I’ve been thinking a lot ab this
🪷
The breakthrough is that we don’t need a story and a plan and an explanation, ever, because when we’re calm and aligned with the fact that we’re full of love and sensitive and generous and brilliant, the day unfolds as it should. All we have to do is show up and be honest and refuse to take the world’s angry noises personally. All we have to do is hold our ground and love ourselves. We don’t need to convince other people that we’re lovable and whole. We don’t need to persuade people that we’re broken and irredeemable. We don’t even need to speak.
We just need be wherever we are, without explanation, without shame. We need to embody what we’re feeling without apology. We need to take up space and challenge other people at times, sure, because a lot of people do not get it. But we also need to notice how much shame and anxiety are at play inside those people, and we need to respect that and be gentle with them. We also need to dare to appear disgusting or unlovable at times, so we can create whatever we want from the raw resources inside us. But we mostly need to show other people the mercy that we also deserve. We need to give the love and understanding that we crave. We need to witness the pain and longing around us. We need to remind ourselves, every single day:
You’re whole. You’re full of joy. You don’t have to pretend. You are not broken.
Once you believe that you’re whole, you treat bad moods like symptoms of something that comes from outside of you: Do you need more sleep? More water? More leafy greens? More exercise? You are a baby animal that requires attention and care. It’s not complicated. You don’t condemn yourself for feeling terrible. You make adjustments.
Once you’re truly kind and caring to yourself? Letting strangers be the arbiters of who you should be and how you should behave starts to look absurd. It’s certainly not sustainable. It’s the kind of warped navigational system that grows out of being coaxed into never trusting your own intuition, your own wild, savage imagination, your own body, your own heart.
So right now, your job is to learn how to love what you are and trust what you are without separating good and bad. The path is through feeling, not thought. Plant yourself inside your body and honor it. Be all of the things you are without judgment. Let rage be a thing that lives in your body with joy. Let sadness be a thing you feel along with apathy, along with anxiety, along with hope. The more you let these things simply exist in your body and treat them as natural flowering weeds, filling the space inside with creative energy and oxygen and rapacious love, the more you will understand that you ARE a survivor, you ARE lovable, and your body is pure and beautiful. When the right person touches you, you will feel all those flowering weeds come alive. You won’t have to say the right thing. You won’t have to pretend.

forgive me lord for I have imagined a life far more soft and tender than the one you created for me

I think this is my favorite poem.

i know it's over and it never really began but in my heart it was so real
you’re not alone in the universe. at the very least, you have libraries, flowers, strawberries, poetry, stars, and the moon.
don’t take my defeatism too seriously I will always begin again and again no matter what
I might sound miserable most of the time but at my core I’m a very hopeful person
oh to be loved without having fear of being replaced or to be chosen without being compared
