I honestly don't know wether this group will survive, but I love roleplaying this Barry and I will do whatever is possible to keep things active, at least on my side.

OOC: I'm going on vacation!

I’m going on vacation tomorrow for the next week and a half, so I may not be able to roleplay at all while I’m away. 

I’ll be returning on the 29th, ready to be active again, so please send me a message if you reply to any of our current threads, or post an starter for me so I know what I have to do once I return.

I’ll still be able to write some replies today, in between packing and everything, so I’ll do my best to leave no replies pending before I leave!

“I actually do. Now listen here…” he said, as he started  explaining all over again, “Dark types are one of the seventeen types that are …”

He went over the introductory part, explaining everything as best as he could, and then moved on to the other sections, “Alright, now, dark types have strong attack power. But what’s more important is that their moves have secondary effects as well. For example, bite causes flinching and pursuit will ensure a hit even if the pokemon is being called back. Such moves act as a very good strategy while fighting opponents, especially those who have ghost and psychic type pokemon. So the ideal strategy will be if a trainer has ghost and psychic type on his team, you should have a dark type in yours to counter it. Further more, if you have a pokemon who is both ghost type and dark type then the pokemon is virtually immune to all moves as each type fills in the deficient characteristics of the other…”

Resisting the urge to roll his eyes again, Barry just let Cheren ramble on and on about the subject, taking the opportunity to daydream a little before having to return to the torture that was writing his essay. So, the blond went through his team’s move sets, making some mental notes here and there when necessary, remembering that he needed to work with Roselia on the subject of dodging and to take Staraptor on his flight of the day as soon as possible.  

However, when Cheren mentioned a Pokemon that was virtually immune to all types, Barry came back to Earth. “You mean like Spiritomb, right?” He had this kind of conversation before, with Sabrina. That girl had stopped every one of his strategies against Physic Pokemon, saying he’d never be able to find a way to pass through all her defenses and beat her Physic types. But Cheren wasn’t him...

“Is there... a way to beat Physic types? Like... a fool-proof plan?”

Kris quickly ordered Corsola to dodge the attacks, knowing she’d only be able to avoid one. The Water type only just dodged the Mach Punch, wincing as she was hit by the Ice Beam. Kris frowned worriedly, knowing how hard Corsola was working. The Pokémon didn’t want to let her trainer, or Xatu, down, and was trying her best to win the battle. They had to knock Infernape out if they wanted a slightest chance of doing that. “Corsola, another Bubblebeam!”

Infernape, who was already breathing hard from the previous hit, stumbled and fell to one knee when Bubblebeam hit, managing to catch himself at the last moment. Barry tightened his hands into fists, ordering Floatzel to cover him with a Crunch attack while he recovered. The blond grimaced as he watched his Pokemon try to get back to his feet, only to fall again with a wince. His pride wouldn’t let him use another potion, items were supposed to be a support, a good trainer couldn’t depend on them to win a battle. So Barry waited, hoping Infernape would get back to his feet before Floatzel was too tired to protect him.

Xatu flinched when Floatzel’s Crunch attacked his wing, throwing him off. He wavered a little, panting hard as his vision blurred. Kris frowned slightly, grabbing her Pokéball and returning him before he fainted.

“You did really well, Xatu. Rest now, alright?” She smiled, stowing it away before turning back to Corsola. With Xatu out, she had to take down Infernape now if she stood any chance of winning. “Dodge, Corsola!” The Water type rolled to the side, firing another Bubblebeam at Infernape.

As Infernape flinched and took a couple of steps back from the hit, Barry’s mind started running. If Infernape fainted and Floatzel had to take out Corsola by herself, it would take far too long, and the Water type would probably be exhausted before the end of the battle. So basically, he had to protect Infernape while still managing to use one of his attacks because Floatzel didn’t have anything that would make much damage to Corsola. With a sigh, Barry ordered Floatzel to use Ice Beam while instructing Infernape to use Match Punch again.

It took a while Cheren to fully understand what the blond had said, not because he couldn’t understand the request, but more that couldn’t understand how someone could ever utter something so severely stupid. Was the boy ok in the head? Was there some permanent defect that caused him to speak such things?

“Do you realize what you are saying?” Cheren asked, barely managing to keep his irritation in check, “Did you really think I would agree? And as much as I want to get rid of you, I do not want to achieve that by using these means. Now look here, I’ll explain this one last time and be sure to listen well.”

With a sigh, the blond nodded, fighting to keep his eyes open. The library always made him a little sleepy, unless he was interested in what he was doing, and homework wasn’t one of those things. Having Cheren bothering him didn’t help much, either. Barry ran his eyes over the library, most students were also working on their assignments, but they were probably making more progress than him.

“You know this won’t go anywhere soon, right?” Barry rolled his eyes at Cheren, the boy should just give up and let him solve this, if he hasn’t been caught before, he won’t be now. “You don’t have the patience to teach me, I don’t have the patience to listen.”

“Corsola, stop that Ice Beam!” Kris quickly ordered, watching the little Water type use Bubblebeam. The warmer water hit the Ice Beam, managing to hold it back long enough for Xatu to get back to Kris. She quickly gave him an Aspear Berry, sighing in relief as the ice slowly started melting off his wing. Turning back, Xatu shook the water and ice shards off, wincing slightly. “Be careful, okay?” Kris called, grinning a little as he nodded. “Use Aerial Ace on Infernape!” Xatu took to the air again, slower this time, before he aimed at Infernape, gathering speed.

“Floatzel, protect him with Crunch!” The Water type had a better chance at beating Xatu, and Barry was hoping they would get lucky and manage to freeze the bird again or at least flinch with the next attack. Floatzel approached Xatu from the side, trying to catch the offending wing with her fangs while avoiding the hit. Meanwhile, Infernape ran towards Corsola. He began charging power into his fist, preparing a Match Punch attack, and once he was near enough, he swung his arm with all his power. 

Barry tapped his feet again, this time in impatience, and glared at Kris across the training field. This girl wasn’t supposed to last this long, even with the type advantage she had against Infernape.

Volkner yawned and cracked a smile, “I think the point of tutoring is so that I can help you.” He said a little cheekily. So a third year, huh. Volkner didn’t really have ‘junior’ year friends, they were kind of just there to him. Though he certainly looked a lot younger than 14… 

“The main thing you should know about Electric types…” He started lazily, “is that they’re Speed and Special Attack stats are generally pretty high.” It really didn’t take a genius to figure that out, electric Pokemon are similar to Electricity itself. Their speed and power was what Volkner liked about them -they could finish battles in a blink of an eye. He started thinking of all the different kinds of Electric Pokemon there were, his mind drifting off a bit. As a child, he thought about catching them all and raising them to be strong and powerful -much like his current team- though once he enrolled into Tajiri, somehow his dream wasn’t so important anymore. Volkner’s head jolted a bit as he came back to Earth, hearing all the chattering of the students around them. He tended to drift off quite a lot… His teachers sometimes scolded him for doing so. 

“What do you want to ask, I have pretty much all the time in the world.” Well, that was a lie, but he did have quite a bit of free time. He’d challenge the young boy for a battle, so maybe he could learn a thing or two like that. But that wasn’t too fair since Volkner was a Seventh Year afterall… He shrugged off.

The boy sighed as he leaned back to look at the sky, “I just need to find a Pokemon that’ll help balance my team.” With a shrug, he added, “I don’t even know if an Electric type will help, I just need... something good.”

The issue had been bothering him for a while. Barry knew his current team was strong, and while he managed to cover most of their weaknesses with their attacks, he didn’t want to take any chances. He knew it was what everyone wanted at the start of their journey, to be the best trainer ever. Of course, after a few months of traveling and training, some decided to go down another path, like contests or specializing in just one type. But Barry didn’t want that, his father had always said that a good trainer had to have enough knowledge to beat anyone, no matter who they were or what type of Pokemon they trained.

Besides, he only had four Pokemon in his team, there was so much room for improvement, and he was wasting it! Barry ran a hand through his hair, murmuring the type weaknesses his team had for what felt the millionth time. With a frustrated sigh, he dropped his head on his hands, massaging his temples, feeling a headache forming.

Seeing the blonde’s lack of ability to reach the book he wanted amused Silver. More so that he was inadequate in something when Barry was trying to (lamely) insult him. Silver didn’t even attempt to hide the mocking chuckle that escaped him. Was that glare Barry just threw supposed to be threatening? Menacing? It was hardly either of those.

“Hmph.” With a smug smirk, Silver sidestepped around Barry and his makeshift tower, reaching up and pulling out the book he apparently sought from the shelf with ease. Silver was taller than Barry, obviously, and was using this opportunity to show that and bully him at the same time. In a tamed manner, of course. There wasn’t much he could really do in the library besides taunt.

Holding the book in a dark gloved hand, Silver quirked a maroon eyebrow at the shorter blonde. “Were you trying to get this?” He flipped it over, glancing at the spine and tapped it with the back of his hands with an unimpressed look. “Can someone like you even comprehend reading material?”

It took a moment for Barry to notice the book wasn’t on the bookshelf anymore, once his brain registered that it was currently on Silver’s hand, the boy face-palmed in his mind again. With an annoyed sigh, Barry climbed down, coming to stand in front of Silver, looking up at him.

Seeing the older boy now, he could understand why most students stayed away from the redhead, but Barry was just too stubborn to just walk away. Instead, he planted himself, touching the poke balls attached to his belt, relieved to know he had backup, in case something went wrong. Of course, Barry was sure that old woman would probably ban him permanently from the library if he got into a fight here. 

“Yes, I understand it.” With a sneer, the blond added, “Probably better than you, anyway.” With that, he quickly extended a hand to try to take the book, trying to get it back while it was still within his reach.

Even though the Future Sight hit, Kris frowned slightly when she saw Infernape get back up, visibly weakened but not enough. She would need Xatu to finish him off, but in this state, the Flying type wouldn’t be doing much good. Kris knew she had a few berries in her bag, one of which would heal his frozen wing. He just needed to get away from Floatzel long enough to eat it.

“Xatu, push Floatzel away with Night Shade!” Kris quickly ordered, watching the bird conjure up a beam of dark energy, shooting it at Floatzel’s Ice Beam and causing the two to collide.

As this was going on, Kris looked over at Corsola, quickly instructing her to block the attack. Holding up her own hands, which were admittedly tiny in comparison to Infernape’s, she dug her feet into the ground as the hit connected, managing to take away a small amount of damage. “Use Bubblebeam!” Tightly holding onto Infernape’s hand, she let out a huge torrent of bubbles at the Pokémon.

After Bubblebeam hit, Barry was sure he had to use a potion, or Infernape would be out of the fight with one more hit. So, as his Pokemon stumbled back from the hit, he whistled, two shorts and one long, indicating him to retreat and to Floatzel to cover him. Once the Fire type was near, Barry took out a small bottle out of his bag, spraying the potion over the wound on his Pokemon’s side and torso. “Geez Infernape, be more careful next time, ok?” The monkey just nodded, wincing a little when the liquid took effect and started closing his wounds, before rushing back to battle, still sore but feeling much better. 

Floatzel didn’t seem to have much trouble, doing a better job at ignoring the pain. Barry chuckled, his Pokemon was far too proud to lose to an opponent who had a weakness against her. Floatzel, thinking her trainer was still busy and couldn’t give any orders, attacked on her own accord, firing another beam of ice towards the retreating bird.

Kris winced as Xatu turned his frozen wing to Floatzel’s attack, trying to minimise damage done to his uninjured wing. He tried to shake the Water type off as Kris looked over at Corsola, quickly ordering her to get away when Infernape emerged from the ground. The Pokémon did her best to dodge, still taking quite a bit of damage. Things weren’t looking good for Kris’ team, but she grinned slightly as she and Xatu looked up, watching a small sparkle before a beam of light fired from the sky right at Infernape, the Future Sight from Xatu earlier activating.

The blond was glad he didn’t need to order his Pokemon to dodge, they did it as soon as they saw an attack coming their way, and as long as it was possible, they quickly moved aside to try to make the attack miss. This strategy helped them reduce the damage taken, making his Pokemon last longer in battle. The problem came when the attack they needed to dodge was a gigantic beam of light.

Future Sight hit Infernape on the side, making him stumble for a bit and fall to one knee before catching himself. Barry could see that he had taken a lot of damage, and mentally praised his Pokemon for being able to stand an attack he had a weakness to. Infernape glanced back over his shoulder, silently asking what to do next. The boy briefly considered using a potion, give his Pokemon a bit of relief from the pain he was in, but seeing how thing s were going, it’d be best for them to finish this battle quickly, Xatu wouldn’t last long with an injured wing and then their only problem would be Corsola, and with Floatzel they wouldn’t have much trouble.

Making Infernape use Match Punch on Corsola, Barry looked at the other side of the training field, grinning when he saw that Floatzel was still holding on. “Use Ice Beam again!” The Water type released Xatu from her fangs, and almost as soon as she did, Floatzel released a beam of frozen energy directed to the body of the bird.

Kris frowned slightly when she noticed Barry tapping his foot. Is he using his foot to send signals to his Infernape? However, she couldn’t think about it for long, quickly instructing Xatu to use his Psychic abilities to try and find Infernape. She knew it would be a long shot, depending on how deep in the ground the Pokémon was, but she had to do something before turning her attention back to Corsola. Her eyes widened when Barry ordered an Ice Beam, knowing it would do serious damage.

“Corsola, block it with your own Ice Beam!” Kris quickly ordered. However, with the Water type’s lack of speed, she knew she wouldn’t be able to make it in time. Hopping as quickly as she could, she aimed an Ice Beam at Floatzel’s attack, taking away a bit of the power. Unfortunately, the brunt of the attack still hit Xatu, who gave out a cry of pain as he was pushed back. Wincing, his and Kris’ eyes widened when they saw his already injured wing frozen.

Barry allowed himself to grin, tapping one last message into the ground before giving Floatzel his full attention. The Water type was doing good, ignoring most of the cuts but Barry could see that, since her back was hurt, most of her movements were painful and required a big effort. But with Xatu’s wing frozen, he had a better chance to take out the bird, and since he presented a big threat for Infernape, the blond had to do it fast.

“Floatzel, use Crunch!” It took a moment for the Water type to react, but once she did, she reached Xatu’s side almost instantly. Taking the advantage that the bird couldn’t move one of his wings, Floatzel approached him from that side, launching herself at Xatu, fangs ready to attack. Almost at the same time, Infernape came out of the ground, right in front of Corsola, trying to hit her from below.

“Floatzel’s too close, Corsola can’t dodge it completely.” Kris muttered, watching the Pokémon. “Corsola, brace yourself!” The Water type nodded, digging her feet into the ground as the attack hit, skidding back but keeping up. Kris grinned when she saw Corsola had held onto Floatzel, exactly as she wanted. “Now use Spike Cannon!” The tips of her spines started glowing, several spikes flying out towards Floatzel.

Kris looked over at Xatu, seeing Infernape coming in with Shadow Claw. “Xatu, look out!” The bird’s eyes snapped open as he finished Future Sight, spotting the Fire type far too close for comfort. On his trainer’s command, he created a Light Screen, wincing as the attack scraped his wing. Quickly moving back, he shook his feathers, standing up straight again. Kris frowned slightly when she noticed Xatu holding his wing differently. “Of course… Psychics have a weakness to Ghost types.” Looking at the Infernape, she quickly instructed Xatu to use Aerial Ace, watching the bird take to the skies, his wings glowing white as he rushed at Infernape.

Barry grimaced, he had forgotten Corsola was half Rock type, and a Normal attack wasn’t going to do much. Considering Floatzel was most likely to have a hard time taking down Corsola, given her attacks, it was time to change strategies. The blond quickly looked towards Infernape, noticing Aerial Ace coming towards his Pokemon, and couldn’t help but frown. This girl knew how to exploit type advantages.

“Use Dig!” Infernape quickly started his attack, avoiding most of the damage of the Aerial Ace, except a scratch on one of his legs, which was most likely to slow him down a bit. Once Infernape was under the ground, Barry started tapping his foot again, this time with an uneven rhythm and taking breaks every once in a while before starting again.

By now, Floatzel was trying to avoid the spikes that were flying towards her, jumping around, wincing at the cuts Spike Cannon left had but never taking her eyes off Corsola. “Now use Ice Beam on Xatu!” Grateful to have something to take her mind off the pain, Floatzel started to run, closing distance between the bird before opening her mouth and shooting a steady beam of energy to try to freeze him.

Cheren cursed himself for being a bit too observant as he noticed Barry eyeing the computer. He was well aware of the consequences of whatever Barry was thinking.  Now he could just pretend he never saw. But, to Cheren, resorting to something like cheating for an article that simple, simply made no sense at all. And thus, for the umpteenth time, Cheren sighed.

  “You’re really hopeless aren’t you?” said Cheren, shifting his spectacles a bit higher, “Gimme that book.” he said, taking the book and flipping through the pages, coming to the page he wanted, “What don’t you get in this? Just ask me your queries already. I will not watch someone marching towards a detention just because of a stupid article.”

The blond just sighed as he let Cheren flip through the book. "It's not that I don't understand, I just don't know what to write." Assigments like this were always hard for Barry, who needed something to do or he'd lose interest easily. Tell him to battle against a trainer specialized in Dark types? Sure, he could do it. Because battling didn't include sitting down and doing nothing more than write and write.

A sudden thought crossed Barry's mind, and the boy didn't even think before asking the question. "How much would I have to pay you to write the essay for me?" Barry shrugged, realizing Cheren would probably say no, no matter what. "That way you'll get rid of me quicker."

Sleepless Nights || Red & Barry

Red raised an eyebrow at the younger boy, again a little taken aback by his energy and enthusiasm. It wasn’t bad it was just… different. His Pikachu perched on his shoulder seemed to chuckle at his antics. It wasn’t as if Red didn’t have his own conversations and arguments with his pokémon. In fact, his own Charizard liked to be huffy with him and ignore him at times. He had been burned many a time by Char. “…Must be something about fire Pokémon…” He muttered to himself, lost in thought. He made a mental note to go research the typical personalities of fire Pokémon before turning his attention back to the blond.

He blinked again at the other’s enthusiasm, nodding as he grinned at him, shaking his hand up and down. He finally got a name after all. Pikachu offered a hello in return. “…Not a problem. I’m Red.” He broke his stoic expression with a half smile, “…I know the feeling.” Once he dropped his hand, Red stuffed his hands into his pockets once again and walked along with Barry to the kitchen. “We should be a little careful though… I’ve had plenty of experiences with teachers catching me at this hour…” He looked around as he said that, making sure the coast was clear. Once they made it to the kitchen, Red peeked inside first before nodding for Barry to follow him. “…Looks like they left everything open this time.”

Once Red told him no one was around, the blond saw no problem with just walking in. The kitchen was big and empty, with a metal table in the middle full of food, but the real prize stood at the back. Barry rushed to the fridge, ignoring everything else in the world was he took out multiple ingredients. Noticing the bread was already out, the blond spread out the food on the table, and as he prepared himself a sandwich, Barry remembered that Red was also in the room. It was easy for the blond to forget that the older boy was around when he was so quiet all the time.

"You don't talk much, do you?" 

Silence wasn't usual for the blond, he was used to have someone or something making noise, so the empty kitchen didn't make Barry feel at home like the busy cafeteria always did. Normally, he'd let out his team to keep him company, but knowing Red was there, and still wouldn't talk, didn't give Barry much confidence. The boy just shrugged as he finished making his special sandwich. Looking around and not finding any chairs, he just sat down on the table, happily munching on his snack as he waited for Red to answer him.

“Wow! Those are some really cool Pokémon you’ve got!” Kris grinned, looking at the Infernape and Floatzel. She quickly pulled out her Pokédex from her bag, recording their data. “I’ve never seen them before. Guess they’re native to where you’re from!” She chuckled as she reached into her bag, pulling out the two Pokéballs from before. Glancing at the Pokémon Barry had released, she nodded at her choice. Grinning, she released Xatu and Corsola out onto the training field, the Water type happily hopping about at the prospect of a battle while the bird merely ruffled his feathers slightly, never taking his eyes off the opponent. It was an odd pairing up, Kris had to admit. They got along well enough during their time together, and they both worked hard with each other. Kris just wanted to test them out in an actual battle. She had faith in her Pokémon that they’d do their best and wouldn’t let her down.

After grinning at her Corsola, who was busy waving furiously at her trainer to get her attention, Kris looked up at Barry, nodding. “How polite. I’m not much of a lady when it comes to battling though. Okay Xatu, Future Sight and Corsola, Bubblebeam!” The Water type nodded, jumping into the air and releasing a torrent of bubbles straight at the Pokémon while Xatu closed his eyes, using his psychic powers to predict an attack in the future.

Barry quickly took in the stream of bubbles that were approaching his Pokemon, who were waiting for his instructions. "Floatel, use Quick Attack on Corsola!" 

He saw how Infernape took a step back, bracing himself for the attack. Luckily, Floatzel was quicker. The Water type rushed forward, making the point of running through the bubbles, taking the hit head on, not even blinking at the damage she took. Floatzel smirked as she sped up, now having Corsola up near and prepared herself to tackle her opponent.

Meanwhile, Infernape was also running, although at a slower pace. The giant monkey was specialized in close combat, so distance wouldn't help much in his case. Barry saw his chance when he noticed that Xatu was distracted, the bird still focused on his attack, so he ordered his next attack. He didn't know who'd be hit by the Future Sight, so he needed to take out Xatu, and quickly. "Use Shadow Claw!" 

While Infernape was still a few feet away, he brought his right arm back, concentrating just enough to make his fist glow with dark energy. Once he was close enough, Infernape swung his arm at Xatu's face, bringing his other arm up to block any tricks the bird might try.
