Having learned about and lived alongside supernatural creatures his whole life, he knew how strong pack bonds could get and how strong they were naturally. Leaving his family surely was easy as he can no supernatural pull to them, nothing keeping him beholden to them. And wolves were social creatures, being alone was more difficult for them. He couldnât imagine what it would be like for her to leave her pack and as badly as heâd wanted her to, he knew it would be useless to ask anymore. If she hadnât already, she never would.
âNo,â he admitted. âThereâs a wolf there, but heâs probably off sulking somewhere.â Had he been in a better mood he would have laughed. Lovell was such a sourpuss. âI justâŠI still feel like I donât even know where I am or even what this place is. And I feel like,â Sam trailed off as he headed out of the shop. âI feel like I only know part of you. I want to know moreâŠâ
Sam was wrong that Lillian didnât want to. She was simply scared to. If she left them and stayed with Sam, even if they were never chased, Sam would eventually die and sheâd be alone again. While wolves werenât immortal, their lives were longer than that of a human. Could she sit there and watch him wither away and die while she remained youthful looking? Constantly moving from place to place so no one questioned them? What would she even do for work? Those were the thoughts that constantly raced through her mind.
âAh...it must be hard for him,â she murmured softly. She was afraid to end up like the wolf slaves. There was no hiding that. âI mean, you donât. And Iâm not sure you really want to know this place. Thereâs a lot of darkness to it.â A lot of darkness that she tried to ignore. A look of surprise came over her face as he mentioned he wanted to know her better and she couldnât help but smile. âI promise thereâs not much more to me, but Iâll tell you whatever you want.â
