Vile it is! Vile I tell you!
Library in Chantilly, castle near Paris, France by Babette S.
No, you don’t understand… I need to read every single book ever written
The morning creeps in cold through leaded glass,
while rain sits heavy on the mossy stone.
I let the loud demanding hours pass,
and claim this quiet hour for my own.
No grand ambition drives the muted air,
no phantom shadows hunt me through the room…
Just black ground coffee steeping in the porcelain bare,
a bitter warmth against the velvet gloom.
A faded spine lies open on the wood,
where ink and parchment keep the world at bay.
I find a stillness where the noise once stood,
and watch the grey fog drift across the day.
The small, simple moments hold a secret grace…
the smell of dried clove and the kettle's low steady hum,
it’s a peaceful sanctuary this darkened space,
where contentment enters when the mind grows numb.
Let others chase the blinding distant sun,
I seek no glory in the world outside…
just this small hearth when the day's work is done,
where quiet pleasures and my soul abide.

“Holy places are dark places. Holy wisdom is not clear and thin like water, but thick and dark like blood.”
— C. S. Lewis, from ‘Till We Have Facea: A Myth Retold’
I am so easily impressed by kindness
Some paths never stop remembering the people who walked them.
