“You’re not mine, Mel. “ Eric reminded her, and himself. Not anymore, at least. Not for the time being. And until he’d figure things out, he would somehow have to deal with that.
Sure, he already have his own schemes in the making, turning the gears inside of his brain – but Melanie didn’t need to know about that. She still didn’t deserve to.
Eyebrow arched when she mentioned catching the attention of other people and then his face soon fell when she mentioned the king. THE FUCKING KING.
“Melanie, please tell me you are not pissing off the King.”
That, by no means, was a good idea. Though, what with the rebellious stroke to the wolf, Eric assumed that it was precisely what she was doing – he also assumed she got a certain kick out of it – but the price she could potentially end up paying quite worried the vampire.
The amount of effort to avoid rolling her eyes was quite a bit more than she had expected. She didn’t need the reminder that she now found herself at the mercy of an island hellbent on doing whatever they pleased with her. Freedom. The one thing she’d always desired just stripped away from her as if it were nothing.
And she’d suffer it until someone decided otherwise.
But Eric’s next words had Melanie looking everywhere but at him. She wasn’t intentionally pissing off the King. Really, was it her fault that he’d decided to pay any attention to her? He could have picked any of the other slaves to spend his time with. Granted, she had made her entrance to the island very well known.
“So what if I ruffle a few of his feathers? Someone slapped the king title on him and it clearly all went to his head. And for the record, I didn’t even do anything to start. I just bit a few guards and next thing I knew, he was outside my door.”
She shrugged a shoulder as if it wasn’t a big deal. “I’m sure he’ll grow tired of me soon enough.”
