with what we know about shin in the manga, youâd expect him to have a voice like takemichiâs or something but nope!!! in the anime they made it like that!!!! for what!!!!! i mean itâs not that deep but itâs not high pitched either, itâs cool and it fits his reputation
Even though they're talking about how Takemichi relates to Shinichiro here, I actually think Emma relates a lot to what we know of Shinichiro too. Shinichiro was known as a crybaby and even though we don't see him often I feel like he was around for this he would be crying too.
Actually this just makes me think of Emma and Shinichiro crying over a movie or something while Mikey sits stoic faced in the middle.
to anyone whoâs worried mikey might go to jail for life
heâs still below 20 so heâll probably be sentenced but not as bad as we think.. reminds me of this one horrible case in japan that happened irl where the sentencing was too light for a disgusting inhumane crime just bc the culprits were minorsâŚ
the best tr ending for me would be mikey serving some time and then living a peaceful life after. i have a feeling they wonât give me that thođĽ˛
i mean yea it can be suspicious how everyone has nothing bad to say about shinichiro but then again if you see it from the pov that heâs the MC of a tr prequel, it wouldnât be that weird? just imagine if thereâs a tr sequel and everyone praises takemichi, we wouldnât be suspicious of it. i know we didnât get to follow shinâs journey but iâd like to think that maybe ken wakui is saving it and will give us a prequel or a special about him someday. look at this panel tho
i still think itâs really interesting how waka and benkei were enemies at first. that + how the panel is drawn really shows how amazing shinichiro was and of course someone like that would have such a good reputation. ig this can also be a sign that takemichi can do things as great as shin did, things that may seem impossible like this final war.
i like daydreaming about how the manga could end (as one does) and one of my fave fandom wide âideasâ is the one that has takemitchy talking to shinichiro directly (somehow someway) and im likeâŚ.always thinking about that. because i think itâd be perfect if the first time we ever get anything directly from shinichiro is from him speaking to takemitchy. and itâs sooooo far fetched and sooooooo unlikely because the logistics are too difficult to figure outâŚ.but i like thinking about it anyway :3 and i think itâd be really neat if the WAY he gets to talk to him is because he ends up getting âhitâ by a train again. i think itâd be really cool if wakui ends the manga the same way he started it: w takemitchy in That specific life or death situationâŚ.except now heâs able to directly speak w the source of it all, the ghost of the entire story. and i think if we get to fill in the blanks from shinichiro directly, itâll be so beyond satisfying.
i know everyone is like how is âtakemichi gonna win this!!!â but I just looove that throughout all of the arcs, mikey has been the one to come and save them and this time theyâre doing this with a shared goal to save mikey by defeating him⌠idk itâs just satisfying to think about. which is why iâm manifesting sanzu and mikey surviving even tho everyone says they have the biggest death flags. i really donât want them to die. i want them to get the help they deserve, find the peace they deserve. honestly tho, i also wouldnât mind if wakui does the final timeleap everyone is alive thing bc that would mean izana has another chance to find his peace too
another thing thatâs unrelated but imo if takemichi had a training arc before this it wouldâve ruined his character.. he has no time for it anyway. everyoneâs being negative about this arc but i feel like everythingâs coming together nicely
â ď¸This is my personal opinion and do not intend to hate the person mentioned!!I do hope the author apologizes for the harm they have caused in the Tokyo Revengers Community bc many people have been stating how bad it made them feel!â ď¸
i just read the âtheoryâ that everyone has been talking about.
i am honestly extremely fucking upset
that is the worst take i have ever fucking seen it shouldâve stayed in the drafts, and i am so incredibly sorry towards everyone who read the theory, especially sa/grooming victims bc it made me sick to my stomach reading about a character that i adore and seeing that people believe he would do such things.
I really hope everyone that fucking believes any of that and thought it makes sense reflects a little on their thoughts!
i also hope that the author reflects on what they have said and take the post down themselves.
I know some people might say that this is overreacting but i need you to understand that people with mental illnesses can be seriously harmed thru these type of things and can actually project these things as to be something real!!!
Nah cuz I donât understand,,, u can disagree w the theory but I donât think anyone who has experience w SA would read it, the author gave like a million trigger warnings at the start and throughout the whole thing
nope not really. some people can still read it plus human minds will always be curious. itâs not fair to the victims if youâre saying they shouldnât read it at all if they wanted to. iâve seen many of them say that itâs harmful to them because of how misguided it was interpreted in the theory. also real people with real issues similar to mikey, itâs not cool with how OP potrayed it. the theory has blown up now and itâs irresponsible for OP to still spread misinformation like this.
Debunking the âShinichiro is a bad personâ theory
Hi, me again, promise itâs the last time, but I feel like my last post only addressed one part of the latest theory and I wanted to really debunk the most harmful part of the theory. Iâll try to make it as simple as possible to spare you from reading paragraphs, but I must be thorough~
Note: I felt inclined to do as that post has reached the thousand mark and people seem to have forgotten what TR has shown them all this time~
TW: CA/SA/Abuse
To make it easier, letâs just match what has been assumed/theorized with what is actually the âtruthâ (in parentheses bc Tokyo Revengers is not completed and there could still be some more revelations on the way)
âŚpls let me come sit in the safe space of logical thoughts omg what was that postâŚ
im so sorry for how long this is about to be but i, unfortunately, let it get to me and it has weighed me down all day lol girl i am genuinely just so.....-_- DISCLAIMER: please don't go telling the op someone is talking shit lol im not im just trying to express what i think/what i felt. (tw: tokyo revengers spoilers, mental health, assault, opinions)
anyway i tried reading through it and giving it the benefit of the doubt but it was so triggering and through it all, i still don't understand why op even came to that conclusion. if you SEEK to intentionally look for and find a specific trope/theme in media/literature, you can argue and push for it, and i think that's what is happening here. like if you WANT someone to be the bad guy, you can find the right panels/phrases and word it the right way to make it so that that specific someone actually becomes the bad guy. (we literally just saw this happening w sanzu. how many people were dragging his name through the mud only to turn around and be like "oops!") and of course, you can say the same about the opposing side (pushing for the good etc), i get that entirely. theories are fine but Jesus. sometimes it's genuinely like Where did you GET that? im looking at your "proof" and im still confused...i think what disturbed me the most was that soooo many beautiful/endearing interactions were twisted to fit what they were trying to say...and the fact so many people considered it a refreshing take and something they would want to happen is also concerning to me. he can be a grey character/a ghost without being all of that... why do you want him to be that? again, i don't care for directly speaking w the op it isn't something i'm interested in and i am not picking a fight lol but it genuinely seems like they just don't like him, and so they spun a web that wove him into the worst possible thing and people are eating it up. (also they seemed to be pro takeomi to an extent....LOL yeah...ok sure.....that's not right either. go reread and analyze how messed up he is too. he really is sooo lucky he's not a physical fighter, the manipulator/gaslighting parts of him go unnoticed because of it)... anyway....i don't remember all of what they said off the top of my head and i don't care to either, but there were so many things that made me go "you could've brought something else into this to give the full picture. so why didn't you?"
i personally disliked so many things about that theory but i think what stood out to me the most was the approach to mental health/trauma. i wonder why shin's own trauma/history just wasn't even taken into consideration or why mikey's was....discussed in that way? i think it's okay to discuss the mental health/disorders of some characters but we need to be so careful with how we talk about it given we aren't experts at all and there are REAL people with these disorders. the op did a good job addressing that at the beginning but something about how they discussed "mikey not being the real manjiro" didn't sit right w me at all, it felt strange. and i don't think that was their intention! but nonetheless...it did not feel like how one should probably go about discussing something like that. and i do not want to come off as hypocritical given im not an expert whatsoever myself but i have said time and time again that it just feels like manjiro presents such clear signs of borderline personality disorder. i do think he struggles w himself being fully present/aware vs not and i think he self-diagnosed them as "dark impulses" because he was a child with no access to the mental care he needed. w/ that being said, i think people are under the impression that DID is the only disorder that causes disassociation. (AGAIN: i am not an expert and i am doing all i can to speak about this as appropriately as possible. please don't hesitate to reach out to me and let me know if i worded something incorrectly or in a harmful way) but literally just a quick google search about the disorder will redirect you to the appropriate pages that elaborate on it. i do not want to paraphrase anything so i'll put some screenshots directly from the MAYO clinic about it:
w/ that being said, a part of BPD that isn't often given a name by the public is "Splitting", which is very common in individuals w borderline-personality disorder. this article (linked) is really good and is written by a medical professional/reviewed by a board. i'll post some screenshots as well.
i think it's important to note that while the op chose to focus on manjiro's disorder developing from (TW) sexual trauma, i think it is also extremely important to address (as mentioned above) that that is NOT always the case at ALL. i don't know if the op was trying to talk about it from a BPD pov, admittedly i couldn't completely finish it, but for the sake of what i'm trying to say, i think we need to address the family history/negative experiences part of it. and by negative experiences, i want to highlight the part that states "many people diagnosed with BPD experienced...neglect or were separated from their caregivers at an early ageâ. we KNOW manjiro's mother passed away. this is CANON. we know this. we also know (CANONICALLY) that he is attached to a blanket, which emma claims he has dragged around with him his since he was little. my favorite part about those panels was that wakui visibly and intentionally made mikey look SO much younger. as if he was still a child, still holding on to what he has lost. this study (linked) conducted by two doctors presents something that could be used in this argument:
this is what i have always just subconsciously attributed as part of manjiro's mood swings and emotional turmoil. i think people underestimate just how much losing your parents, ESPECIALLY your mother, during really important developmental stages in life, can be detrimental. and with this, i tie it back to shinichiro. he lost his parents too. it is unfair to ignore that, to ignore that he would've only been around ten when he lost his mother. he was a child that had that snatched away from him as well, and had the responsibility of caring for and raising two children thrust into his hands at such a young age. this kind of brings me to a thought i've been entertaining (and mentioned recently actually) about the two brothers. i would not be surprised whatsoever if shinichiro also had some sort of borderline personality disorder without being aware. there is not much to back me up on this other than wakui's decision to give him and manjiro the same eyes/same initial design w the only difference being the hair color. however, when i do entertain this thought, i think of him as being the opposite of manjiro. where mikey can not control himself (understandably so. again, he doesnât have any medication or access to the mental care he needs!), i wonder if shinichiro had somewhat been able to hide or conceal that side of himself from others. the part of shinichiro that we don't know, the part that is hidden from us, could very well have also suffered from the very things mikey is going through, but hidden it from those around him, which is why WE as the readers, feel like something is missing, like his own friends and family didn't entirely know him either. he might not have known himself and it might have scared him enough to do what he could to hide it. i donât think he wanted to let anyone down.
i focused so much on the mental health side of the argument but off the top of my head if i were to argue w any of the other claims that stood out to me, i would say....1) trying to make shin as a creep for simply being in chapter 241 is strange and doesn't prove anything. myself and many others took it as wakui's way of showing how strict takeomi was w his siblings vs how lax shinichiro was w his own siblings respectively. i also took it as just two family friends hanging out w their siblings, and to highlight that the airplane might have been IMPORTANT to mikey BECAUSE it was made by shinichiro, not because it was just a stupid toy. i don't think mikey is truly materialistic at heart, i think i talked about that when 241 came out too but anyway... 2) i think manjiro arriving at the crime scene when he did is totally possible. literally nowhere is it mentioned that they live on the outskirts of anywhere lol. shin's shop could be surrounded by other shops and still be relatively close to home. mikey could very well have heard the alarms and the sirens and gone out to see what was going on. we know he's ridiculously fast, this is also canon. and we know he knows where his brother's shop is. im sure it would've been like second nature for him to run over there. (also we've seen several drawings of the kids walking home w him, of both emma and mikey hanging out w him at what seems to be his shop....he can't have two kids riding w him on a motorocycle. and i don't think he'd make them walk a long distance. i don't think the shop is that far from the sano residence. i just don't) 3) mikey is under no obligation to discuss his trauma w anyone if he doesn't want to lol, no matter how close they are to him. trying to argue that "it's weird that he doesn't want to talk about his brother or share stories" is strange to me. he doesn't have to. if they are personal memories, then they are his alone and he might treasure them as such. 4) black dragon were like Kings at some point, especially at the height of shin's leadership (canon). it is VERY normal for kids to hear about them and idolize them, become attached to them, and i do not think shinichiro would be one to just turn them away rudely. if anything, he might be concerned about them going down the bad path of delinquency and try to be the kinder, gentler person in their life, which is why i never thought anything weird of inupi knowing him. (inupi also knows wakasa, which implies he also hung around the shop enough to know the kid) 5) trying to insinuate haruchiyo was OKAY with his face being mutilated by mikey is so messed up i won't even get into that. he was like nine years old. come on lol seriously? i hated that so much. 6) i've literally talked about this time and time again but shinichiro choosing to not introduce mikey and izana is not all that weird. if shin was able to tell early on that izana was slightly obsessive/unstable, he might've thought it risky to do so without getting a feel for how izana might feel about it. when he mentions mikey to him for the first time, and likewise when he asks mikey how he'd feel about having another older brother, i think that WAS his attempt at trying to get a feel for the situation, at trying to put it all together. also i'm fairly certain izana mentions that he was in reform school/juvie for nearly ten years. sending letters to the one family you think you have is not weird. he is just lonely, extremely lonely. if shin is in his late teens/early 20's by then, hiding letters also isn't hard lol please stop trying to act like we don't easily hide stuff we don't want others to see too. (and i think he hid them to not upset mikey. i think anyone would be hurt if someone dismissed them like izana did to him). i think shinichiro might've thought at some point that they WERE related and eventually found out they weren't, but didn't think it would be important enough to let izana know because he still viewed him as family. and from the expression on his face when izana punched him, i think he regrets handling the situation like that.
anyway that's all i have left in me. i can't think of anything else i want to really talk about, i'll probably mention it later on if i do. it seems like that post genuinely affected a lot of people emotionally too, and given that there are so many young and impressionable people in the fandom, i hope they know none of that was canon and that you do not have to hate him whatsoever. AGAIN: the op is not required to coddle anyone, is an adult that put thought into their theory, and placed the appropriate trigger warnings! they are more than allowed to express themselves. but that also means we are more than allowed to disagree and state our distaste for it. you do NOT have to feel guilty about liking him are you kidding me you absolutely can keep loving him! and i hate that people are genuinely thinking otherwise!! that theory is not canon. until wakui puts pen to paper himself, you can ignore it. shinichiro is admittedly one of my favorite characters and my own bias might shine through this, so take what you will from this post.
i absolutely agree that we know next to nothing about him and that he's a mystery in and of itself, just like his little brother is. but i love that about them both. shinichiro lurks because he is the ghost of tokyo revengers and it is metaphorical and symbolic. there are so many things that would not make sense and would lose their importance if...whatever. (i've made a super brief post about shin/manjiro and the yin/yang relationship/symbolism they seem to have here which might give more insight into how i feel about them). feel free to disagree w me entirely! and feel free to support the op's theory! (however, if you do, i ask that you don't interact w me) please be respectful.
shinichiro throughout the series has been painted positively by everyone and itâs normal to be suspicious but to accuse him of something as serious as that while reading too much into the dialogues when you know yourself that translations aren't reliable? and that the some dialogues aren't that deep in japanese? anyway im gonna debunk some stuffs because as a shinichiro stan i know his character a little more
⢠Mikey and manjiro
Mikey created that name for himself because he wanted emma to feel welcome. In a country like japan where youâre supposed to blend in, I promise you it can feel very uncomfortable when youâre the odd one out. Before he knew it, it became his whole image, âthe invisible mikeyâ. I think itâs similar to Senju where she had something like a stage name. In his little world of delinquency well of course heâd want to keep that cool name. This brings me to my next point
it seems like the kawata twins werenât that close with mikey. honestly? idk if mikey even wants to own a restaurant at all. i know draken was the closest person to mikey (maybe same as baji) but i feel like draken himself didnât know exactly what manjiro, the real person behind all that image, wanted and what exactly were his dreams. sure, draken probably just came up with some random lie on the spot but i found it interesting that he didnât say anything similar to mikey owning a motorcycle shop or working something related to motorcycles. Then again, itâs possible that mikey does want to own a restaurant and he told draken at some point. Maybe when all of this is over heâll own one in the future. Iâm just bringing up the possibility that mikey never revealed much about himself and that no one knew manjiro which is why when takemichi called out his real name, it meant so much to him.
⢠Trauma
Mental illness doesnât have to stem from trauma. Mikey couldâve been born that way and thatâs NOT his fault at all. If it did come from trauma, Iâm 100% sure shin didnât cause it. We know his parents died shortly after mikey was born so the chances of them directly causing it are low. But what about shinâs trauma? he was around 10 when his mother died and he had to see his dad get married w another woman not long after that. Wakui have said that his dad is a mischievous man and I think he was surrounded by women a lot. We donât even know if his parents had a happy marriage. This connects to the next point
⢠Izana and Mikey
shin definitely suffered from not having a whole family and from that, he wanted to unite his siblings badly. trauma can push people to want positive things, it doesnât always have to be negative. itâs possible that he also thought izana was related to him by blood and only found out later. regardless, he knew izana was connected to his family and maybe he thought he wanted to fix his dadâs problems.
⢠Bad Influence
why do delinquents join gangs in the first place? I saw this one documentary about bosozoku gangs and it seems like they took a lot of pride in it. shinichiro didnât have a strong parental influence growing up, and from what we know about his character, he hates endeavor. he also likes to fight. i guess being in gangs gave him a place to be free from responsibilities (you know? the one that was thrown at him at such a young age where he had to raise his siblings?) it was like his safe place. it makes sense that he would want to share that with both izana and mikey. also his influences on gangs have been positive for generations, he didnât like picking fights with people weaker than him so itâs not like he influenced mikey and izana to bully people.
he said that with sincerity in his eyes and wakui couldâve drawn him in a different light.
⢠haunting⌠your screen?
dude was literally just in his house hanging out with his friend where his friend brought his siblings over for a playdate. what else couldâve he said in this chapter? You want to see him talk about motorcycles or something??
do i have to remind you that we donât know what happened after the incident with sanzu? We can't say anything more about this incident because we don't know!!!!! It will be revealed either in the side stories or the main manga but I know for sure shin didn't encourage that behaviour. why would takeomi still want to be friends with shin if that was the case?
if you read a lot of mangas, that panel on the right could imply that there was some time interval. also you can see the living room in that second panel. takeomi and shin couldâve went somewhere else to smoke or something idk they had their own lives.
⢠Takeomi and takemichi
bruh this is a whole new level of reach. manjiro was just using honorifics
sanzu using quotations: bonten was HUGE. definitely feared among other criminals. quotations were probably used as a way to emphasize how feared mikeyâs name is. itâs not like the criminals who were about to be killed knew who mikey is. you know itâs like how in mangas where they refer to someone as âthe kingâ or something like that.
emma herself said that mikey never listens to her. mikey probably just shrugged it off and didnât care enough to think too much on it. mikey was young anyway, emma probably couldâve told him in a vague way like âI had a brother but he was sent awayâ
Why would it be stated that shin is one of the people who held his impulses back if he was the one to cause it? that would be shit writing if they suddenly switch up on it
Izana and shinichiro. Izana told shinichiro directly that he didnât like manjiro. Shinichiro knew he needed time to bring his siblings together. When he asked mikey about having another brother, it seems like he was happy that at least mikey was willing to accept it. but it still wasnât enough for him to put them in the same room together. shin needed TIME. but it was too late because izana found out they werenât related and felt betrayed. you still think it wouldâve been good for shinichiro to force them in the same room??? I have this feeling that if he hadnât died that night, he wouldâve still tried his best to reconcile with izana and finally bring them together, maybe when mikey was older. We donât even know if grandpa sano knew about Izana. Itâs possible he didnât want to accept Izana, since heâs not blood related to grandpa sano at all. Emma at least had half of the sano blood.
SHINICHIRO DID NOT ISOLATE IZANA ON PURPOSE. He couldâve handled the izana situation better I know that and he messed up by not telling izana sooner but it was most definitely not on purpose. I mean not having a parental figure? how would he know to handle the situation perfectly.
shinichiro was probably not a prodigy or genius like kisaki. how would he do that. kisaki only became a gang member because of a girl. if shin was such a genius why would he join gangs. also we wouldâve seen mikey mention it. why would he be smart about evil stuffs and not his studies thatâs so weird
His harmless joke to emma in chapter 123 was just to lighten the mood up and show that he was THAT confident in himself. Mikey said the same thing to imitate shin, it was supposed to be wholesome. âI wanna make her smileâ was just to show that mikey has a human side and that he wanted to help make emma smile too not because of some other sick reasons. no it wont come back to haunt you.
if kazutora knew about shin, why didnât he ever mention about it to takemichi in any of the timelines? itâs important info???
draken didnât have suspicions about shin at all. he admired him like everyone else. my guy has street smarts you canât deny this, he wouldâve suspected something weird but instead right until shin lying on his grave, all the impressions he had about him were positive
There's more I can debunk but I'm tired. AGAIN Im aware that shin might be different from what weâve seen. but accusing him of something so terrible? worse than taiju? thatâs insane. your last note saying you hate shin made it clear that you just wanted to paint him in the worst way possible using small crumbs
Lastly, if there are errors, sorry english isn't my first language (but also not really) and I probably could've worded most of it better but you get my point
