes of his personality which he had shown in the first ten minutes of knowing each other was enough to caught her attention; who was he? was he being nice to her only because he was expecting to get something out of it? Was he truly feeling remorse? She supposed she could find out.
