It’s time for Beginnings, the podcast where writer and performer Andy Beckerman talks to the comedians, writers, filmmakers and musicians he admires about their earliest creative experiences and the numerous ways in which a creative life can unfold.
Live from the 56-hour Del Close Marathon in New York City (June 29th, 2013)! And unlike other DCMs, I did not accidentally drink too much, vomit in a trash can at the party space and somehow end up at home sleeping on my bathroom floor. Instead, I got lots of sleep and had a super-fun time with improviser and actor extraordinaire Billy Merritt (The Swarm, The Stepfathers, The Smokes) and author and comedian DC Pierson (Derrick Comedy, Crap Kingdom). We chatted about room forts, touring America, the dangers of live radio, homemade computers, shrimp detectors, Who’s the Boss?, and Jewishing up your name. I defy anyone to find nicer, funnier people!
Also, for those interested, I spend about 8 minutes discussing the direction of the show in the epilogue. Maybe Beginnings will be a scripted nature show from now on. Or a how-to series about basket weaving. Or 60 minutes of people clipping fingernails. Listen to find out which of these options it is!
