Simone sized up the male, wondering WHAT exactly had just entered her shop. Was he aware who he was talking to ? He had to have, right ? “ Just general occult books, that’s all ? “ she said slowly, still wary. Then Simone nodded to an area of the store. “ The most basic books regarding that will be over there. Feel free to browse. “ Though hopefully not for TOO long. “ May I ask what sparks your interest ? “
“That’s all,” he replies, somewhat innocently. He did have a general curiosity, but he had always been somewhat suspicious of other species. He follows her gaze to the part of the book store she recommends and when she asks what sparks his interest, he pauses to think. “I suppose you could say morbid curiosity. Witches are some of the most recognised supernatural creatures in the world. What’s not to find fascinating?” Surely, given the bookstore, the woman is some kind of species herself. “How long have you owned this place?”

and when she realizes it’s him , it’s a sliver of relief in her eyes as she glances over lsyander’s form . “ it may have slipped my mind in the moment . ” and she can remember how scared she felt ; she hadn’t felt that way since she was human , so helpless , almost innocent . and she lets her hand find his , a squeeze that lets her actions speak more than her lack of words . she was never a poet . “ but a reminder is always valued . i might have to retrieve a part of myself i buried a long time ago . ” similar to what he was describing , if a bit older . “ poor venezia may be painted red once again . ” by our hands , is left out , but still implied .
“Never forget it again.” To anyone else, such words would normally be a threat. But to her, the syllables slip from his tongue as soft as satin, the admiration and adoration in his tone almost palpable. “We both will, yes. But it will be worth it. They should know, they need to know, touching our kind is forbidden. Whoever it is will learn soon enough.” He lifts a hand and caresses her cheek, glad that she got out alive, though he still regrets that she even got hurt in the first place. “I wish I could have... I wish I had been there. This shouldn’t have happened to you.” He would take the pain for her ten thousand times over if he could.

“ I hate to break it to you, but we’re just about to CLOSE. “ Simone appeared behind the counter, almost out of thin air. Normally she didn’t mind letting customers stay for however long they needed, but after sitting in the shop for a few hours without seeing a single customer, the witch was ready to just close up and go home to a nice bottle of wine. “ Is there something in particular I could help you find ? “
“I see. I apologise.” He doesn’t wish to hold the woman up, but he does feel a brief pang of disappointment. A book or two (or three, given he didn’t sleep often) were going to be his entertainment for the next twenty-four hours. “I... not something in particular, more just... general introductions to the occult. I find my knowledge in regards to witches is quite limited.” And he can’t deny he is suspicious of other supernatural creatures, mostly wishing to see if they would be capable of what had occurred in Venice not long ago.

“ i am going to kill every single last one of them . ” it’s a few days after the initial attack , and she’s MOSTLY healed up by this point ( there’s perhaps some aches here and there , as well as a surprising amount of bruising that she’ll keep covered properly until fully healed ) . “ i’ll find them and do it single handedly if i have to . ” it’s practically a growl that escapes her lips , rosalynn is clearly not in the best of moods .
“You won’t have to do it single-handedly, my love. Remember what I promised? I will be by your side. Always.” Always. Such a big word, especially for someone who could potentially live forever, but since meeting her the prospect of forever has seemed a little less terrifying. The tragedy that had occurred recently had only made his affection for her more intense, and he found himself feeling fiercely protective of her. He would not lose someone else. “In my first life, I was given a sword to fight. Now I have my teeth, strength, and a near insatiable bloodlust. I will help you find the things that did this. They will pay.”

Cassius chuckles. “ You’re right about that, ” he nods slowly. Being alive for thousands of years means being faced with more death and tragedy than one knows what to do with; it makes sense how some vampires get desensitized over time over the whole thing. Cassius had never been that type of man. A smile plays on his lips at the change of subject, much appreciated. “ I work in law, “ he tells the other man, taking a sip of his drink. “ For a long time I worked closer in the community, helping plant the foundations in law and government practices – I did a lot of that here, while New York was still new. But it’s been almost two centuries now since retiring and moving on to my own law firm, though naturally the names have changed over the years. “ A weak laugh escapes him. “ I suppose many people try out different careers in their lifetime, but I never found anything that kept me so enamored. — I believe Rosamie told me you’re a translator ? “
With Cassius’s years of experience and intimate understanding of the world, he is sure he would make a great lawyer. If Lysander was ever in need of legal counsel, he would make sure Cassius was his very first call. “Noble work,” he says, and he means it. He remembers a time when people’s version of justice was brutal and inconsistent, so he does admire anyone in the field. “What’s your speciality? I mean—I’m sure you are an expert at it all, considering how long you have lived, but does your firm focus on anything in particular?” He nods when Cassius asks about his own career. “An ancient text translator, yes. I work at Columbia University Press. The truth is I didn’t work for many decades. Instead, I had my own coven in Paris that I put all my energy into. It was pleasant for a time, not having to work given how much money I had accumulated. But after a while, it does get... boring. Isolating, even.”

it’s not until these moments that olympia realizes that she doesn’t actually know her father. she knows him through the eyes of a starry eyed eight year old and in the eyes of a grieving widow. she also knew him through the eyes of the people he fought beside him until he ‘ died ‘. olympia didn’t actually know him and it was … surreal to think about. he died when she was so young , they had barely gotten the chance to know each other back then. it wasn’t fair. she shouldn’t have been told what her father was like by the people who knew him – he should have been there.
“ we wouldn’t have cared what you were , “ it only made her sad to hear about how he had watched her grow up from afar. she wonders if she would have left like she did if she knew that he was alive. or maybe it wouldn’t have changed anything. she had been a rebellious teenager back then - a perfect child but an overly emotional woman who couldn’t accept her mother’s denial of the only thing she wanted ; a life with the boy she loved. but it also made her sad for her father - what did he think of himself back then if he wouldn’t even walk up to their family and let them think that he was dead ? how alone he must have been. there was also a bit of anger that she kept burying. she had spent so long alone , scared & doing things she wasn’t proud of. her father had been alive this entire time.
“ two thousand years is a long time … “ hazel eyes ( she got them from her mother ) glance at the couch and nodded , moving to sit. there was so much they had to catch up on … so much that olympia had buried thousands of years ago in hopes of moving forward. the loss of a child and her husband , specifically. she hated the story of her being turned , it wasn’t glorious or heroic. it was painful. she could still remember how much pain she was in prior to being turned and simply wanting everything to end. and when asked , she usually lied , she hated going into the details of everything. it hurt too much.
“ mother … she didn’t support us. “ olympia’s not sure if her father knew about the boy she fell in love with and then ran away with because nobody approved of it. which was understandable , he wasn’t from sparta. he was an enemy , technically. they were ancient greece version of romeo and juliet. “ so we left and ended up in corone. “ for a moment her eyes light up as she thinks about their small home by the water. it was a dream and now it was a bittersweet memory. and just as quickly , her eyes grow sad as she thinks about the horrific ending. “ my … my midwife turned me. “ here was so much said in those few words but also so much left unsaid.
—We wouldn’t have cared what you were.
Lysander nods his head twice and closes his eyes. It is a painful truth. After all his children had died, he had returned to his wife and she had begged him to end her misery. He was a monster, after all, he could do it. But he did not. He is not sure what would have been crueller. To kill someone he had loved once; the mother of his children, someone who had once been stronger than even him, or to let someone live on and suffer having lost everything. He thinks about it sometimes, and when she died ten years after their encounter, he gave her a proper burial. It was the least she deserved. Their family story was a tragic one and given his condition he could not even play the role of grieving husband or father. He did in his own way, but not the Spartan way. He would have gladly died on the battlefield with his sons. Life (or was it death?) had different plans.
And now, when his daughter looks at him, all he can see is her mother. It almost makes him want to say sorry to his wife, the memories pulling on his brain. “It is,” he agrees with her statement. “I... you look so much like her. Your mother, I mean. I see you were given her strength, too, Though you always were more wilful than she would have liked...” He smiles fondly at the memories of them trying to discipline and train their emotional daughter. “I used to abhor emotion; I saw it as a weakness. Then I had you and your brothers, and I knew that what I felt for you was what made me strong. I had something to fight for, to die for, even. Somehow I still lost you all.” He wants to say that if he could go back, he would have changed them all, but he knows that his decision at the time was what he believed in. He had his reasons, even if he regrets them now.
When she confirms that his wife hadn’t supported Olympia’s love, he is not surprised. He had gathered as much from what he had seen at the time. Corone was beautiful, and he is glad she found a home there. And then—his heart breaks at her words. Her midwife turned her, of all things. A moment in a person’s life that is meant to bring life and joy, and she had instead found eternal suffering. “My sweet girl...” he mutters, finding her hand and squeezing it. “I am so sorry. That must have been very difficult for you. To not only lose a child, but to be changed... you must have suffered a great deal. What became of your husband?”

she’s held herself back long enough , she thinks . days in the office , and at late ? nights with the council , any spare time going to family or employees , or the occasional hookup . rosamie’s truly always been ON , for the longest amount of time . it is , of course , with good reason - but she’s starting to realize that she can take things just because she likes them ( and they like her back ) . a part of her didn’t even realize what the two of them were doing , before he’s suddenly her date to the gala and she’s already far too deep to pull back now . “ new york was always where i’ve belonged , i think . but even with this whole city in the palm of my hand , nothing ever did quite added up to my expectations . and — ” a pause , she’s not lying , and her own vulnerability shocks her for a moment . “ i want you ; here , by my side - and i at yours . it sounds … nice ? ” and with his lips on hers , she’ll grin against them , letting go of his hand to move both her hands to the lapels of his jacket and pulling him in closer . “ and i am most certainly not against that , either . ”
“Whatever this thing is that is plaguing the city, it will have to get through us first.” And he means that. Rosamie is the oldest vampire he knows with skills of her own, and he is old and a skilled fighter. Anyone who came between them and the people they cared for would have hell to pay. When her hands touch his chest, he smiles into the kiss. Feeling happy is a foreign feeling, but he is feeling it now intensely. It’s... nice, as if his heart is no longer vacant. He has a reason to live again. He wants to touch her more, to kiss her endlessly, but eventually, he does pull away. There are things she needs to know, especially since their relationship is progressing. “There is something I should tell you,” he begins, gazing at her face and thinking for a moment. It is not easy to talk about old wounds. “You know I lost someone—I have implied enough. But I want to tell you more... because I think you should know. I have not talked about it to anyone, mostly because I have not trusted anyone until I met you.”

Cassius’ eyes lifted up at the sound of the voice, a tired laugh escaping him at Lysander’s words. “ Of course, yes, “ he nodded to the empty chair, letting his drink shift from one hand to the other on the table, before bringing it to his lips for a sip. Though the vampire had come there to be alone, Cas wasn’t upset to see the other man. In fact, after the way he embarrassed himself at the gala, he figured he could use a do-over. “ How have you been ? “ Cas asked him, eyes flickering up. “ Other than the ominous threat of death among us. “
He takes the seat, reaching forward briefly to place his wine glass on the table between them. He supposes Cassius, being involved as he is with the council, has his own worries and actions to take in regard to the tragedy at the gala. Lysander, on the other hand, is a casual bystander and newcomer to town, with little to no impact on the actions they would take in response. Maybe Cassius could use a break from all the talk of death and disaster. In fact, Lysander would quite like to gain another friend out of this, so perhaps the depressing talk can be kept between Cassius and the council. “Oh, well—as vampires we must always feel that, in some way.” He smirks. “I’ve been well. My work has been keeping me adequately busy and I’ve met more people in the last month than in hundred years before it. There are so many fascinating people in this city. Yourself, included. I meant to ask—what is it that you do for work?”

sometimes , she can still be a woman of her times , and it shows even now : here , with a man she obviously trusts and cares for , in her own apartment . though her body doesn’t demand it , she does swallow , eyes focused in on his . “ perspective , it’s something i need sometimes . thank you , lysander . perhaps this could be … bigger than i initially thought . i forget sometimes , what it’s like . ” and she does mean ALL of it : to care so deeply for someone romantically , to potentially lose anyone she cares for , how to be scared . and yet he pulls away , and all those REMINDERS come flooding in , along with this … school girl giddiness from such an interaction . “ i want you to know , i do feel the same . ” will glance at their hands , lace their fingers together before looking up , smile quirking the corner of her lips . “ i perhaps may not be so eloquent as you but … i don’t think i knew i was looking for you until i met you . it’s been centuries since i felt this way about someone . ”
He’s not sure the exact message he had intended to get across in regard to the event at the gala, but she seems to understand his intentions sure enough. Maybe, above all else, he had just wanted her to know that he would be there through it all: even if the worst happened. And she did know that now, and that was enough for him. When she says she feels the same, he feels... light, almost. He would not have held it against her in any capacity if her feelings were different, but the fact that she does makes him elated. He feels relief, too. After all, it’s been almost two hundred years since he has needed to flirt or pursue anyone, but apparently, he’s not as rusty as he originally thought. “If I’m being honest, I never thought I would feel this way about anyone again. New York was a gamble for me, America never was my favourite destination, but I think... this is where I need to be. Here, with you, by your side. I was not born to believe in destiny but us being brought together might have changed my mind.” He looks down at their hands. “I think I need to kiss you again, actually...” He says with a brief chuckle before he leans forward, kissing her more fervently than before, his other hand moving to rest on her hip.
criiedpower·:
he looks almost … pained to sit here , to talk to her . and she knows THAT can’t be it , so brows will furrow with confusion . for a woman so smart , it seemed that some things ? still slipped right over her head . rosamie stays quiet , for she knows that right now is the moment to listen , even if she may not agree what comes from his lips : she knows how to have a conversation about topics . “ you’re correct , i’ve been well known for handling myself and the people i care for . ” she never pressed for details , but understood enough that whatever happened in lysander’s past ? was a tragedy that takes centuries to get over . she’ll cross her own fingers , humming . “ so you think this is something we might not be able to handle . a warning . ” rosamie says we and means the council , but the rest of the supernatural too . and then the vampire will pause , eyes lock on the other : a confession . she supposes she should say something in return , but anything she could use words for is said in her sliding her hand to the back of his neck , pulling him in closer - and letting slight words slip from her lips . “ i’m listening . ”
“Yes—I know. That is part of why I admire you so much,” he says, his voice filled with nothing but sincerity. He thinks for a moment. He was, overall, not entirely sure what to make of the event that had happened, but he knows that it makes him feel uneasy. And it is not easy to make a vampire, let alone one that had been born Spartan, uneasy. “A warning, yes. I fear we may not know or understand enough until it is too late. And I want you to know—I wish to be by your side through it all. In fact, I wish to be... with you... no matter what.” He swallows. When he pulls away from their kiss, he cannot help but smile. He hadn’t ever expected to feel this feeling again—butterflies would probably be the most accurate description. “I have met kings, demigods, conquerors, revolutionaries—no one ever quite like you. You floor me, Rosamie. And I cannot deny the feelings that I have for you.” He finds her hand and squeezes it gently, a small act of intimacy. “I need you to know that even if you do not feel the same, you will always have my loyalty.”

olympia had lived with the fact that her father had died in battle when she was a child. as did her brothers. she mourned. she watched from afar as her mother mourned , unsure on how to help her. she still wasn’t sure if she could help her after losing so much. things weren’t the same after they lost most of their family. olympia had closed in on herself. she shut down. she’d soon come out of that shell of hers - but their relationship was accepted … so she fled.
she doesn’t expect the necklace to be the thing that makes him realize that she’s … OLYMPIA. he didn’t believe her before about the present she gave him so why would he believe this ? she was prepared to walk right past him and never come back and bury that hope that she felt in her chest upon realizing that her father might be alive , afterall.
she was wrong.
“ it’s me … πατέρας. “ ( father ) olympia felt like crying. but she also felt like smiling. crying and smiling. she had always been the more soft and emotional one out of her siblings. she had never been the textbook definition of a spartan child. her emotions are a huge reason why being a vampire was still such a struggle for her.
olympia hugs him for the first time in two thousand plus years. something finally felt right. “ πέθανες , “ ( you died. ) it had been so long since she had spoken her native tongue and yet it flowed as if she had never stopped speaking it. “ we mourned … you. “
Hearing her say that—πατέρας, father. It is somehow familiar and foreign at the same time and, above all else, it fills him with a strange form of relief. His daughter hadn’t disappeared and died a horrific and tragic death. Some could argue that her fate as a monster, like him, was worse—but at this moment, he does not care what she is, he only cares that she is alive. He doesn’t want to let go of her or pull away, he has an irrational fear that if he does, she will disappear again and he will be left broken-hearted—again. But he does, eventually. Slowly, ever so slowly, he pulls back, his hands gripping gently onto the side of her arms as he examines her face. He has so many questions but he does not know where to begin. Thousands of empires have risen and fallen (including their own), countless kings and queens died—so much has happened since they had last seen each other. Given how young she had been when he left, he wonders how much she even remembers of him. Enough, he figures, given that she had recognised him and even sought him out in the first place. He regrets that they did not get more time together when they both had been human.
He nods, closing his eyes for a brief second. Yes—he died on the battlefield, but he had also been reborn that very same day as something different. Something stronger. “I watched you, Olympia... from a distance. I could not bear to show you all what I had become. I see now that I made a mistake.” He swallows. He glances over at the couch and nods towards it. “Please, will you sit? We have much to talk about...” He moves over to the door and closes it, including the blinds, giving them both the privacy they deserve. When he is finished, he moves over to the couch and sits. “Tell me... where did you go? I looked for you everywhere and when I couldn’t find you, I thought you must have died... I... who turned you?”

“I suppose you have much to think about after all that has happened. It’s understandable why you may need a drink—or ten.” He smiles at Cassius, the bar quieter than he thought it would be given it is a Friday night. He was only planning on having a glass of wine before heading home for the night, but after seeing Cassius sitting there alone, he decides that he wishes to get to know the man better. “May I sit?” He asks, gesturing toward the seat across from him.

hands will run through her hair , big curls turning into loose waves as she closes the door behind him . late night visitors are usually gone by this point , not just arriving . but she suppose lysander changed things , made her a bit more open , a bit softer . “ – come . ” she’ll take his hand , leading him to the couch as she sits on it , and pulls just enough to tell him to sit down next to her . simple intimacy , if only the situation was different . she has a feeling he didn’t come for PILLOW TALK , as the kids call it . “ thank you . it’s nothing like my other properties across seas , but … home is home . ” dark eyes will take in those gorgeous hues she’s found herself thinking about , searching as he speaks . “ no . i mean - i don’t think so . it was chaotic , but don’t know if i’m afraid . ” yet . “ it hasn’t reached the top of my list … made you realize what , lysander ? ”
He follows her to the couch and when he sits, rests his elbow on his knee, his hand placed idly over his mouth. He can’t help but stare at her, the softness in his eyes making it obvious enough that he is smiling even though his lips are covered. “I should like to see them one day.” He removes his hand and clasps his fingers together. He knows dozens of languages but now, with someone as wondrous as her before him, he seems to forget them all. “I’m afraid,” he begins, then shakes his head, “No—I should be more specific. I’m not afraid for myself. For you, rather, though you are perhaps more capable than anyone I know of protecting yourself and the ones you love. But you already know—I lost someone I care for deeply before. And when I saw what happened the other night, I realised that if anything were to happen to you, I would be lost again.” He pauses, furrowing his eyebrows. “And that there was something I forgot to do that night.” His eyes trace over her face and, gently and ever so slowly, he lifts his arm in order to brush some stray hairs behind her ears. When he finally locks eyes with her, he leans forward and kisses her. Unafraid, unapologetic. He is enamoured with her—it was high time that she knew.

Leon is certainly not someone who takes issue with accepting blame and fault. If anything, he accepts it too readily, undeservedly. Even in the cases where he feels he was not the problem (this one, for example) he can’t deny that, over the last couple thousands of years, he has managed to keep very few friends and rack up enemies through sheer, out-dated reputation alone. Many of the most powerful vampires in this city are no fan of his but it feels futile to try rectifying that now, even if they all have thousands of years left. Somehow he doubts Earth will stand the test of time. “I have to admit, that surprises me.” Not that he likes to admit it, but in many regards, Leon finds humans endlessly fascinating. The speed with which they change, with such a short life ahead of them, the seemingly insignificant things that consume most of their thoughts. Life was much simpler when he was one of them. “I envy them. Their guilt is rarely deserved.” Although he and Bellamy don’t speak much, or at all, their relationship isn’t fraught, at least not from where he’s standing. Still, he can’t help the annoyance at the question. “You think I’d still be with the same person 2,000 years later?” Not that anyone has ever come close to taking his ex’s place. “He lives here, actually. He’s taken up with the Lallemant family.” Leon didn’t have much respect for New York’s council, but at least with people like that, Bellamy would never be alone.
He rolls his eyes. Perhaps, above all, it would always be their petty differences that would keep them at a distance. It wasn’t as if he was expecting to mend his relationship with Leon, as far as he’s concerned that ship had long sailed away, but then again, who knew? Until ten minutes ago he hadn’t even cared to realise that the bastard was still alive and kicking. Maybe in the back of his mind he knew—they were alike in many ways, and people like them didn’t die so easily. Not just because of their affliction, but because there was something to be said of a warrior’s blood. “You would,” he sighs as if it the most boring fact he has ever heard. “The world’s most dull vampire, you really should try and be a little more flashy. Your face is handsome, it’s the personality I could never quite get on board with.” He stands up now, closing his book and putting it beneath his left arm. He examines him as he talks about his former lover—he didn’t exactly care to know about the boy, he mostly wanted to see Leon’s reaction. He keeps his head high, given the fact Leon has a couple of inches on him, and he doesn’t hide his disdain. “I would have been with my husband until the end times, but life had other plans. Funny... I always thought I was the one who had no proper sense of devotion.” He holds out his hand now, not so much to signify a truce but rather to simply acknowledge that they would be living in the same city from now on. “I bid you farewell, old friend. And if you ever wish to talk to someone about the old days... perhaps your ex-boyfriend will care enough to listen.”
