“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.”– Audrey Hepburn There's so much we can learn from nature. So much we can learn from flowers, plants, trees etc... Their existence and growth teaches us a lot about the quality of hope. Yes HOPE. Think about from the moment a seed is sown. There is no thinking nor objection to being buried alive in the ground and in the dirt! No! Yet, whilst grounded, a seed does its best to extract the nutrients and water it needs to thrive. It doesn't debate nor think about whether it can grow because of its relative position or situation. It simply knows it WILL grow. That's H. O. P. E. That's believing in tomorrow even when we can't see today. And guess what, everyday, it grows, it hopes, it lives, it hopes, it thrives, it hopes and one day, it becomes the tomorrow it hoped to be: the fruit. In addition, science tells us that Serotonin (one of the "happy" chemicals produced in our brain - also known as 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)) is a neurotransmitter that has an essential role in the regulation of emotion, which literally helps promote positive feelings and prosocial behavior in us. This chemical is easily produced and increases, without the need for drugs, by our exposure to bright light - especially in natural environment. So literally, planting a garden exposes you to that nature's light, which would eventually produce nature's delight - H. O. P.
