It was the first time that Mom had dressed me up. I came home from school and she shyly said, “Here, Sandy, try on this old dress of mine from when I was your age.” Then she put her red wig on me, put her lipstick on me, pulled me in front of a mirror and said, “Well, what do you think?”  I was entranced by my own image. I didn’t know if I could ever go back to being a boring old boy again…

2/28/26 - If only…. Indeed. I was always a boy longing. This lovely image could have so easily been me had I chosen the pink brick path.

I first posted this as Kim1girl in 2020 and only found this again two days ago. I am so glad I came across rufflesandlaceme! Such a lovely blog and sweet girl!

I smiled seeing that Sandy Brown then re-blogged this after me!

7/2/26 - It was always a delight when Sandy expanded on a simple post of mine, as she did in 2020.

Sandy was right. Once a boy like me sees herself in such a cute little dress, the boy will forever be gone.

I grew up on a farm, the youngest of five children. When the oldest was born a boy, my dad was happy because he would eventually be able to help with the heavy chores around the farm. Same with the next sibling, also a boy.  By the third, Mother was saying t was time for a girl, because she was entitled to some help was well. She was disappointed as child number three was a boy as well. Same with child number four. I was their last hope. When I was born a boy, mother was crestfallen.  Dad quietly said to her, ““Honey, you are entitled to a daughter.  You can raise Sandy as a girl, and no one needs to know.”  And that is how the youngest Brown son came to be raised as a girl.

7/2/26 - Sandy’s sweet vignette is one of my fondest fantasies. I can only wonder if this might have ever happened and no one knew.

Sure, it’s a fantasy, and my wish is that in this story Sandy grows up as a dainty daughter and a sweet Miss.

Now, will Sandy become a wonderful little farmer’s wife? Or will a nice girl discover Sandy’s secret and want Sandy as her bride?
