the hedgehog hesitates. this vulnerability, this … feeling … it shook him. it was all so different to everything he was used to. it had once seemed as though the world had been determined to rip everything good away from him. but jericho was here. jericho was here and he wasn’t going anywhere.

chest aching, shadow takes a breath, gloved hand taking jericho’s in his own. a small smile tugs at the corner of his mouth, an unexpected pleasant warmth spreading across his face.

shadow does NOT like to be touched. at all. even if it's a positive / harmless interaction, it subconsciously reminds him of his time with the scientists on the ark. he is not necessarily aware of this. his body will stiffen up, sometimes completely, and he reacts with anger by default. it takes a long time for shadow to be comfortable enough with someone to allow them to touch him without his body reacting in such a way. the only exception to this was maria.
