6-2026 artist/writer commentary
May's posts covering the artist and writer Patreon commentary for the April AND May 2026 pages of Homestuck^2 Beyond Canon are up. As I alluded to last month, I want to do a better job NOT spoiling fun bonus content you can get 60 days early by subscribing to the Homestuck Patreon, so this is going to be even more abridged than usual. I'm going with a bulleted-list format where I'm ONLY going to cover my plot-relevant takeaways as I read, trying for paraphrasing as opposed to direct quotes wherever possible, and skimming even more lightly than I typically do in my Commentary liveblog coverage without describing what else they show off or what else I'm looking at. I was already trying to respect the paywall to encourage people to fund Beyond Canon, but I want to take that respect a little more seriously than I was doing before.
Maybe I'll decide that this actually advertises the Patreon content worse than my previous abridged-liveblog format of it did, but I want to try it this way for at least a month or two of Patreon Commentary and then if it works for people probably stick to it. It'll also be easier and more relaxing for me I hope. Let's go! Also I'm switching from the "Satyrical ⍺/β/⍵" tag to the "Satyrical A/O/B" tag moving forward.

New Beyond Canon update, which isn't just a Beyond-Canon-inside-Beyond-Canon update! Back to the show! Liveblogging under the cut. (EDIT 1: Figured out a title/nickname I realized what was meant by, edited in right near the end.) (EDIT 2: Another clarification on re-read about that character.) (EDIT 3: Added info from @shoutyourporpoise in the replies!)

Since last time, we've had an Artist/Writer Commentary unlock where I did a bit of extra liveblogging and I took an official shot at the Hero Titles / Classpects of everyone in the new HS:BC session so I can have the fun of being right and wrong. Let's see what's next for us:
((EDIT: Added some notes about characters missing from the scene and the unidentified scorchmark(?). EDIT 2: Added more to the end edits. EDIT 3: Also identified an odd shirt symbol or two. EDIT 4: Missed a minor Vriska/Terezi detail.))
Homestuck^2 Beyond Canon Hero Title Guesses - 2026-05-05
Folks who have been watching my liveblogging have been helping me dissect the environmental evidence for the "Omega Session's" classpects for months and months now. I'm damned certain (but could still be wrong) about all of their Aspects, and now that we have reasonable Class guesses for most of them, I figured I might as well shoot my shot before any of these Titles get officially confirmed and lay out most of the accumulated evidence for each character in a single gigantic post:
Harry - Heir of Heart
Vrissy - Witch of Mind
Tavvy - Page of Life
Yiffy - Thief(?) of Rage (Least certain of class; could be Maid, Mage, or one of the others like Knight or Rogue if we got other folks wrong.)
auguryAside - Sylph of Time
championsTirade - Prince of Space
Ly'lac - Rogue(?) of Doom (2nd least certain of class)
Swiss - Knight(?) of Light (3rd least certain of class)
tinnitusChakra - Seer of Void
Del'fi - Bard of Blood
If you're unfamiliar with my blog, even though my guesses are somewhat subjective, it's not all just vibes or personality-tests-- there's a whole lot more direct circumstantial and textual evidence than you might think, and I want to arm you with it. Granted, much of it relies on a continually updated theoretical framework of what Aspects represent, but it's important to notice that the Homestuck^2 team will absolutely have been hiding text hints and visual symbolism for every character's Title throughout the story, and we just need to sniff those out and interpret them correctly.
I'm gonna try and lay out the ENTIRE evidence heap under the cut, including some of the evidence for competing theories. I'd also like to note that there's no clear evidence (yet) that any of our players are experiencing Role Inversion (see title'd section) before the session has even started, but I could be wrong about that, which would mess with our predictions.
Finally finished the image for the thing! You'll have to wait to see it until I finish the classpect writeup in the next few days though. Calling so many shots like this just doesn't feel as serious as I want it to come across without a header image that clearly took me hours. :D
Do you think that the long exposition on Alpha/Omega/Beta roles might be foreshadowing as to the Alpha/Omega/Beta kids and their interactions with the upcoming game?
Not particularly, no. I think the importance of adapting an Omegaverse romance system that reflected Dirk Strider's characteristics and values and would make for interesting interactions between the session's players was too crucial to leave room for such generalizations.
I'm working on a post this week calling my shot on all the Hero Titles of the Beyond Canon Session! Just showing off the initial Photoshop (well, GIMP) header image progress to lift the mood. All my calls are out there already across my blog and the Fruity Rumpus forums, I just wanna compile them and all their evidence in a single convenient blogpost I can stamp with the current date for later debunking, and I can update it with new evidence or recreate it with a new datestamp if we need to change our assumptions.
Slapping a bunch of images and colors in an image editor is a nice cathartic low-pressure activity that lets me procrastinate on the fuckhuge writeup. Relaxing! (I can't draw for crap but I'm well practiced at clipping existing stuff together.)
Also it was exactly 0 moments ago that I realized Harry's scissor weapon is literally Heart-shaped, if the evidence pile for Harry as Heart weren't already mountainous. Maybe some of us made that observation years ago too, I can't remember.
I wondered if you seen the document recently released detailing some of the harassment Hussie and members of the Homestuck team had faced.
So, if you've ever been interested in Homestuck drama, which I largely avoid -- and if you've never heard any of it, no reason for you to dig in the dirt now unless you feel the need to -- this pair of tweets (+ docky and thread) is what they're referring to. A good through-line from the rest of the Homestuck Community Team making sense of some things Andrew had alluded to in the Color Composer post that I'd previously doubted, heavy trigger warnings in general for that too.
I considered being a coward and not addressing this, but this echoes and makes sense of what private sentiments I'd heard from people who would know what was going on inside the various post-Homestuck teams. Put bluntly, I believe in the thrust of it and believe the Homestuck team members who contributed to this. It's a comprehensive effort I believe reflects their heartfelt perspective (and is obviously not AI), and I believe the people it names as dishonest bad-actors are not to be trusted on matters of Homestuck's works or the team. (The document was particularly enlightening regarding C&D notices vs legal takedown requests, and the rash of seemingly fake ones.) My blog isn't a drama blog and I have trust issues regarding who to listen to on this matter, so if you message me about it to argue for one side or another I'm not planning to respond to you. I just felt like y'all deserved to know I'd stopped sitting on the fence, afraid to have (much less express) a strong opinion, even if I'm admittedly afraid of (and uninterested in) arguing about it.
(Not that my believing in something has ever been too strong an indication of it being true. Hah!)
But the biggest reason I opted to respond to this message, and highlight any drama whatsoever on my blog, is that I feel like I've been a part of the problem, intentionally or unintentionally, and I really want to apologize for any grief or stalking my Classpecting crusade has caused anyone on any of the Homestuck teams. I've created an audience at least partially of Classpect zealots, and I wouldn't be surprised if my past behavior encouraged anyone to go too far seeking "answers". And I'm not immune myself (see under the cut). I feel responsible for that, and for letting the lack of healthy psychological boundaries between myself and Homestuck infect others. We all need to remember that this is ultimately just a story, and piling onto those responsible for it demanding certain answers or story directions isn't something we as readers are wholly entitled to do. We CAN just try and trust them to fulfill their promises if they've earned our trust, and then be disappointed if we eventually believe they didn't, without feeling we need to dig answers out of them.
Authors DO have a responsibility to not do foul by their audiences to a certain extent (a responsibility they've sometimes failed, especially with the Epilogues IMO), however I've believed for years (since therapy especially) and continue to believe -- believe -- that the creators of Homestuck content, including Andrew and on forward, have made a sometimes-flawed but fundamentally honest and continually improving effort to do their best by readers and not substantially injure them. I also believe that the current Beyond Canon team has proven itself one of the BEST teams imaginable to cater to the readers, proven that they deeply understand readers' emotional demands of the story, and what will bring joy to the vast majority of them without causing pain to those who emotionally identify closely with the characters. I don't think it's unreasonable to deeply trust the Beyond Canon team to largely not hurt us, and even if they mess up, I don't plan on taking it personally.
5-2026 artist/writer commentary
April's posts covering the artist and writer Patreon commentary for the March 2026 pages of Homestuck^2 Beyond Canon are up, skimming over my reactions to parts of it under the cut. (Very abridged, please support the Homestuck Patreon to see the whole thing early!) Though before I get into it, I want to do a bit of extra Liveblogging and use this opportunity to relay a few things other people have pointed out to me about recent upd8's, like the shipteasing I'd missed between Jake and Karkat in the previous upd8 in particular...
HS^2 bloggin’ mainline 2026-04-30
(Previous post - current page 1054)
I feel like I've been waiting on tiptoes for this update to arrive for some reason, expecting it down every dark alley. And there'll be more writer/artist commentary too tomorrow most likely, when it rains it pours. Anyway, this character doesn't seem likely to be swayed by people ordering them to stop, they seem quite oppositional, so let's see what the Beyond Canon inside Beyond Canon they'll draw will look like...
EDIT: Added some more at the end secondhand from the NYCStuck Q&A that seemed relevant. (EDIT 2: An observation at the end another made about these two Exiles.)
I've always been curious, have you ever classpected yourself?
Yep!
I had a nice bit of Classpecting discussion on the Fruity Rumpus forums where user Florida Man's Neighbor pointed out that the Knight is likely to assist the Space player, and as such if CT is indeed Space (possibly a Prince of Space with his kinship with the theoretical Bard of Blood) how this increases the likelihood of someone like Swiss being a Knight of Light rather than some other class. Really good analysis from them!
I'm also beginning to suspect again that Tavvy is quite possibly a Page of Life, due to his heritage, nature and tendencies (tending to his friends' nutrition, etc), and how he would potentially get on fantastically with The Mountain (though all the Satyrs really, he seems like that kind of guy). If the pair's classes line up Prince and Page, it could even form a mirror of Dirk and Jake's relationship that goes much better than they worked in Homestuck 1, to present Dirk's chagrin?
EDIT: Wait a damn minute... I just also realized that if CC/Del'fi were to become a God-Tier Bard of Blood, they might have a freakin' codpiece. That's actually hilariously gender-validating.
Hi, I tried to respond to your reply on the forum but I got an error so I'm just gonna copy/paste it here:
Regarding the Time player helping with frogs: I think your evidence is circumstantial. It's already established that the role of a (successful and cooperative) Time player is mainly to prevent "softlocks" in whatever form they take. It's also established that frog breeding is hard, and that fucking it up is in fact a softlock. Karkat's comment about Aradiabots popping in to chastise him seems to have more to do with that duty, as opposed to any form of active help. It's possible that, as you said, Aradia just failed as a Time player due to horrorterror manipulation, but I don't think you've managed to show sufficient evidence that she was in any way "supposed" to play a bigger role in that than she did.
Regarding a Candy Knight: Yeah, I tried to specify in my post that I only looked at characters that I thought had an established rapport/interesting dynamic with CT. I don't think it's impossible for him to have an interesting dynamic with any of the Candies, you already talked about potential with Tavvy, and I think depending on how much Satyr Wrestling resembles WWE (flashy costumes and dramatic monologues to set the stakes), he and Harry would either be instant friends or immediate archenemies. But ultimately I think it would be more satisfying to give him a Knight that forces him to follow through on all the foreshadowed drama that he was already in the centaur of before we even learned his name.
I don't hate either idea, in fact if they were both true we'd have one member of each society collaborating on a new universe which is kinda beautiful. But I find one shaky from a lore perspective and the other shaky from a narrative perspective, so I highly doubt either will pan out.
I know it's not a sure thing, but I think the evidence is stronger than circumstantial: Calliope stated that a game session has a "minimUm reqUirement of two players. one of space and the other of time." We must then use the evidence available to us to determine exactly why that is the case (it makes sense for the context of creating a Universe), and importantly, how the Game would enforce such a requirement.
You yourself mention that softlocks could be a danger during frog breeding, but I think that's somewhat off the mark. Even though they had some advice from Kanaya and Karkat, Dave and Jade completed their frog breeding in a shockingly tight timeframe of about one day, without ANY softlocks, which amazes Karkat who'd previously thought it wouldn't be possible for the humans:
CG: ANYWAY, SHE AND DAVE DO A LOT OF FROG BREEDING, ACCELERATING THE PROCESS SIGNIFICANTLY BY EXPLOITING TIME TRAVEL [...] YOU BREED THE RIGHT FROG TO MAKE THE UNIVERSE YOU WANT TO MAKE, WHICH IS A LONG ARDUOUS PROCESS AND I KIND OF FUCKED IT UP IN MY GAME, BUT THAT'S A WHOLE OTHER STORY WHICH I'LL GET TO LATER, OK? [...] I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYONE EXPLOIT TIME TRAVEL SO SHAMELESSLY AS HIM, NOT EVEN ARADIA.
As far as we know, no doomed timelines or doomed Daves were created during the Beta Session's frog breeding, and if time travel works how we suspect the Answer to the Ultimate Riddle (<- if you click any theorylink of mine, that's the most important) suggests it does, doomed timelines most often aren't necessary to forestall mistakes as long as the Time player holds the necessary mindset to check against the future and always show up in time via Stable Time Loop without changing events. (Which as you've seen me argue, I believe Aradia should have done instead of creating so many doomed clones that they were destined to invoke a threat capable of destroying them all to enforce their doom.)
Furthermore, consider that bad softlocks can be fixed via one-time travel... without a Time player. John may have had the assistance of a legendary artifact, but he retcon-fixed the Game Over timeline. Gamzee was able to use Aradia's music boxes to time travel. There were even complicated stable time loops initiated and facilitated through the Exiles by Jade Harley, when she was in her earlier pre-dreamdeath mindset. Time travel isn't exclusively available to the Time player-- the Time player is just the person whose talents and personality are best suited to understanding and making proper use of the ability, not to mention given a Land whose clockwork-like components code easily into alchemizing the ability to travel.
And so, consider: How might the Game be constructed to ensure the heroes of Space and Time must work together to complete it properly? There are several options, and my answer isn't for-certain the right one, but I think the most obvious explanation is that the timeline of the Reckoning is deliberately set so that there's not enough time to breed the Genesis Frog. It would be simple, elegant, and in one fell stroke require Space and Time heroes to deliberately cooperate to solve the problem, regardless of what shape each session might take across Paradox Space. How did a session that lasted a month "run out of time" to find the Final Frog when a session that didn't even last two days managed to time travel enough to accomplish it (along with a correct Denizen choice, I admit, though that could have been Kanaya's lost lead)? Aradia is punnily supposedly made of time, someone who has as much time as she wants and needs, and at least twice (1, 2) the story refers to her "buy[ing] time". I'm of the impression that the fact that there "Was Not Enough Time" in the MUCH longer Trolls' Session was a deliberate metanarrative hint put in by Andrew to show us why a correctly victorious session needs to have Space and Time heroes working closely together.
That alluded line of Kanaya's always stood out to me as a huge red flag, especially given how Bilious Slick's genetics were not only cancerous, but apparently specifically tailored to result in a specific sort of Sun-generating dual-universe-fueled bomb. It's not just that the genetic tailoring had to have a source -- the "c0nsequences t0 f0ll0wing [...] what they say" -- but also that in so many instances throughout the story, success and failure within a given game session parallels thematic reasons why the game would be set up to reward or punish such behavior, and thus it follows that if the universe created by a session was born sick, the circumstances which led to its creation likely went against the spirit of the Game in some way. The way most of the trolls avoided or declined their Denizen choices was one of them, but the very fact of running out of time for frog breeding in such a long session was definitely another standout IMO.
(EDIT: I'm getting the same error trying to post to the original Fruity Rumpus thread you are, I think it might have something to do with the updates and new features (like post editing! :D ) just pushed to the new forums, and/or it being a quite stale thread or one that predates the forum update.)
(EDIT 2: It's a known/reported bug where your replies don't show up unless your signature isn't blank! Hopefully they fix that quickly.)
(EDIT 3: I also partially forgot that appearifying the ecto-clone of a frog instead of a frog itself requires the frog to already be temporally obligated to have been found at a later time from when it's appearified, and that would be VERY difficult to accomplish en-masse without working closely with a Time player as well, which could go another long way towards explaining why Karkat and Kanaya took so long with only Doomed Aradias offering corrections instead of potentially more active help.)

Bug has always been an artist, devoting much of his time to creative pursuits a… Melissa French needs your support for Help Bug Attend Pre-C
Putting out a call for help for a family member--one of my younger siblings has been awarded a Silver Key by the Scholastic Art Awards program and has been invited to a pre-college art program at the Institute of Art and Design at New England College! The catch is that to attend reasonably he'd have to be a resident there for the duration of the program, which costs a decent chunk. After the scholarship he was awarded for this program, the total cost of doing this comes to $2550, which is a lot to swing for that very poor branch of my family. On top of that, the sooner this gets funded the better, as it's a first-come first-serve program, and registration requires payment. If any of you is willing to drop a few dollars towards this gofundme, I'd be grateful!
i think it's probably wise to use the name Dagger and he/him pronouns for CC, or at the very least they/them and just keep CC. i think all signs point to Del'fi and she/her not being monikers CC finds enjoyable
First of all, if you want to be respectful do keep in mind that they're explicitly sick of the name Dagger, a name they picked out ages ago which now embarrasses them-- they will likely choose a completely different male/Satyr(?) name eventually (though it'll still probably start with 'D'). Second, I want to grant myself and others some flexibility on pronoun use for Del'fi: unlike people in the real world for whom transition affects their ever-present Now, fictional characters exist on a full temporal spectrum from the beginning to the end of their story, where they can desire to go by different pronouns depending on how far in they are and what part of the story we're speaking about-- and we're only at the beginning of Del'fi's story, where Del'fi doesn't appear to have fully considered the idea of going full Uni-Nymph and choosing he/him, abandoning she/her.
Mind you, it's VERY LIKELY (EDIT: basically 200% guaranteed) that they'll turn out transmasc and go by he/him at some point in the future, and Del'fi is a name they seem just as determined to outgrow as Dagger if not moreso. But that's set to be resolved further along their character arc. I know you're not accusing me of this, but I feel like reiterating that it's not "deadnaming" to refer to a character who's yet to even fully decide to transition at the point of the story we're referring to.
In the meantime, I feel no qualms using the ambiguous "they/them" for Del'fi out of politeness while we wait for where their journey for identity brings them, which might not even be the place we all seem to expect it to land (EDIT: but probably will be, unless the authors have an even more gender-defying twist in the works). The introduction of multiple alien species of various genders to Del'fi's world and imagination, along with the literal transformations and split-selves the Game might offer, could carve a path for Del'fi's evolving identity we couldn't possibly expect. One (ONE) of the writers/artists referring to them with he/him pronouns could be, for all we know, a distaction for a different future pronoun-transition choice they're obscuring. You can't say that's unimaginable; this is Homestuck after all. (EDIT: Now they're all using he/him in the Commentary posts, so, kind of a given. I do love how they care too much for the future we haven't even seen of this character (which they've already written ahead a ton) to have the heart to misgender them even as an authorial distraction.)
I won't say you're wrong for using he/him, it's a valid prediction (EDIT: and in line with what the authors are doing everywhere outside the comic, so arguably the most correct). But I wouldn't say my opting for more ambiguous pronouns for Past!Del'fi until the direction of Del'fi's transition is temporally reached in-comic is "wrong" either. We're not certain EXACTLY where the story will go, other than the obvious fact that transgender characters are practically inevitable. EDIT: I think I worded this post a bit harsher than I meant to word it, especially considering the authors are consistently using he/him for Del'fi now in the Artist/Writer Commentary from month to month, so uh, sorry about that. Went back and softened the language throughout this post considerably. Also, I guess I still kind of want to keep using they/them for Del'fi just so I can celebrate with a proper pronoun change when they finally make the switch in-comic.
