Happy Pride!
Every pride, you must reblog this. No exceptions
I love that four different people on my feed scheduled this joyous person to reblog by 8am on June 1. I look forward to seeing this a dozen more times today.
[video description: mark kanemura lip-syncing and dancing along carly rae jepsen’s cut to the feeling, the chorus just starting im the video. he is wearing nothing but rainbow briefs, a rainbow flag wrapped around his hips, and a rainbow scarf hanging from his neck, while on his head multiple bob-length, colored wigs are stacked, which he plucks off along to the beat and throws off-screen towards the camera. every wig is colored in the scheme of the pride rainbow; the final bob-length wig he dramatically removes with the scarf, revealing a longer wig underneath thats in a rainbow gradient. pulling out a fan and opening it with a snap, he fans himself, then throws that away too, then grabs the last wig and shakes confetti out of it on top of his head. he throws the wig at the camera, and the video ends /end description]
Lord of the rings
I present to you: this blessed group.
ARROW CAPACITY KILLED ME
fun fact about me is that when i was a kid id write capital E’s with as many of those little horizontal lines as possible and id call them ladder E’s and adults fucking hated them
artistic rendition
All capital letters should have a leveled-up form
So far I’ve got
ladder letters: A, E, F, H, T
humpback B’s and P’s get as many bumps as you think they need
circle O’s, you just keep spiraling in til you feel like you’ve made your point
tree letters branch into smaller versions of themselves ad nauseum: X, Y
spider Q’s, so many legs
Please add your own unsettling godtier capitals!
New alphabet dropped!
oh my god, it’s beautiful
(future handwritten notes are gonna be so wonderfully cursed now, thank you! :D )
well it’s going to take some getting used to, @ceekari (don’t mind the redacted letter between T and U)
But I think i’ve taken a real shine to it!

This stupid exchange between friends has become a cultural icon.
This text thread brought us into a new age
it's poor form to air your petty grievances with someone when it comes out they did something actually bad. save that for companies, like when you learn duolingo removed kanji from its beginner's japanese courses as part of their collab with crunchy roll
duolingo is shit for japanese imo*, here are some apps i reccommend:
Hey Japan - comes with a cute shiba inu bc fuck that aggressive owl. its basically duolingo made specifically for japanese and much better at teaching you HOW the language works.
Kanji Study - its the grey one, made by one person. it covers the first 80 kanji plus the main radicals that make kanji up, PLUS hiragana and katakana FOR FREE. you can practice by drawing, flash cards, multiple choice, and you can decide whether you read or select the romanji/character/meaning. i learned hiragana in 5 days using this. the upgraded version (one time payment) with higher level kanji goes on sale a few times a year, consider supporting the app if you find it useful
Todai - more advanced but good for reading comprehension. japanese news in... japanese. highlights which JLPT level words are and gives percentages of each level for each article. has inbuilt dictionary to check words you dont know.
Takoboto - my preferred japanese dictionary but there are loads out there. i like it bc i can search in english, romanji, kana, or kanji and it breaks down kanji compounds into individual characters. it also shows different conjugations eg: to eat, eating, ate, to be able to eat, etc
those are just the phone apps i use, there are so many other resources out there that are free and not pulling bullshit like skipping one of the 3 'alphabets' of a language
*to be clear the reason i think duolingo is shit for japanese is that it doesnt follow the JLPT pathway. which... you dont NEED exactly, but i think the country that had to make a new, easier language profiency test bc not enough people were passing the existing one will know how to build courses that teach their language. plus duolingo is doing *gestures* whatever shit that is up top.
if you seriously want to learn japanese, memorise your kana (drop romanji asap or youll forever struggle and I'll come to kick your shins) and find the ebook of genki 1 that someone uploaded, or some other JLPT N5 course. but NOT duolingo.
Edit: just realised that duolingo may be your only real option if your first language isnt english (too easy for me to forget, sorry). in that case, make sure you supplement duolingo with your own kanji study!!!
Link to all the Genki exercises that let’s you do them in different ways (writing, matchups, multiple choice etc)
Are fedoras really that bad?

I’d laugh, but if I earn £1 over £139, I lose my entire Carers Allowance for the week, and get fined an additional £50, even if it’s because of a really stupid reason such as “I didn’t realise I was entitled to holiday pay when I swapped that shift” (because carers don’t get holiday pay) or “I also didn’t realise I got time and a half for that bank holiday” (guess what else carers don’t get) so I find it increasingly difficult to smile and laugh and joke about it when yet another fucking Tory gets away with blatant theft and no consequences.
Anyway, it’s local elections day. Grab your it’s-totally-not-voter-suppression photo ID and vote out your local bastard Tory!
No, I'm reblogging this one too.
The damage the Tories have done to this country is nauseating. They've implemented change that has thrown people already in desperate circumstances even further under the bus.
Old women riding the bus all day because they can't heat their homes, people in full time employment still having to use food banks, the sinister gutting of the NHS, the vile, violent racism which is just part of the Tory party.
These people were complaining about the cost of heating their fucking stables.
The process for claiming disability benefits is SO humiliating and arduous and heartless that people have committed suicide because of it.
If you read this and thought 'aw, she's a cheeky little girl bossing imp' and not 'Tories consider £1200 nothing but refuse to pay up anyway' idk what the fuck is wrong with you.
This isn't cute. She, and the whole Tory party, have blood on their hands and they do. Not. Give. A. Fuck.
I love that he apparently got the job because he looked so pathetic that children truly believed he would be unable to solve puzzles created by a cartoon dog without their assistance.
There's no one's wisdom that's less valuable than this
What source of passive income allows him to just print money like this?
An ‘unlimited’ annual pass with free parking is $1600/year (up from $1400 when he completed his record 2012-2020). And yeah, that’s over $116 a month and not how I’d spend my money but it’s not obscene.
Plus, he’s an older dude with free time every day. DL is a safe venue to walk around and kill time if all you have is time to kill, and from the article it seems he’s built quite the social network of Disney regulars & cast members. So good for him.
The Disney corporation hates people like him, btw.
Disney considers AP holders parasites, clogging the parks, taking up space that could be better utilized by Big Spending out-of-town visitors. Which is why the price for an AP has gone up so dramatically ALONG WITH a zillion new restrictions like blackout days + reservation requirements.
Up until 2013 or so it was common for local families to buy their kids Annual Passes then drop them off at the park every day during summer as cheap childcare. Seriously, $100/month is a bargain.
thats just the admission and parking though, the park tends to be pretty strict on how much food and drink you can bring in and none of the options inside are cheap, even with the like 10% discount before tax and tips the annual pass holder gets.
You’re absolutely right!
But AP holders usually don’t buy food & drink inside the parks... unless you’re DisneyFoodBlog or Jenny Nicholson. Another reason Disney hates on passholders.
Most AP holders hit one of the kazillion affordable restaurants outside the park on their way in or out, then carry a water bottle once inside to stay hydrated. And most visits aren’t the all-day-long thing out of towners do; AP folk will kill an hour or two, ride Indiana Jones or the Matterhorn then leave.
The guy in the article appears to have visited once a day just to walk a lap or two for exercise. He wasn’t staying all day, dealing with hotel room reservations, rental car, airline tickets, souvenirs, or any of the expenses a tourist would have.
The real insanity is how the US is so lacking in safe public third places that for some people, an annual pass to Disney is their best shot at having a walkable outdoor space and some semblance of community.
based on a true story
I don’t think Fortnite is to blame for kids nowadays not reading…
That’s the joke. It’s the authoritarian overbearing parent.
He was being sarcastic lol
Reminded me of these
That violin one hit close to home.
I remember doing homework once, asked my grandmother if she was proud of me. “Do some thing for me to be proud of.” That hurt.
That comic up there – I witnessed almost that exact scenario. Teacher wanted the kids to all pick books. One kid spots something on the shelf and gets visibly excited. Pulls it out and starts reading. Teacher sees it, snatches it off him and tells him that this is a book for 8 year olds (the kid was 15ish) and tells him to get a book more appropriate for his age. Kid slouches around the shelves for about 10 minutes, finally picks up a book at random and sits in his chair tucking the edges of each page into the binding to make that looped-page look. He didn’t read a word. He sat there and did this to his book for the remainder of the reading session:
He had been genuinely excited about the 8 year old book he’d picked up. It was a new one in a series he used to read as a younger kid. He’d been actively sitting and reading, and then he was embarrassed in front of his classmates, told off for reading a kids book, and voila. He lost all enthusiasm for reading anything else that day.
What’s worse? That kid had been hit by a car like a year and a half earlier. Severe brain trauma. Had to re-learn a lot of basic things, like how to speak and how to read.
An 8 year old book would have been perfect for him. Easy enough to read that it would have helped rebuild his confidence in his own reading ability. A book meant for 15/16 years olds? A lot harder to read than a book for 8 year olds. Especially if you’re recovering from a relatively recent brain injury.
And yeah, the teacher knew all about his brain injury, and the recovery. He just seemed go be of the opinion that the kid was 15, so he should be reading books for 15 year olds, irrespective of brain injury.
Reading this thread I’m reminded of Daniel Pennae’s The Rights of the Reader, which can be found in a lot of bookshops and school libraries:
The child speaking at the bottom in Quentin Blake’s distinctive spiky handwriting is saying ‘10 rights, 1 warning: Don’t make fun of people who don’t read - or they never will’
OKAY LISTEN
This thread is fucking depressing so I wanted to add an example of what can happen when the RIGHT approach is taken.
My best friend is a school librarian. But for a few years, she taught 7th and 8th grade. This was right around 2010.
She assigned a book report. You could do any book you wanted, but she had to approve your choice.
Some girl chose Twilight.
Alicia called me and said “I don’t know what to do. Her other teachers said it was a miracle she picked a book at all. She won’t even read two paragraphs for homework. But…it’s TWILIGHT.” Which, yes, Alicia had read, because it was popular with her students and she felt like she had to keep abreast of their likes and dislikes to be effective. (For those who weren’t around for this, or don’t remember: a lot of schools and teachers were banning Twilight more or less on the basis of finding it trashy.)
I said: “tell her yes. But tell her that if she wants to read Twilight, there are some questions you want her to keep in mind while she reads.” And advised her to tailor those questions around things that bothered her about the books (for example, Edward’s stalking of Bella).
She did.
A few weeks later she called me again.
The girl decided to read the whole series, got halfway through Breaking Dawn, took her the book, and said “Mrs. [name], I just don’t LIKE any of these people.” Normally, Alicia would’ve recommended Harry Potter, but again: these were the only books the girl had been known to pick up in YEARS, and the final Potter book was just barely three years old. If she’d wanted to read it, she already would have. Alicia’s preferred genre is one I call Tudor-lite (Jane Austen, Philippa Gregory, that stuff), and she was pretty sure the stuff she was really into wouldn’t pass muster with her student.
I was still living in the same area as Alicia at the time, so I told her to ask the girl what she HAD liked about Twilight, give me the answers, and my creepy-loving ass would make a recommendation and give her a book. Based on her answers, I gave her my copy of ‘Salem’s Lot and told her to tell the girl she could keep it as long as she liked.
I NEVER GOT IT BACK.
This girl went from ‘Salem’s Lot to Dracula. And from Dracula to Frankenstein. And from Frankenstein into the wider world of gothic literature. By the end of the school year she’d plowed through almost fifty books—which meant ALMOST THREE PER WEEK.
All it took was being told “sure, you can like Twilight” and then “it’s okay, you don’t have to like Twilight.”
A little sun, a little rain, a little love—that’s all it takes to make a flower grow.
(And sometimes, a copy of a book you will have to accept it was time to lose, because it will bear more fruit in different soil.)
this video sends me every time. the lip syncing. the source material. iconic

like, i’m pretty sure tiktok has existed for longer than vine did at this point but i’m yet to actually see an “iconic” tiktok. like people always caption like “this tiktok is ICONIC” but i’ve never seen one stay in the public consciousness for any longer than the 2 minutes it appears on my timeline. i never see people quote tiktoks or like, act them out with their friends or anything, not a single tiktok i’ve seen has had any actual staying power
meanwhile i can just say like “ROAD work ahead?” and i would bet a good chunk of you have just read that in the guy’s voice. i still see people tag things like “i wish i was jared, 19″. one night at the bar where i work we started an impromptu dance party purely by saying “hi, i’m renata bliss, and i’ll be your freestyle dance teacher”
i guess brevity really is the soul of wit
everyone calling me a boomer for this take has confirmed for me that people literally don’t know what boomer means
