Blackheart Honeymoon- MOUNTAINS SPEAK (SELF RELEASED)
Oh sure you might think these guys look like a buncha regular ‘ol hicks from the south, but you think too much (like me). They hail from Seattle and lemme tell you, they add a healthy dose of catchy, pop hooks to their own brand of Americana and right now it’s is sitting real well with me. Let me go a step further, I’m really liking it! Ian (Prebo- vocals and acoustic guitar) and Wesley (Amundson – upright bass) have know each other since they were kids. They added a few other guys to the band who up and quit on ‘em so they had to find other members (eh, plenty of musicians in Seattle). In came guitarist Steve Andrea, keyboardist Adrienne Marie and a drummer named Dusty and voila! Blackheart Honeymoon was born. They seem to me to be as influenced by the New Pornographers as they are, say Johnny Cash and cuts like the title track, “Bodies,” “Can’t and Won’t and the “Particles” are all ace examples of how good it can be when a band really takes it time and write good songs (unless these guys didn’t work all that hard and just have it, yeah, it). Regardless, Mountains Speak is a real easy, pleasant listen that will be getting many more spins around my household. www.blackhearthoneymoon.com
