also the thing about "we need to focus on the people most vulnerable, and transmascs may be vulnerable but not more than trans women!" is that it doesn't consider transmasc erasure as an active force.

its a take from the perspective that trans men are "vulnerable" is some vague abstract generalized way, not in a way which would behoove anyone to adjust their behavior or take action on their behalf. its the erasure of erasure; the assumption is that trans men probably have enough resources and support anyways, which could not be farther from the truth. some local communities may have more transmasc-focused resources, but many others do not. transmasculine people are left out of vital conversations, are excluded from vital resources, are ignored and forgotten when they are abused and killed.

it treats transmasc erasure as something which is passive in itself and which can be solved passively. which is erasure itself in action. i do not really give a fuck about "who has it worse," it is not about that. it is about the fact that if YOU do not make an ACTIVE EFFORT to advocate for transmascs, to make transmasc suffering and oppression visible and legible, it will not happen. it simply will not happen.

erasure is an active force. we all internalize transmasculine erasure and we can all easily contribute to it; we are expected to contribute to it. trans men&mascs cannot afford the model of "well we only need to raise awareness for the most vulnerable" because our vulnerability is defined by being ignored.

this is why unlearning anti transmasculinity has to start from (un)learning erasure. once you start to see it as an active force/tool of the patriarchy you realize it is the lynchpin that holds so much (especially intercommunity) anti-transmasculinity together. transmaculine absence is so normalized people experience our presence as an intrusion, and people genuinely do not understand why we would ever need to be more visible than we are. it is fucking everywhere.

I'm sorry, but as someone who watched the "birthing persons" debacle in real time...

As someone who watched multiple people have their "why I left the left" moment over being asked to include transmascs in medical language...

As someone who watched transmascs be told to "shut the fuck up and quit whining" when asking for it to be called literally anything but "women's healthcare"...

As someone who watched terms like "chestfeeding" be treated as an utter laughingstock, even by "allies..."

As someone who had my cautions that abortion bans paired with corrective rape are tools to forcibly detransition trans men, be met with an accusation that I was the transphobic one for "implying pregnant men aren't men anymore..."

I have lost the ability to actually count anyone outside of the community of activists against transphobia to actually care about reproductive injustice as applied to transmascs, AFAB nonbinary people, and others. If I see a cis woman talking about "transandrodorks," I know immediately that she at best has never considered trans men who need reproductive healthcare, and at worst- and more likely- actively relishes the thought of trans men being denied lifesaving care to punish them for "betraying" womanhood.

i just saw someone say they'd give anything to be hyperinvisible as a trans person, and as a hyperinvisible trans person. that hurts.

i know it was born of a place of pain, so i'm not mad at this person. i know what it's like to wish you were invisible. but the harms of hyperinvisibility are real, and i want to use this as an opportunity to raise awareness.

hyperinvisibility isn't like i just get to go on with my life as the gender i am and no one bothers me. that's what we want as trans people. it's okay to want that, i want it too.

being hyperinvisible means people don't see me as who i am: an intersex, genderfluid, transmasc. it means people see me as a weak, neurotic young woman who looks wrong. it means i carry a constant shame about myself. it means i'm discriminated against and put down all the time. especially since i'm AuDHD and disabled.

hyperinvisibility isn't a privilege, it's a different kind of pain. both hypervisibility and hyperinvisibility lead to trauma, discrimination, and death. we're killed or we kill ourselves - and this includes indirect means like neglect. both are serious and taking trans people out of this world.

i'm tired of the experiences of different trans people being pitted against each other. it is completely fine to be exhausted by hypervisibility or hyperinvisibility. it is completely fine to be scared or angry. it is completely fine to want different, better, safer, calmer.

i'm just begging people to stop looking at the experiences of other trans people as if they're less severely impacted by transphobia and gender-based discrimination. that's not true. and the fact people do this so often when it comes to hyperinvisibility literally just perpetuates that invisibility.

when you're hyperinvisible, it doesn't make you safer. it means people can hurt you, say anything they want to you, do anything they want to you, and no one will know. no one will see. no one will care. and i'm not saying that hypervisibility means you get support - you dont - i'm just a hyperinvisible trans person so i'm sharing my experience.

neither of these things are good experiences to have. that's all. that's the point. please just remember that. please just care about your trans peers. please just remember we are all facing transphobia, the way that presents is different for each of us, and that is no one's fault but the bigots hurting us.

This is just conversion therapy, just straight up conversion therapy. This is human experimentation trying to "cure" being transgender that the US Government is enacting on captives in federal prisons who do not have the rights to protect themselves and cannot fight back against it. It is utterly inhumane.

Not to mention that black Americans end up disproportionately incarcerated in US prisons and this will certainly be an extension of a long history of the US government committing human experimentation on black lives and bodies.

Alongside this, I need everyone to be very aware that if even a portion of these cases are marked as 'resolved', if the US Gov can manufacture some kind of statistic that these methods "work," it could very well become a mandated policy for treating gender dysphoria across the US. Not just in prisons, but any kind of government custody and potentially in psychiatric inpatient care, and potential extensions beyond that into the life of the general public.

Although what may be most effective would be to make it so that many trans people end up either within government or psychiatric custody, where their rights are directly denied from them in a situation they are defenseless against- just like this. And this will effect firstly those most vulnerable in our population, those impoverished, unhoused, severely mentally ill/disabled, immigrants, and the many black trans americans and other trans people of color who fall into these categories, especially.

But beyond this being a testing ground for broader society, the situation this will/is enacting on trans inmates matters right now and needs to be heard and spoken out against.
