Born In The Rock 5/31/1948: The late, great John Bonham, aka Bonzo, the thunder behind the hammer of the gods. Bonham had the power, the feel, the groove and the swing to take Zeppelin beyond what anyone imagined. Gone way too soon.
May 31 marks the birth of John Bonham, born in 1948 in Redditch, Worcestershire, England. He would become widely recognized as the drummer of Led Zeppelin, a band that reshaped rock music through its powerful sound and expansive compositions. Bonham’s playing style, marked by force, precision, and deep rhythmic control, became a defining element of the group’s identity, influencing generations of musicians.
Happy 78th birthday in heaven, John Bonham! 🥁
