How to be your own best friend
1. Treat yourself the way you would treat a person who you loved, valued, and cared about.
2. Always love yourself â no matter what!
3. Only say positive, compassionate, understanding and affirming things about, and to, yourself.
4. Hold your own hand in tough and stressful times. Donât abandon yourself, or let yourself down.
5. Respect yourself, and the efforts that youâre making to be a better person, and to change and to grow.
6. Understand your limitations, be patient with yourself. Accept that it takes time to master anything.
7. Be kind to yourself when you feel self-critical, or you want to be judgmental and hard on yourself.
âIf we only wanted to be happy it would be easy; but we want to be happier than other people, which is almost always difficult, since we think them happier than they are.â
â Montesquieu, PensĂ©es
People who like rocks see cool rocks everywhere. People who like birds see interesting birds everywhere. The tree on your yard could be an exceptional specimen. The world around you could be amazing and magical, but you arenât enough of a nerd to see it.
