"The reception out here sucks.” So much for radioing headquarters for his ride home.
"This place is off-limits." Oh, but it's not a problem at all. His horses were just starting to get hungry.
" Not my division. "
"This is exactly why the horses ate Liam."

"—....Do you have any idea how expensive fresh meat is these days?"
"--?"
" Considering he actually approached you, I only wondered. It’s not my business, " When it came to Ludwig, Ngoki made sure to draw a line in the dirt and never cross it. More so out of respect for the other man’s wishes, and even greater for his desire to not stand in the tamer’s way, " Regardless of the matter, why would you think he’d fair well in my hands? " Maybe Ludwig wished to watch him pull a trick of his? One where he liked to knock newcomers off the tight rope to a sure demise before pulling them back up with his props.
"Oh, that." So no new information after all... a shame. Ludwig merely shrugged, an indifferent expression quickly taking hold of his face. "It wasn't me he approached, just the animals. The fool was sniffing around so I called him out to teach him a lesson. As for you, we have no one else. Adelise is busy and I don't want such a reckless brat around-- he'd just get eaten. Besides, the newcomer is supposed to feel welcomed... isn't he?"
That trick would certainly be fun to see but it wasn't the tamer's main concern. All he really wanted was to take care of his beasts without anyone interfering, especially such a disrespectful kid.
Growls lowly.

While the dancer was a little more than sour over the other man’s treatment of those around him, he figured it was best to let it go. Sooner or later, people came around, even if they didn’t do it that fast. Besides, Ngoki didn’t know Ludwig /that/ well, so it wasn’t like he could make assumptions—especially when the tight rope specialist himself didn’t like when assumptions were made on his own person. " Me? Last I saw him, he seemed to take a liking to you, " That was only speculation on Ngoki’s part, " Are you sure you’re not suitable? Or would you rather not have him on your hands? "
"What?" For a moment he stared at the other incredulously, wondering he had perhaps heard it wrong. An amused snort followed suit. "A liking to me? Whatever gave you that idea?" As far as Ludwig could remember, the boy had been arrogant and bratty, at least in his presence. Perhaps the dancer had seen or heard something he hadn't-- whatever it was, it certainly made him curious.
An exasperated sigh left the tight rope dancer, having almost forgotten how direct this particular performer was. Still, he recomposed himself, brushing his hair back slightly, ” Nothing has been able to kill me yet, I’m so grateful you chose to come by and greet me, ” Ngoki replied, a slight twinge in his voice as he spoke.
They had never gotten along very well, but Ludwig's deeply rooted hatred for any human that had chosen for this particular circus life was mostly to blame for that-- it was truly nothing personal. At least not on the tamer's part. "So, are you going to be the one to take that kid off my hands? I'm sure you could teach him some discipline." Obviously he was referring to their last (and currently only) apprentice, the one that he had caught sneaking around his animals before.
" Do you need something? "
"I didn't believe it when they said you were still alive, so I came to verify it with my own eyes...--" What a disappointment relief to see the dancer was all right.
"Perhaps everyone did die..--" Good riddance.
