Aunt Frances is my Granny's second oldest sister. She was the one sister I didn't know as well as the rest because she lived away from everyone else. She was a social worker, an AKA, pink and green were her favorite colors, and she had a major sweet tooth. She absolutely loved candy and ice cream. She was also a sensitive soul. When we were little she would send us Birthday and Christmas cards with $5 in them. My mom and her siblings all have stories about visiting her, and how she would always have their favorite treats. Aunt Frances attended and graduated college at a time where that was uncommon for women, let alone black women. She dedicated her life to helping people. While I didn't get to spend as much time with her, I can see the joy she brought to our family. The stories told about her leave everyone smiling. It's a pretty dreary day here, but I love days like today. When I was in college I would always write down how many days of class we could miss, so I could take a day like this to myself. I would read, watch movies, knit or play video games while listening to the rain. It always felt like a deep breath. Today I'm preparing for tomorrow's update in between story time, impromptu dancing, and learning how to be a proper pirate fairy.
