Shadowheart weaves the truth of her intent behind her words. Lost on someone's who's spent less time with her, but Laera reads the message clearly. Simply put, ' You're being distracted. ' Laera scoffs, squinting into the darkness laid out before them, attempting to discern both the ledge and the path — where one leads to their destination, the other, a swift fall to Hells knows where. Coming to the Underdark was a bad idea and being in the thick of it reaffirms her original thought.

❝ You could 'ave just said pay attention. I would 'abve understood you clearly, Shadow'eart. ❞ Laera remarks, keeping herself rooted firmly in place as her left hand braces against what she certainly knows to be the side of a cliff. She won't admit it, but distraction is too light a word. Everything that's been plaguing her seems to be weaving through her conscious; thoughts she's otherwise been able to tamp down through sheer force of will alone. The tadpole bursting through her skull is at the top of her mind; followed by the flightiness of her love interest; and then there's the matter of tripping to her death. ( If she falls into the abyss, though, Shadowheart is coming with her. )

❝ I want to turn around, ❞ She turns halfway to eye the cleric, barely a dark shape against the backdrop of black. ❝ We should 'ave gone topside. Would 'ave been a 'ell of a lot easier, and safer, if we 'ad the sun to light our way. The deeper we go, the 'arder it will be to turn back. Can't say it's a risk I'm willing to take any longer… ❞

Her instincts are never wrong and from the prickling at the back of her neck, something tells Laera she's closer to danger than she'd like to be. A moment to rest should be peaceful, but peace doesn't find her. The twitch of panic crawling down her arm, to her fingers, thrumming at the touches of Weave. Wyll is her first real brush with a warlock, yet to share company with another is a touch beyond comfortable. The hidden figure backing their fount of power, while undeniably valuable, leaves too many questions. Laera doesn't like the unanswered.

❝ You've been staring at me like I'm a sour lemon- ❞ a lime, maybe? ❝ and I am just curious if I have offended you in anyway, Laera? ❞ Nasrin cannot hide the way she emotes at the thought, clearly sad if not outright torn up from the idea she may have accidentally offended the other.

❝ I'm just staring. ❞ Laera responds to dismiss the accusation, scarred brow wrinkling the centre of her forehead as she looks elsewhere. For a moment, she allows the matter to rest. Nothing else said, and no obvious tell that she wishes to continue the conversation… Until the whisper of ' what if? ' returns. Her face noticeably scrunches, and dark eyes quickly snap to hold Nasrin beneath her hardened gaze. ❝ You're a warlock, yet you talk like a paladin or cleric at times… Why? ❞

both of these were me guessing with the actual cc selection or mod i had on hand! i think i got alara's (honestly don't remember what i picked but it's a vanilla preset). definitely channeling her inner alara in #2 lmaoo her natural hair leans more into brown-red than laera's ginger, but i can tell there are red undertones.

grier was hard. :( ik she has pink hair and there were some vanilla options i liked but they didn't look anything close to what grier actually has. and i also know you're still looking for an adequate pink so this is what i chose! it's pink-pink.... i don't hate it on laera, but i think a desaturated pink would look best on her with her skin tone.

i was going to include astarion's white but he and alara have pretty much the same hair colour, and the greying wasn't enough to make a difference! anyways.... all of you guys coincidentally have characters with white hair so here's the result on laera. 🤣

i swear these are different whites and i think you can kind of tell in the first two pics of each row. i don't hate it, but laera's skin tone is too warm to look good with stark white hair, sadly. :( also her eyebrows are white in one and not the other and as a preference, i always prefer darker brows with lighter hair colours.

There is a point where Laera stops thinking of the how — how did they get to this point? Entangled in and through one another; confessions shared in breathless whispers; the rise of heated passions free from constraint. Falling over the space of her tent is time exhausted; frantically pulling themselves out of their clothes to meet in desperate embrace. ( As if they will never hold each other again. ) The thought has accosted them all since Gortash died — unnoticed and unremembered — within the walls of Wyrn's Rock. Only a few days of preparation stood between them and the Netherbrain.

This will remain a thought for another day…

Her focus, though, is pulled from the events of yesterday, to Vann's mouth at her neck. He has grown bold; his confidence swelling when they find themselves alone and a stark contrast from where they began, to where they are now. He is always mindful of her; observing, cautious. He is thoughtful; formulating a response to the unmistakable tells she grabs his attention with: Smiling too hard when he speaks of what he loves; eyeing him too long when he stands away from her; calling him back if only to selfishly want him near. He learns and adapts. ( Wholly and without complications she adores him. )

Vann kisses her carefully about the throat; testing her patience with a brush of his teeth just under her jaw. Laera hums and sighs, directing him where she will with a word: ❝ There. ❞ He goes where she bade, dipping to mark her shoulder, smothering freckled skin with red and purple. Carefully, gently, he presses a kiss to the scar above her breast, returning to her neck once more in a trail of soft admissions. I love you; I want you; I love you —

His grip is strong around her back, pulling her flush against his chest, and what sound comes from her throat is lost to the pounding of her heart against his own. Laera synchronises to the tempo in her ears; rocking against him, soft at first, before restraint is severed by own greed. Where patience dictated her pace, selfish want replaces it. Vann cradles her head in the palm of his hand, and Laera is lost between his teeth at her throat and the hard bucking of their hips. She pulls his attention from curve of her throat, wrapping her arms around his neck as she takes him into a full-mouthed kiss.

They settle, where the rush to the end lulls into an intentional crawl, as Laera savours the taste of him. Fingers splay wide through the length of his of his hair, cradling his face as she fervently kisses him. She is keenly attuned to Vann, yet a novice in learning the art that is him. His grip is firm on her waist, and without resistance, he follows her lead. He moves as she does, regarding her pace without complaint until they fall into a hurried frenzy once again. Laera holds him tight against her, his mouth to his, as she moans his name down his throat. ❝ Vann — ❞

It is the last thing she says, her words subsumed with a pitched groan as her movements still and everything inside of her twists and burns. Her head is pressed into the dip of Vann's shoulder, whimpering as she rides him through to the end where they quell into silence.

The silence brings calm, sprinkled with a misplaced kiss here or there as Vann leads them both to lie down on the bedroll beneath them. The world outside no longer exists in the space of Laera's tent: Just her and Vann.

❝ What are you staring at? ❞ Laera smiles, lazy and careless, when she asks; fingers aimlessly brushing through the dark of his hair. She feels his fingers tap at her back, dancing up the dip of her spine as she lay atop him.

❝ I'm not staring, I'm admiring. ❞ His response comes after a held delay, his head tilting into her touch.

Laera's lips pull into a half-smile, leaning just far enough to press a kiss to his lips. When she parts from Vann, she lingers, taking in his breath and the muted smells of him, the ones she can never place. ❝ I could say the same. I always enjoy the view of you beneath me. ❞ She says, her smile now a cheeky taunt as she rests her head against his chest. His heartbeat is strong and steady, captivating her focus as it vibrates against her ear. He is safe; his warmth a comfort. ❝ I love you, Vann. ❞ Laera adds, muttering her last confession between the beats of his heart.

'won't do tasks for free' = it's clear he's significantly more selfless/ok without pay WAY more than laera is. however there has been and there will be times where refusing payment isn't an option/he's actually arranged payment for a service. to draw from an ingame example, it's like. he wouldn't say 'ok what's in it for me' when zevlor and the grove tieflings asked for help. that sort of thing.

'will swim with here (bonus for oceans)' = fun fact vann has a fear of water (related to a drowning episode during the mess with callisto) but he DOES make attempts at managing it bc he actually does like swimming. it'd just take him a bit / laera would have to be the encouraging factor in his case but hey it's doable (vannlaera beach episode)

'travels but wants to eventually settle down' = vann's a traveler at heart but he'd settle down for her. i think he'd have a complicated relationship with either settling or forever traveling bc he doesn't want to be like his father (feel isolated) or yknow. die like his mom did (out traveling) so they'd have to talk about that eventually.

'be ok with her criminality' = hasn't and won't judge her for her criminal past + accepts that in an environment like the gate, laera's past IS an asset but like. Don't Push It™ (relates to the asterisk on 'being a stiff' because vann still has a toe in the lawful spectrum despite being neutral)

'is an excellent kisser' = this is a very small detail but he doesn't consider himself special. I ON THE OTHER HAND KNOW HE'S A WONDERFUL MAN AT EVERYTHING SO LIKE. YEAH,

he really is her type, and she's either blind to it or doesn't want to admit to herself (maybe both........ definitely both). you and i know this, but the biggest hurdle, for her, is his faith. that doesn't start to define sm of his character for her come act ii, and in act iii, after nearly dying a couple of times, defeating ketheric, uncovering the secrets of the SCL, preparing for their return to baldur's gate, and all around just becoming closer... hell yeah, she comes to love him. AND YES, I MEAN LOVE. she isn't gonna say it, but it's there; she loves him.

all around, she'd be so grateful for him. bc it doesn't make sense why someone like him would ever give someone like her the time of day, but somehow............. they're together?? she's happy; he's (hopefully) happy, and laera is going to work so hard to keep it that way. whatever it takes!!

anyways, she'd be so, so appreciative of his willingness to do things like swim with her, in spite of his fears, or take the approach that her criminality is not all that she is. i think it takes being with vann for laera to understand the facets of herself she's overlooked, and really start thinking on who she is and wants to be.

he's an amazing partner for her, and even if she never says it, i will: VANN NIORUN, YOU ARE THE MAN!!!
