"Enchanted" for Tree of Life
I ♡ Trees
Gypsetters for Tree of Life
I shot this Gypsetters campaign for Tree of Life with Sarah Tobi on a beautiful weekend recently, using Williamsburg as our location. The poster's on display in store windows all over Australia now, ringing in the resort season... Check out the lookbook images, the grey full length kaftan is my favorite piece.
Fashion styling by Heather Breen. Hair by Carla Pressley. Makeup by Dominique Farina. Retouching by Sarah Tobi. Model: Brittany @ Port City Models.
Wolf Spirit for Tree of Life
I'm really proud of this Tree of Life campaign, Wolf Spirit, which I shot with my wonderful photo partner Sarah Tobi earlier this year. When at the conceptual stage I imagined what I wanted the final image to look like, this was exactly what I had in mind.
Hair was by Julia Reinhard; makeup by Christyna Kay; photo assisting by Kayla Clements; and the beautiful model is Liz @ Port City Models. Retouching by Sarah Tobi.
Tree of Life 21st Anniversary Campaign
I'm late in reporting it but I shot this in Sydney at the end of 2011 for Tree of Life's Enchantress campaign celebrating the 21st anniversary of the brand. I love capturing fabric in motion! Digital was artwork by Abigael Whittaker, who also styled the shoot.
It seemed like a fine philosophy. In five years, I thought, it will seem just as silly as all the other fine philosophies I've had.

Tree of Life Lookbook
Here's a favorite shot from my lookbook for Tree of Life's last campaign. The look was a kind of Boho Stevie Nicks mash-up (once we had our tambourine, all became clear) styled by the magnificent Abigael Whittaker.
Top 5 things to wear instead of clothes
1. cobwebs/gossamer
2. light
3. fragrance
4. beads of water

Steven Alan F/W 2012
This morning I rose early to shoot Steven Alan's Fall/Winter 2012 presentation at Pier 59 for Kate Ryan Inc. Steven Alan's look is always strongly unified, combining attractive tailoring with a rich color mix. As you can see I tend to get a bit involved taking portraits of models. Many of them speak with British accents, so please imagine accordingly while viewing the pictures.
The key makeup artist was Kristi Matamoros.
The key hairstylist was Amy Farid.
The line was styled by Lara Backmender.
Backstage @ Gerlan Jeans Part II
The finale of the Gerlan show was this Nickelodeon slime dress which was constructed on the spot. Personally I feel this picture to be a small masterpiece. I think it's the tension in the cupping fingers.
Here is the slime being prepared.
Solange, Beyonce's underrated sister.
This dude you may recognize as the star of Lana Del Rey's music video Born to Die. I'm not sure but I think they may have met at this show. She commented to me that he seemed like a bad boy, the kind she used to run with...
I totally had this tshirt as a kid. I bought it at Disneyland aged 9. Finally, twenty years later, validation. PS. Kindly observe and admire nails.
Backstage @ Gerlan Jeans
Last Fashion Week (September 2011) my favorite experience was shooting backstage at Gerlan Jeans which was held in some kind of sweltering little former sex club downtown. This setting led to sweat and intimacy. The show took the piss out of 90's goth elements, Nickelodoen chic and teen rebellion at the same time as exalting them. I like Gerlan because it's a label with a sense of humor.
These are the accessories designers Coco and Breezy. The sight of them restored my faith in aesthetics.
This model and another one asked me if they could duct-tape me to the wall. I said "Maybe after the show" and they said "Cool come find us." Later it turned out this tape was used to construct a dress so unfortunately I missed out on my exclusive male model duct tape orgy.
The goth lite makeup look was created by key makeup artist Kristi Matamoros. Note covetable jet fighter earring.
It's really upsetting when all the hairstylists and backstage people are so much better looking than me.
Outside on the street afterwards was a strange and wonderful contrast to the dark show space, because all the fluorescent goo and purple hair extensions and busy prints looked even more bizarro in daylight. That's what I like. Clashing worlds.
This hot model got to casually take her headpiece home on the subway. This photograph was published in Argentina's DMAG, in an article by Pierce Cunningly.
After taking pictures but mostly being too shy to talk to anyone I noticed a very small and pretty girl standing by the wall. I caught sight of her full lips and recognized her... Presenting: the hand of Lana Del Rey.
In these pictures I asked Lana and Pierce Cunningly (whom we'd both just met) to act like newlyweds. Scarily good huh.
I'd heard Video Games just a few weeks before so I was surprised that here was Lana Del Rey the person, materializing in my 3D life. I told her I think she is a beautiful lyricist and vocalist, and she was excited by how excited I was. We hung outside with her British wardrobe stylist Johnny for an hour chatting. My impression of her from this one encounter is that her personality is quite consistent with her music and public image. She has a wry and knowing sense of humor. She sang a scale and I could detect the training in her voice. When I told her I was looking forward to seeing her big New York debut she said, "I heard that it sold out in three minutes. Isn't that crazy?" I liked her very much. I hope she develops a comfortable relationship with fame and looks after herself.
