“Okay, I won’t argue with that.” Skye grinned. She observed the desk with the samples of DNA, not understanding anything, of course. “Whose DNA is it?”

“Ohhh, no one you- er, we, know. Just a few people. Random people- I don’t know all of the details.” Mentally kicking herself for blabbering instead of acting casual, Jemma tried to look outwardly relaxed. Surely that would make Skye worry less, right? Spotting a potential way out, she started to unpackage the food. “Wow, I think that hunger is really starting to get to me. I can’t even speak properly!”

Steve couldn’t help but chuckle. “Yeah, I guess. I don’t know, though.” The technology surrounding him was incredibly advanced, even for the 21st century. He couldn’t help but be impressed. “Last time I was in a lab this big, things were a little chaotic.”

“Oh? What happened?” A beat passed before she grimaced, glancing down at the floor. “So sorry- that isn’t any of my business! I shouldn’t have asked, sorry.”

“It’s nothing, I had lunch at this diner earlier so I thought I should bring you something, be a little useful around here.” Skye smiled, putting the paper bag on the table. “What’re you working on?”

“You say that as if you aren’t a bloody incredible woman as it is. You’re useful, believe me,” she smiled, opening up the back with a smile and pulling out its contents. “Oh, its just a little side project i’m working on. DNA comparisons and the like.”

“You heard correctly, yes. How, er- what exactly is it that you need my help with?”

“Oh, no- don’t be sorry. I was just wandering around. I guess I don’t really have clearance to be in here, do I?”

“I can help you, actually. I’ve brought you lunch since you’ve been stuck here for, like, five hours now. You need a break.”

“Oh my- Skye, you really didn’t have to do that. You’re far too kind,” Jemma smiled, stepping away from her work. “But while you’re here...I suppose a slight break couldn’t hurt.”

“Oh, so sorry- I didn’t see you come in. Can I...help you?”

Backstory:

Born in Ashburton, Devon, England to two proud parents, Jemma was destined for brilliance, and it showed when she was only 17 years old with two PhD’s in biochemistry. She attended the S.H.I.E.L.D Academy of Science and Technology at the age of 20, and from there she met her soon to be best friend and partner in crime, Leopold Fitz, whom she got along with immediately. The two were inseparable, even when Phil Coulson pulled the two for a new team he had been putting together. He wanted them for the science crew, knowing their combined intelligence would benefit the team greatly.

She, and the team, went through a number of obstacles as HYDRA grew its strength within their ranks, and after an incident leaving Fitz with some brain damage, Jemma was assigned to go undercover at the HYDRA laboratories. Her cover was blown, however, as was the agent that saved her, Bobbi Morse. She was then reunited with the team, but her relationship with Fitz was strained due to his condition and her deciding not to tell him she had to leave for a mission in the first place. Jemma also helped uncover the Kree city in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and helped to plant bombs to destroy it, but with Skye’s new condition, she’s not sure where the team was going to go next.

Personality:

Jemma relies heavily on what’s fact and what isn’t, choosing to go with that instead of her gut instinct. She’s rational and typically calm when it comes to certain events, and she’s decent at deceit, which proved useful when she went undercover. Jemma’s also forgiving of her friends and those she loves, which can be a fault at times, and she’s affectionate as well. She’s loyal and self-sacrificing, and can be irritatingly optimistic, always looking for the best out of any situation.
