25. Healer.

It's like one day, you realize that the fairy tale might be slightly different than you dreamed. The castle, well, it may not be a castle. And it's not so important that it's happy ever after, just that it's [happy right now] See, once in a blue moon, people will surprise you. And once in a while, people may even take your breath away.

“Lucky duck.” She grinned giggling a bit. “The only time I got to use the prefects Bathroom was when me, Seb, Lennox and Bella snuck in.” She laughed at the memory. “We got caught and detention for like a week. But it was worth it. Is this better or not as good as the Prefects bath?” She questioned with a raised brow and playful challenge.

“I remember that!” He laughed, opening his eyes as he shook his head, the tips of his hair flinging small drops of water across the tub. “Yeah, everyone was all bent out of shape because it’s supposed to be secure or whatever.” Blake had forgotten all about that, and had never realized it was her. “Oh, no contest. The Prefect’s bath was much better.” He teased her, smirking devilishly as he flicked some bubbles in her direction.

When she felt the water move and settle she opened her eyes. “Mmm, It does doesn’t it?” She same with a wide smile, holding her hand out just to hold his again. “Mmm I like this. I love you.” She smiled, giggling again. “And I love bubble baths. Did I ever tell you that? I had this one foster mom who when ever she had a long day she’d make herself a bubble bath and I asked her one day why and she said it ‘wash her worries away’. I asked if it could wash mine away and she smiled and asked what worries I had before giving me a bottle of bubbles and showing me how much to put in.”

Placing his hand gently in hers, Blake traced small circles in her skin - more relaxed than he could remember being in weeks. “I love you, too.” He murmured, sinking slightly lower into the bubbles and sighing as the warm water climbed up his skin. “No, you haven’t.” He grinned at her story, always happy when she decided to open up to him like this. “You know, I don’t think I’ve ever taken a bubble bath outside of the Prefect’s bathroom. Not quite the same.”

Kennedy sighed. She wanted to ask him what she should do about the situation she was in with Grant and Leslie. If there were red flags she was somehow missing. But she couldn’t, she couldn’t say anything. Instead, she asked, “Should I get another dog? I’m worried that Jax gets lonely when I’m at work. Maybe I can take him to a doggy daycare thing or something? Or am I just being crazy?”

Something about her tone didn’t match up with her words, but he didn’t think about it too hard, instead focusing on what she had said. “I mean, I always say you should get another dog. That’s literally always my view.” He grinned, shrugging. “I don’t think two dogs is quite enough to bump you to crazy.” Blake nudged her. “Especially not when my best friend is a squirrel.”

“Ginny!” He grinned, half jogging to catch up to her before she disappeared. “It’s been like forever! What’d you bring us today?”

Blake squinted one eye, appraising her with a small smile. “Hannah?” He ventured a guess, only having seen both sisters a handful of times.

“Nice to see run into you outside the hospital.” He laughed, nodding to the other man and hoping he recognized him.

She shivered at the kiss and turned to face him, holding the dress up. “Eyes closed.” She teased, slipping out of the dress and into the bubbles before he opened his eyes once more. “Your turn.” She giggled, covering her own eyes with one hand and holding out her other hand for him.

Doing as he was told, he nearly lost his breath as he opened his eyes again. She was really in the bath, naked. He licked his lips, nervous. Excited, but still nervous. This was a big step for them, and he wasn’t exactly sure just what she had planned. Nodding, he took a deep breath before following her lead as she closed her eyes, stripping down and leaving his clothes in a pile behind him before climbing into the tub with her. “Merlin, does that feel good.” He sighed happily, smiling at her.

“Hey,” Ausilia spoke, sitting down opposite her friend before he had a chance to even process her sudden appearance. “I’ve been thinking, we haven’t caught up in far too long, so I thought I’d come spend my lunch break with you. So, fill me in on everything.”

It took Blake a moment to wrap around not only who had just appeared, but what they were saying to him, and he stared at her for a moment before answering. “Everything?” He asked, drawing a blank as he tried to think of anything that had been going on. “I mean, I’m pretty boring, you might have made a mistake picking me.”

“No I’d just hide that behind my jacket.” Charlie pulled at the flaps. “I’m not that dumb. Yet.”

“You’re right, it might retroactively kick in. That’s exactly how that works.” He chuckled, knocking him playfully in the shoulder. “Do you think they could make flavored cotton candy? Like, other than just.... sugar?”

“Now why didn’t I think of that?” She giggled before stepping up and looping her arms around his neck. “Ready when you are my love.” 

“Come on.” He murmured, offering his arm before apparating them to the only beach he knew of. It wasn’t very big, but the sand was soft and it was mostly secluded, not too crowded. “Merlin, I haven’t been here in forever.”

Holland had waited for him in the break room like she said until she was summoned to one of her younger patients. She didn’t rush easing them back to sleep for the third time that night. Maybe if she took her time they would stay asleep this time. She snuck away once they had nodded off. slipping slowly until the door was closed than it was all but a sprint toward the break room. She grinned as she seen him, moving to wrap her arms around his shoulders from behind. “There’s my handsome man. Hows Mr. Dickerson?” She asked as she kissed his cheek. 

“Exhausting.” He sighed, although he couldn’t help but smile at just the sight of her, no matter how tired he was. Turning his head, he caught her lips with his own, humming contently before he led her to the couch and collapsed onto it. “If it’s not him, it’s Mrs. Van Dyke, and if it’s not Mrs. Van Dyke, it’s Mrs. Callahan.” He shook his head - most night shifts were easy, but of course this would be the one that wasn’t. “What about you? How’s your night going? I feel like I’ve barely seen you.”

“Well, then you’ve come to the right brother.” He nodded, leaning his chin on his hand. “What’s up, Ken?”

Blake tried not to rush through his work - that was how mistakes were made. He slowed his hands, taking a deep, steadying breath as he finished fixing the man’s IV, but his thoughts were only on Holland. They’d been struggling to find time together all night - but at least they were both here. “That should feel much better.” He assured the man with a smile, before nodding and leaving the room to go find her. But when he got to the break room again, she was gone, and he sighed heavily, taking his New Year’s headband off and wringing it through his fingers as he waited to see if she was coming back.

Holland rolled her eyes but smiled brightly before she disappeared in the colset. She came back out, suite under a summer dress. “Are you going in that or do we need to swing by your place?”

“Stunning.” He commented, winking at her as she reappeared. Blake stood to go, shaking his head as he got his wand out of his back pocket, tapping it against his pants and turning them into swim trunks. “All set.”

“I want to take a bath silly.” She laughed as she leaned backwards into his hold. She lead her head back, closing her eyes comfortably for a moment. “Mmmmm, you’re so comfortable. You’ll join me right?” She asked as she pulled away to start the tub with a wave of her wand. She started the bubbles before setting her wand down and turning to him. “Can you get my zipper?”

“Silly me.” He murmured, rolling his eyes playfully. He’d figured that was why she had gone to the bathroom, but Blake hadn’t thought she’d wanted to take one together. They’d never done anything like that before. “If you want me here, I’m here.” He assured her with a small smile, tugging her zipper down and planting a soft kiss at the nape of her neck.
