Photos of my Angel Esmeralda (Disney) cosplay, worn to Anime Central 2025 on Friday.
The wings were a 3-month labor of love, frustration, and experimentation made of PVC, Pex tubing, Worbla, Acetate sheets of various colors, and Galaxy Glass Paints. While the original concept was inspired by the fan art above, I decided to take artistic liberty with the wing design. I tried to make the panels more accurate to the stained-glass windows of the Notre-Dame de Paris, with the color gradient reminiscent of a sunset over the horizon. The dress is also closer to her actual design at the end of the animated movie (and yes, I did actually singe the bottom of the dress - my mother was very concerned for my safety and mental state).
Hope you all like the final look! If anyone on here happens to have seen me at the con and gotten photos, please let me know!
Hamilton Costume Analysis - Eliza (part 1)
Schuyler Sisters
Eliza wear a robe Ă l'anglaise, a dress featuring a stiff, fitted bodice with a tab front, front button closure, lacing up the back, pleated, full skirt with volume at the hips, square neckline with lace trim, and ž length sleeves with lace engageantes. The lace trim and engageantes are part of the chemise, In the 18th century the engageantes could be part of the chemise or separate pieces. Proper 18th century undergarments are worn, stays, chemise, petticoats, and a bum pad. The dress is made of silk, the most popular fabric of the 18th century, in a mint blue. Blue has been a popular color for centuries, in the 18th century light colors like sky blues were popular. Her shoes are a âLouisâ heel made of a matching fabric with a shoe buckle.
Helpless - Satisfied
Elizaâs dress for Helpless has the same silhouette as the first dress with some additions and changes. This style of dress is called a zone front dress. The neckline and stiff bodice are the same but without the buttons and thereâs a center front seam. The dress has long, fitted sleeves and goes into a jacket like shape on the bodice, covering the back and buttoning in the front, itâs not a jacket because itâs attached to the dress and not removable. This jacket part goes all the way down over the back section of the skirt with a peplum in between the bodice and skirt. The middle section of the dress is a mint blue, and the outer section is an aqua shade. There is also a belt that goes with this dress, but Iâve only seen it on display and in behind the scenes, not on stage.
Stay Alive
This dress features long fitted sleeves, front ribbon lacing, a light blue color in a cooler tone than her other two dresses and the lacing is in a slightly deeper shade. She sometimes wears a sheer, white partlet with the dress.

God okay so Iâm going to say this now; PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not risk your health or anyoneâs in the form of getting a âcheapâ binder of ebay or where ever. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE save your $4-$10 dollars for those cheap ebay ones and put it towards a gc2b binder. Or if you want an Underworks go for that but I highly suggest gc2b. Theyâre about $40 (with shipping) and will last you WAY longer than any cheap ebay one. They are MEANT for lasting you. I wash mine many times week, wear it daily, Wear them daily. I have two. Had them for almost a year now. But I cannot urge you enough to PLEASE save up your pennies for a PROPER SAFE binder. Binders you can breathe in, binders you can move in, binders that donât crush your ribs, binders that are comfortable, binders that are safe.
This isnât a safe binder:
It uses clasps and not compression.
This is a c2b binder; made by trans people for trans people:
These binders have no clasps but uses spandex to compress you safety.Â
Measure your chest before ordering to make sure you donât get one too small or too large.

How to Choose a Chest Binder
If you still remember your old bra size, you can find out your binder size by using theBra to Chest Size Converter Tool. If you donât know your old bra size, you can measure yourself the old-fashioned way:
Take a snug measurement of the fullest part of your chest using a tape measure (best if measured while clothed) and write that number down onto a sheet of paper.
Measure underneath your chest where the crease is and write that number down as well.
Add those numbers together and divide the sum by 2. This number will differentiate your size not only from brand to brand but from binder to binder as well.
Selecting a binder brand and style can be difficult: there are so many options that it can be overwhelming! Plus, there arenât very many reviews of binders other than those about Underworksâ and T-Kingdomâs more popular models. After buying your binder, help make the experience easier for guys in the future by contributing your review to one of the review sites listed below.
Essentially, there are two types of binders: short ones and long ones. The short ones end right at your waist. The down side of these is that if you carry some extra weight, short binders tend to roll up and act more like a bra. The long ones can be pulled down past your waist by several inches, however itâs inevitable that it will still roll up. To reduce the chances of this, wear a belt. Choosing between a short and long binder has more to do with your body type, specifically your abdomen, and not your chest size.
Lastly, consider the location of the company youâre buying from. Buying from a company thatâs closer to you can save you a significant amount of money on shipping costs.
How to Put On a Chest Binder
It might seem silly, but youâre probably going to need some help figuring out how to put on your new binder, particularly if you purchased one of the longer styles.
Put your binder inside out and upside down.
Step into your binder and pull the bottom of it up, ideally to your belt line. The binder should still be inside out and upside down.
Use the sleeves as handles to pull the top of the binder (the end closer to your feet) up to your shoulders.
Put your arms through the sleeve holes and adjust your chest to your needs. You may need to pull the bottom of the binder out from underneath itself if you donât want it folded under. For others, leaving it folded under may help stop the binder from rolling up.
Donât be disappointed if you look in the mirror and it looks like you have one big boob in the middle of your chest. You just need to adjust your chest. Reach in from the neck hole and push your chesticles down and out. Youâre basically pushing your nipple toward your armpit to achieve the flattest looking chest possible.
FTM Chest Binding Tips
Very important: When binding, you should not by any means feel as though you canât breathe or like youâre going to pass out from a lack of oxygen.
Binders arenât the most comfortable things in the world. To make binding more comfortable, and to reduce the possibility of the binder moving around a bit, some guys wear a light shirt underneath.
Depending on the size of your chest, you may need to layer clothing on top of the binder to get optimal chest flattening. Youâll find that some of the shirts in your closet require you to layer more than shirts in your wardrobe.
You can swim in your binder. Just wear a sleeveless or sleeved T-shirt over it. Donât worry if your binder seems less effective after a swim, this isnât permanent. Simply wash it and it will go back to normal.
Your chest will look bigger than it really is when you look down at it. Check in the mirror for a more accurate side view.
Not all binders breathe well, and the reality is that youâre probably going to get hot. If youâve already started testosterone, youâre definitely going to sweat. The build up of sweat can irritate your skin causing rashes and sores. Wearing a thin cotton shirt that breathes well underneath your binder may help prevent this. If you find this uncomfortable, try applying corn starch to your body before putting on your binder to help keep it from holding in moisture. If youâve already experienced skin irritation of some sort, take care of it the same way you would an open wound. Washing the irritated area with anti-bacterial soap will keep it clean and help it heal faster.
Conclusion
Chest binding, as cumbersome as it may seem, can be very freeing for transgender men. Thereâs a plethora of quality FTM chest binding products available for body types of all shapes and sizes. Regardless of what you use for binding, please remember to put your health first. Now that youâre armed with all the information you need to find the right binder for you, go forth and feel more comfortable in your skin!

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE GOOD NEWS OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, CHICAGO SCREWS??
YaâllâŚif you havenât ever used these, sit down and take a peep. I needed to redo the belt covers for Lelianaâs armor due to the fact that it took me, like, 15 minutes to put that stuff on when it should have taken less than 5. Originally, I bucked at making actual functioning buckles because I didnât have time and I was hella lazy. (OHHOHOHO HOW THINGS CHANGE)
Enter CHICAGO SCREWS.
Theyâre the magical little bits of hardware often used in making belts and doing other leather work. They come in two parts - a male end and a female end (donât laugh, itâs the truth).
I found a sizable pack on Amazon for a good price and bought that prompto. The finish isnât the prettiest, but they were cheap and this is cosplay. ;)
I used my Dremel to drill small holes through the foam of the armor. I made some straps ahead of time with the intention of them becoming new belts and just reused the bridle buckles from the old covers. Added the buckles, stitched as necessary and punched a hole where the screw would go.
The female screw I inserted through the back side of the foam. It takes a little effort and can be tricky to do. Widen your holes if needed. Add the prepared strap over the top, secure with the male end and TA DA functioning belts that look good and will actually stay on your armor.
I used foam for my armor but you could absolutely use chicago screws with Worbla builds and the like. Just check the post length to make sure itâs long or short enough to accommodate your materials.
Go make some fabulous belts now!
Cosplay (and general sewing) life hack- easy pleats with a fork! For all those school girl uniform cosplays and more :)Â
The Juliet Strap. Bridals best kept secret.
Youâll find them on most strapless bridal gowns, if the style allows for it, but you wont see much mention of them online.
I havenât been able to find any tutorials, no explanation, just the occasional reference on a bridal site. Sometimes theyâre wrongly called a waist stay, other times Iâve seen them called an elastic bustier, but Juliet strap is what we call them, and its less confusing. The manufacturers who make our dresses for us (I work with a bridal designer) have never been confused when we asked for a Juliet strap in a dress.
Its a wide strap of elastic thats sewn into the side seams and has a closure like a bra band. Iâve seen them up to about 8 inches wide, the one in the picture is about 3.
What does a Juliet strap do? It holds the front of the dress to you! If its wide enough, it will also act as a bit of a corset.Â
The strap helps hold the front up, and against your body. And keeps the movement of the front to a minimum. If youâre worried about a dress falling down, or not giving enough support in the front, its an easy alteration that will improve the fit. however, It works best with boning.
It would be the perfect addition to a bunny suit, or strapless dresses like Neo Queen serenity.Â
What's the best way to get an agent?
Getting a literary agent
In order to get a publisher, you need to find an agent. A few publishers will consider writers with no agents, but the typical submission route sees an agent pitching your work to publishers.
Who are agents?
Agents are experts in the book business. They consider hundreds of books a day, choose a few promising clients a year and try to pitch their work to publishers. If you did get an agent he/she is your best bookish friend! Agents are experts who believe in your book. Treat them fairly and donât expect them to be you biatch. Their job is pitching to publishers, not advertise your book (nor edit or listen to you whine). Know what to expect.
What do agents do?
They select authors as clients and try to get them good deals with publishers. They are paid when the writer is paid. Never give money to anyone to read your work! A serious agent would never ask for money. What donât agents do? They donât advertise your book, they donât edit, they donât cook for you, nor look after your children.
How do I get an agent?
To get an agent you have to write a query letter. In fact, on average, you have to write about 100 queries to find an agent, and that is only if your book is prime stuff. An alternative is to take part in âpitching competitionsâ like PitMad on twitter or attending a writersâ pitch conference.
How do I select which agent is right for me?
Donât flood all the literary agents of the world at once. Choose two or three who published books you liked and are similar to yours. If you canât think of any, you should probably be spending more time reading before you consider publishing. Â Check AgentQuery to find agents open to submissions in your genre. Do some research on them, make sure they are a good fit and be ready for rejection.
How do I deal with rejection?
Dismiss it. Itâs part of the job and itâs good for big egos. Finding an agent is like finding a soulmate, all you need is one. BUT, if after ten queries nobody asked for a partial of your manuscript, you might want to question if there is something wrong with your query or if youâre pitching for the wrong genres. Alternatively, it could be that your project is âhigh riskâ or not âmainstreamâ enough, in which case most agents will not take a chance. I personally think that high risk projects are awesome: go indie and publish yourself!
So, how do I write a query?
This is a quick guide on what is a query letter and how to write one to successfully pitch your novel to a literary agent or, less commonly, to a publisher.
Before I say anything about query letters let me disclaim that most of what I learnt comes from the infinite wisdom of Her Holiness the Query Shark, a successful agent dedicated to help hapless, unexperienced writers. Study her website and see plenty examples of failure and success, rejoicing at her snarky sense of humor.
What is a query letter?
A query letter is a short missive (typically an e-mail) that pitches your book in 200-300 words. Donât go over 400 words, it should fit in one page. A query letter will be likely the hardest thing you will ever write.
What elements should be in a query letter?
A query should answer the following questions:
1-Why did you select this agent?
Successful agents receive about 100 queries a day. Never write âDear Agentâ (guaranteed click-delete response). Agents want to know why you think they are a good fit for you. If you are thinking this is not your job but theirs, youâre better off indie publishing. Ask yourself how many agents are banging on your door right now and how many writers are banging at any one agentâs door. Got the picture? Good. Now do research on your agent. Good lines would be: âyou represent this other book (pertinent book similar in style or genre to yours) so I thoughtâŚâ or âYou are seeking books in this genre soâŚâ To find information about your agent of choice, start with AgentQuery, then check the specific agentâs website and any interviews online. Sometimes you might want to go as far as to check their twitter feed or search for videos. Yes, it is a lot of work and a time drain.
2- What is your book about?
You are a writer. SHOW, DONâT TELL! Never say âthis is a great storyâ or âthis is the best book you will ever readâ, âthis is the next bestsellerâ etc⌠SHOW THEM!  Start with the conflict. Donât tell them everything, just enough for them to want to read more, possibly getting a feel for your voice.
3- Why are YOU qualified to tell this story?
Are you writing a book about the Vietnam war and youâre a fifteen-year-old Italian? Well, good luck pitching that. You will have to explain why you think you are qualified, and why you are in a unique, privileged position to tell that story.
In general: You only have 200-300 words, choose them well.
1. Avoid clichĂŠs; you are a word crafter. Still, donât overdo it! Verbose queries are not good. Use your style.
2. No typos, you hear me? None.
3. Be professional. Itâs really difficult to get the tone of an e-mail or letter sometimes. Avoid jokes and confusing double meanings.
4. Be respectful. Start with Dear Miss Amman (just an example, by golly, Iâm not an agent!) Most agents donât care if you call them by their first names, but some really hate it. They are professionals and they donât know you. Play it safe.
5. Donât beg. If you donât think your book is awesome, nobody will. (Avoid things like âI have been sickâ âI have fifteen childrenâ âI barely sleepâ âForgive the typosâ).
6. Donât boast. Be confident, but professional. If you have some facts that can help you list them clearly.
7. Donât state the obvious. âI would be glad to provide a full manuscript upon request.â Of course you would be. Finish with âThank you for your timeâ or similar.Essential info to include: the title of your manuscript ALL CAPITALS, the word count (approximate to the closest 5,000), the genre, your signature with your full REAL name, address and phone number.
BEWARE!
-ďťżCheck for specific guidelines on each agentâs webpage! Some will go as far as to tell you what type to use. All will specify if they want a partial with the query (typically the first three chapters pasted in the body of the e-mail).
-Send no attachments unless specifically asked. Itâs the fastest way to the garbage bin. They fear viruses and will never open an e-mail with unsolicited attachments (signatures, files, anything).-Separate your paragraphs, so that your e-mail is not a scary block of text. Happy querying :D
GBA
PSI compiled this and more advice on a free writer guide you can get from my blog. Click here to check it out. No, itâs not a scam. Yes, Iâm a real published author.
I think a big part of why I read way more fanfiction than books is that thereâs just a hell of a lot less exposition
the first 10 pages of most books are always âthese are the main characters and hereâs some background on each of them and this is the setting etc etcâ and itâs such a fucking hassle getting to the plot sometimes
fanfic is just like âfuck it you know all of this already letâs goâ
Thatâs a really good point.
Same here but thereâs actually a point here of well written exposition. Take AUs for example. Even in the most complicated, as-far-removed-from-canon settings we get at most a single paragraph before the actual fic where the author gives us a quick rundown of the rules for that universe. The rest we are left to figure out on our own and it works. Weâre not spoon fed every trivial detail when all we want is to get to the plot. Everything thatâs important is said at the moment it is important, not sooner not later. Especially in long fics characters often take on such a unique characterisation that you get to know them all over again but the readers do so organically, in the situations that define those characters as they happen. Same with looks. The fic author generally assumes the readers know what the characters look like and donât spend paragraphs describing them, and only bring it up when it fits the plot. Iâve read a few fanfics from fandoms Iâve never been in and surprisingly it still worked out. I had generally a good idea of who these people were, what they did where and why and how they worked together. Point is, if youâre a writer writing original fiction, pretend itâs fanfic and everyone knows your setting and characters already. That way youâll only have to add a few details if and when your beta readers mention needing more information and chances are they wonât need a lot.Â

Bolding this fantastic advice.Â

How to make custom lace appliques â the âFrankenlaceâ method
A lot of people asked for more info on how I made the appliques that decorate the bottom of Zeldaâs gown. Hereâs my tutorial for the whole process! This method can be used to make all kinds of applique shapes and designs if you get creative with it.
These lace appliques are made out of other lace â hence the nickname. To get started, youâll need to collect a few lace trims to use as raw material. Look for styles that are similar or complement each other, because youâll be combining them. This is some, but not all, of the trims I used. I bought these in the LA fabric district, but most are available at trimexpoonline.com.
Cut your lace down into smaller pieces that are more modular. Donât cut up ALL your lace â this is just an experimentation stage, to practice rearranging the design.
Using a template of your desired shape (I made mine digitally, but you can hand draw one too) practice arranging your pieces until you find a design that suits your needs. This is not my final design in the picture â I went through several versions before I was totally happy with how it looked. You might discover that you need more lace, which is why planning and experimentation are so important. When youâre satisfied with how it looks, itâs time to start putting it all together.
Youâll need an embroidery hoop large enough to cover your whole template, plus some netting that is as close to transparent as you can find. Most generic tulle is NOT fine enough to do well with this technique â the holes are too large and the tulle stretches too much when handled. Look for netting that does not stretch or fray, if possible. Put some netting in your embroidery hoop, tightening the surface like a drum. I taped my template to a small sheet of masonite to give myself a portable work surface. I also ended up using clamps to hold the embroidery hoop to the masonite, but forgot to get a picture. This is optional, but really helps the design from shifting too much as you work.
Tools for the next step: fabric glue (other brands work too), a small paintbrush, and a water cup. I watered my glue down a little to make it easier to spread with the paintbrush. Be careful not to add TOO much water, or your glue will be too thin, not grip well, and take a long time to dry.
Working in small sections, begin gluing your lace pieces onto the netting. Start at the center and work outward, if possible. Continue until all your lace pieces are glued onto the netting.
Hereâs what mine looked like with all the lace attached! At this point, I flipped the embroidery hoop over and applied a second coat of glue over the entire back of the work. The netting is so thin that you can continue to apply more glue from the backside to get a more secure grip.
Optional: add rhinestones to taste. I used E6000 for this step. Not every applique requires rhinestones, but in this case I wanted Zelda to sparkle as much as possible.
Repeat to create as many appliques as you need! Zelda has 8 along the bottom of her dress. Hereâs part of my assembly line.
When youâre ready to attach the applique to your fashion fabric, trim away some of the netting along the outside, but leave any âinteriorâ portions that help stabilize the design. I simply glued my appliques onto the silk, but I later went back and hand-stitched them down for a more secure hold. After they are properly attached to your fabric, you can VERY CAREFULLY trim away the âinteriorâ pockets of plain netting using small scissors.
The final look of my gown, after all the appliques and trim were attached.
This method is very time consuming and requires a lot of patience and concentration â but I just love the results! I wanted to achieve the look of professionally-made applique, but without access to industrial equipment, this was the next best thing I could come up with.Â
The white-on-white effect is subtle, but matches the look I was going for. Photo by Vontography.
I hope this is helpful to some of you in your own costume projects. Let me know if you have any questions, and good luck!
Beard Tutorial. Because not everyone wants to, or can go on T! (Or maybe youâre just waiting for your âstache to arrive and itâs taking itâs sweet time getting to the party!)
Words to replace said, except this actually helps
I got pretty fed up with looking for words to replace said because they werenât sorted in a way I could easily use/find them for the right time. So I did some myself.
