well, it's been about thirty seconds, past due time for everything to go straight to hell.
(this is the one where I just went 'fuck it, I'm doing whatever I want whether it makes sense or not' so uhhh here's hoping it, y'know. is remotely comprehensible. ( ᐛ ) I apologize if this absolutely does not come across outside my own head, there was a lot of stuff I was trying to get in there, so hopefully it works!)
(but I mean, c'mon, there's no way it was gonna end well with these two)

riddle rosehearts: academic rivals to lovers
Riddle actively despises you while being intrigued by your intellect.
You’re always on his heels, frustratingly so. Your grades are often as high, and in some cases, better, than his, and Riddle can’t stand not being the most perfect. That’s all he was ever raised to be, and he had never met someone who surpassed him. Who challenged him.
The thing that irked him the most, is that to others, you put on a humble front. Downplaying your successes as mere luck. But to Riddle, you’d put on that annoying smirk, show him your test with a 100 circled at the top, and stick out your tongue. Taunting him. Baiting him to react. And react he did.
“l/n, I propose a competition,” Riddle confronts you after class once the majority of people have left. You smirk, crossing your arms across your chest.
“Oh? And what’s in it for me, Rosehearts?”
“Whoever scores highest on the midterms in two weeks gets to ask the loser for any favor, within reason of course,” Riddle says. “We’ll average the grades together from each test, and the highest score wins.”
Thoroughly amused by the offer, you agree. “Very well, Rosehearts. I accept but do know, I don’t intend to lose.”
“Neither do I.”
Thus, began the intense competition.
Over the next couple of weeks Riddle was on edge, studying long hours on top of his already busy schedule as Housewarden. He’d spend hours in the library with his textbooks, taking notes, reworking problems, and reviewing his lessons. Everything he could to ensure that he knew his information forwards and backwards.
One night, as he was getting ready to leave the library in time for curfew, Riddle noticed the light on still in one of the study rooms. Curiously, he approached the door, peeking in the window where he surprisingly finds you, hunched over the desk. Your books were spread across the table with a few empty cups of coffee. The early hints of dark circles hung under your eyes from clear exhaustion, and it seemed to Riddle that you’d keel over and fall asleep any moment.
The thing that surprised Riddle the most was the look of frustration on your face. Your eyes furrowed as you scribbled something out on a piece of paper before ultimately tearing the sheet out of the notebook and tossing it in the bin.
What could possible have you so irked? Riddle wondered.
You’re startled by a knock on the study room door. You’re even more startled to see Riddle Rosehearts with his backpack and textbooks.
“What do you want?” You asked, trying to mask a yawn.
Riddle cleared his throat. “It’s after ten. The library will close soon.”
“Ah…it seems so…” you say somewhat bashfully after looking at your phone. You begin trying to gather your belongings, dropping some stray papers in the process. Riddle bends down to help. One particular paper catches his eye: it’s a test of yours. And in the corner is a bright red F. Before Riddle could say anything, you snatch the test from him, cheeks flaring.
“Go on-“ you mutter.
“What?” Riddle questions.
“Make fun of me. I know you want to. The perfect Y/n L/n failed their alchemy test. That they’re not so great as they portray themselves to be because they can’t pass simple science.”
Riddle’s face burned in anger and embarrassment. His retort gets lost on the tip of his tongue seeing your defeated expression. The way you pouted, tucking your hair behind your ear nervously waiting for his response, crumbling the test beneath your grasp.
You looked strangely…cute?
“What is it you don’t understand?” Riddle asked.
“Huh?”
“The test?” He repeated with a sigh. He pulls up a second chair to the desk and takes a seat. “What is it that you didn’t understand? Maybe I can help.”
Your eyes widened slightly but you don’t say anything as you sit next to him, cheeks slightly red. Time seems to fly effortlessly, just the two of you in the study room going over Crewel’s alchemy lessons and notes. Riddle strangely feels at ease in your presence. And despite your little rivalry, he realizes that he actually enjoys your presence.
You’re witty. Clever. Charming. Though you struggle with science, you excel in other subjects, giving Riddle tips he hadn’t even considered. You guys both get so lost in each others company that you don’t realize it’s after 12 until the ghost librarian kicks you both out.
“Thank you for your help tonight, Rosehearts,” you say softly as you both walk back to the Hall of Mirrors. “You didn’t have to.”
“I-it was nothing,” Riddle brushes off your compliment. “As Housewarden, it’s my responsibility to make sure all students succeed-“
You cut him off by kissing his cheek.
Riddle’s brain short circuits.
You giggle as his face turns as red as hair. “Good luck tomorrow on your midterm, Rosehearts. Do know, just because you helped me doesn’t mean I don’t intend to still win our little bet.”
Riddle smiles. “I’d be insulted if you didn’t try.”
You wave him off, but before you disappear into the mirror, you turn back and say, “best believe I will be victorious. And if I win, you have to take me out on a date.”
“Very well.”
But regardless of who won or lost, Riddle was going to take you out anyway.
leona kingscholar: grumpy x sunshine
Many people question how a grumpy lion like Leona, who seemingly cares little about others, ended up with a literal ball of sunshine like yourself.
You two were complete opposites. You were friendly and social while your boyfriend nearly bit the head off of anyone who disturbed him. Well, except you of course.
Don’t get it twisted. Leona worships the ground you walk on. He’d do anything to make you happy, even if he doesn’t want to, but that special treatment only extends to you and no one else.
“Thanks for helping me carry everything, Ruggie,” you say graciously. You had run into the hyena on your way to the spell drive field. There would be a match between NRC and RSA, and as the team manager, you had to help set up the field for the team to practice. But taking several trips back and forth to carry all the equipment was taking too much time and effort.
“It’s no problem. Can’t believe you were planning on juggling everything by yourself,” Ruggie scoffs. “Ya know, Leona-san would have my head if you got hurt.”
“What? No way. Leona’s not like that. He’s so nice.”
“Yeah. To you.” Either you were hopelessly oblivious, or Leona was just that nice to you that you didn’t even notice how moody he could get. Ruggie could make a miles long list of all the ways Leona gave you the Princess treatment while everyone else got the short end of the stick.
Example A: You were the only one that could wake him from his naps. Ruggie found it easier to have you go fetch him, because he’d be more willing to come without complaint if it was you coaxing him to come to practice or class.
Example B: Leona always exuded subtle protection over you, whether that be keeping an arm around you or letting you wear his clothes to have his scent. Sometimes, you smell so much like him that the other beastmen steer clear, not that you ever notice.
Example C: His attention to subtle details about you. Leona tends to be the type of person that doesn’t care about others’ opinions or pay much attention to them. But you are the clear exception. your needs always come first even at the expense of his. Leona once skipped out a week of class because you had the flu. Ruggie was annoyed, because he was the one that had to bring all of his missing work to the dorm for him to complete.
The list goes on and on and on.
“I think Leona’s just misunderstood,” you tell Ruggie. “He’s not the big scary lion everyone thinks he is. I think if more people tried to get to know him for who he is, they’d realize he’s actually really sweet.”
Ruggie sighs. “Y/n-san, you’re just too nice for this world.”
You both arrive at the field where some of the team members have begun warming up. Amongst the group, you immediately spot Leona in the middle, directing the first years on the drills. His ears twitch as you approach. The male looks up, sees you carrying clearly heavier than you can handle spell drive equipment, and is immediately at your side to take it.
“Leonaaaa I had it handled,” you whined.
“I don’t care.”
“Come on! Just let me help.”
“No.”
Leona walks off, ignoring your protests, even raising the bag of discs over his head to keep you from taking them back. A grin spreads across his face when your lips settle into an annoyed pout. Bending down, he quickly pecked your lips. You pause, stuttering something incoherent as your face flushes.
“I know you could handle a little heavy lifting but you don’t have to when I’m here, herbivore,” Leona says gently. “Just sit back and look pretty while you let me take care of it, okay?”
“O-okay…” you mumble, cheeks still feeling hot. Especially now since the rest of the team were watching you both with amused expressions.
“Leona-senpai, do we get a break too?” One of the first years asked, more teasing than anything. But still, everyone was hopeful that the Captain would lighten up, especially since his beloved partner was present. Instantly, Leona’s demeanor changes, a scowl replacing the gentle tenderness he regarded you with.
“Not a chance in hell,” he snaps. “Get your asses moving or else I’m doubling the regiment.”
There were a chorus of groans as the team begrudgingly gathers the equipment you brought and takes to the field for warmups. Leona gives you one last kiss.
“It’s too hot. Mind holding this for me?”He then takes off his jacket and wraps it around your shoulders. Faint hints of his cologne lingers on the fabric, making your chest warm. You smile, watching him mount his broom in one fluid motion before he heads to the field.
“See, I told you,” Ruggie sighs, crossing his arms. “Special treatment.”
azul ashengrotto: :childhood friends
You two met in elementary school. He was the shy awkward kid and you were a friendly mer who talked to everyone. As a kid, you tended to ask a lot of questions and Azul unfortunately fell victim to your curiosity.
Kind of like with the Leech twins, he couldn’t necessarily get you to go away, so Azul just accepted that you wouldn’t be going anywhere. However, over time he grew to love your personality presence
Your relationship is equally parts he’s completely smitten with you and you’ve seen him at his worst and therefore are no longer allowed to leave
Mostro Lounge was in chaos.
Not the everything is burning to hell type of chaos but the intense sense of stress emitting from Azul had every employee on edge. Much to everyone’s confusion, Azul had instructed for everyone to clean the Lounge thoroughly, set out the best decorations, and prepare the menu’s top dishes.
All he had said was that a VIP customer would be dining at the Lounge at 6 pm.
“Mannn Azul’s more bossy than usual,” Floyd complained. “What’s the point of doing all this for one measly customer?”
“Perhaps this person is of great importance to Azul,” Jade suggested. “Though I can’t imagine who it would be to get him so worked up.”
When you arrived, dressed up nicely in business-like attire, it all makes sense.
“N/n-chan! Long time no see!” Floyd cheers, squeezing you in a hug that nearly puts your back out and leaves you breathless. You wheeze out that it was nice to see him again when he finally releases you. Jade is more cordial, giving a polite nod.
“I was under the impression that you were attending school in the Coral Sea?” Jade questioned.
“I do,” you answer, “but our school is visiting Sage Island for the week for the upcoming culture exchange. So I let Azul know I’d be in town. Is he around? He told me to come here?”
The two brothers exchanged a wordless, mischievous look.
“We shall go let him know of your arrival,” Jade said. “Take a seat anywhere and someone will be with you shortly.” The two slink off, oddly eager.
You do as instructed and true to his word, one of the other employees comes to take your drink order. While you wait, you mindlessly scroll through your magicam, like photos sporadically or watching videos.
Jade and Floyd find Azul in his office. He was frantic, more so than usual, muttering to himself and pacing around the room. For a guy that always portrayed himself to be a cool, levelheaded businessman, it was jarring to see him so frazzled.
“Nee Azul, ya know N/n-chan’s here,” Floyd said boredly. “They’re waiting in the Lounge.”
“What?! Why didn’t you tell me they were here already?!” Azul panicked.
“Well, in our defense, we did not know that Y/n was your special guest,” Jade replied albeit a bit smugly.
Running a hand through his hair, Azul quickly exited his office in search of you. He could feel his heart rate pick up the closer he drew to the main dinning area. The restaurant was relatively busy since it was a Friday night, but he was able to spot you instantly amongst the crowd. He was always able to you. There was something about you that just made you…different from the rest. It had been that way since you were kids and the first time he had met you.
“Is that pot comfortable or something, because it looks kinda cramped…” you had found him in the octopot, his small little sanctuary in one of the art rooms that mer rarely frequented. Imagine his surprised seeing a baby faced, (favorite color) scaled tail mer peering at him.
“Go away!” Azul shouted, covering his face. “H-how did you find me?”
You ignored his yells, holding out your hand. “You looked lonely today during class. I figured you could use a buddy.”
Although he tried, Azul could never fully get rid of you. You tried to include him in everything and when other students would oppose to him joining, you’d simply ignore them and spend time with Azul instead. At first he wouldn’t admit it, but your presence grew on him and he looked forward to spending time together. Even when the Black Carriage came and Azul had to leave the Coral Sea to attend Night Raven College, you two managed to keep in touch and keep that friendship alive.
“Azu-chan!” You exclaimed the moment you looked up and saw him. “Long time no see!”
“Y-yeah…” Azul cleared his throat and tried to ignore the heat creeping across his cheek when you smiled at him. “I’m glad to see you’re doing well. How have things been back at home?”
Like old times, as if no time had passed between the last time you met, you and Azul fall into easy conversations talking about anything and nothing at all. Old memories. Inside jokes. Life updates. Talking with you comes as natural as breathing, for Azul, and he would never get enough of it.
“Oh! I have some exciting news,” You say. “My school has approved the culture exchange program to continue fostering community between the merfolk and land dwellers. I will be attending NRC for a year as an exchange student.”
“Really?! Why didn’t you tell me this sooner?”
“Well…this kind of news you have to tell the person you love in person rather than over text,” you say. Realizing what you just said, heat warms your ears and you quickly tried to correct yourself. “I-I mean big news is more sincere if you tell someone directly. And y-you’re important to me so I wanted to make sure that while I was here, you found out about it from me instead of a third party and oh sevens I’m embarrassing myself aren’t I?”
Azul chuckled. Then, he burst out into full blown laughter. Your shoulders released their tension and relaxed. “The sentiment is mutual,” Azul admits, nervously running a hand through his hair. An awkward smile on his face. “I look forward to having you here for the next year.”
You smiled back. “As do I.”
kalim al asim: golden retriever boyfriend
This was an obvious given. This boy is pure sunshine and the world’s sweetest boyfriend
His love language is all of them. He showers you with gifts and cuddles. He is the prince of words of affirmation because he’s just genuinely being nice. Always doing acts of service and wanting to spend quality time with you
He can overdo it a bit sometimes. But this boy genuinely has so much love for you it can’t be measured
Fights rarely occur with Kalim if at all. It’s so hard to get mad at someone as sweet as him. And if he feels like he’s wronged you in anyway, he’s desperately trying to fix it.
You don't even remember how the argument started. In hindsight, it was probably small and not even worth the blow up it caused. But harsh words were thrown, which left your simmering in anger and frustration at the situation rather than at Kalim.
“Kalim, I just need some space for a minute,” you said exasperatedly. “It’s nothing against you, but I can’t think when you’re constantly hovering over me.”
“Oh I see..” Kalim said quietly, his chest feeling tight. He maintained his sweet smile the best he could. “I will be here when you need me.”
Wordlessly you walked off, leaving him alone in the hallways.
Everyone in the dorm noticed the shift in mood the longer you wouldn’t talk to Kalim. It was subtle at first. Less parties. Less music. Less spontaneous ideas of his. It started to become borderline pitiful seeing Kalim’s personality do a complete 180. He was mopey, like a sad puppy and it put a damper on things. After a week of this behavior, it was becoming unbearable to watch anymore.
“Kalim, why don’t you just make up with Y/n already?” Jamil sighed, finding the Housewarden slumped over the couch staring off into space but checking his phone every few minutes as if he were waiting for a text from you.
“They said they needed space…I wanted to respect that.”
"Maybe you should extend the olive branch first."
Kalim shook his head. "No. I don't want to upset them even more."
You then stopped showing up to class. The first day Kalim fought the urge to call and ask were you okay, perhaps it was just a fluke. But by the third day of you not showing up, he took it upon himself to go quickly visit Ramshackle just to check up on you to be sure. When you didn’t answer the door, he grew worried.
“Maybe they’re out?” Kalim wondered. He knocked one last time before the door opened by one of the Ramshackle ghosts.
“Oh! If it isn’t one of the Scarabia boys! What brings you here?”
“Um…I was wondering if Y/n was okay? They’ve missed a few days of class now.”
Come to find out, you were sick with the flu. You had been delirious with a fever and hadn’t responded to messages from anyone cause you were so out of it. A pang of guilt ate at Kalim for not checking on you sooner.
He quickly made a run to Sam’s store and bought up all (albeit a bit too much) of things he thought you’d need: medicine, food, water, heating pad, ice pack, first aid kit and whatever else he thought would help. Kalim stayed by your side, doing his best to help nurse you back to health.
It was hours after you took the fever reducer that you finally started to come too. Your head still pounded with a slight migraine, but it wasn’t as bad as earlier. On your nightstand there was an uneaten bowl of soup and a bottle of water. Hanging off the side of your bed, sitting uncomfortably slumped asleep over was Kalim.
You felt your chest constrict. “Kalim.” You gently shake him. “Hey wake up. You’re going to hurt your back like that. Geez, how long have you been like this?" He mumbles incoherently before sitting up groggily.
“Y-y/n?” His eyes widen. He quickly backs up and starts gathering his things. “A-ah I’m sorry! I’ll leave-“
“Don’t!” You grab his hand. “I’m sorry for being mad at you. I was wrong.” You sigh, avoiding eye contact out of nervous habit. “I shouldn't have said those things knowing that you were only trying to help. But thank you for taking care of me. So please stay.”
Kalim’s eyes welled up with tears and he’s suddenly tackling you with a hug. “Waahhh Y/n I’m sorry! I’ll never do it again! I love you!” He hugged you so tightly that you could barely breathe, let alone pry away from his grasp. "When you get better, we have to throw a party to celebrate!" Eventually, you relent and relax into his embrace, which arguably, you had missed.
You sighed, trying to mask a smile. “I love you too you dork.”
vil schoenheit: celebrity falls in love with fan
Vil always said he’d never date a fan. He was a professional that barely had time for relationships itself, and he knew how insane fans could be. So he made it a point to not date one. Well, you were the exception
He honestly didn’t really know that you were a fan when he first met. You were actually internally freaking out but tried to keep your composure to not seem like a weirdo. It sorta worked. You also sorta embarrassed yourself but Vil found it charming.
You probably secretly run a fan page (which he most definitely knows about), but Vil loves how dedicated of a fan he you are. You’re his number one supporter
It was late by the time Vil came back to the dorms.
You had messaged him earlier asking if it were okay to crash in his room to which he had no objections. He had a promotional shoot for an upcoming perfume collab, so he expected to be home well into the night. Vil figured by then you’d be long fast asleep and made efforts to enter the room quietly so not as to disturb you.
The lights were off as to be expected. Leaving his shoes and coat by the door, Vil was thoroughly surprised to round the corner and see you still wide awake.
One of your blankets was wrapped around your shoulders as you sat hunched over in the bed with your laptop in front of you. The screen cast the room in a shadow of light, bright enough for Vil to see the face mask still stuck to your skin and the clear exhaustion on your features.
It was nearly one in the morning! Why were you still up?!
Vil sighs, feeling a headache settle in. But before he could say anything, he hears his voice come through your laptop.
“Whenever I take on a role, I want to make sure I’m remembered embodying the persona beautifully and elegantly. Even if it’s not the original role I desired, I still want to ensure I’m authentic in my performance.”
That came from one of his interviews. Vil remembered it specifically. It was from an interview he did with Neige to promote their new film, and despite being cast in the dreaded villain role, Vil tried to remain professional and hide his disappointment. That interview was burned into his memory, but the next line that came wasn’t Neige’s overly cheerful response about working with him, but Vil speaking again about skincare.
“New Azure’s Daily Moisturizer hydrates skin for an elegant and youthful look-“
“If you want to create a truly stunning combination, the dark fabric on the dress pairs perfectly with the bright blue of the fur coat-“
“Rouge Couture mascara provides long lasting-“
Your giggles could be heard over the computer’s audio, your gaze glued to screen with a goofy grin on your face. A smile tugged at Vil’s lips before he could stop it. Were you just watching compilation videos of him?
The next audio clip was another random interview that Vil couldn’t even remember doing. He found it odd that you were so happy and content watching little snippets of him in his professional life. Then again…the sentiment was truly endearing and showed how much you really supported his career.
“Ohh I should repost this photo here from the recent Red Carpet event….” You talk to yourself, scrolling through your phone quickly. Your eyes suddenly widen. “Wait! But he looks so good in his recent commercial too! Sevens…too many decisions. What should I do?”
“Personally, I’m not a fan of the angle they chose for the red carpet,” Vil says, leaning over your shoulder to better see your screen. Letting out a startled scream, you quickly shut your laptop and nearly fall out off the bed as you try to distance yourself from your boyfriend.
“V-Vil?! W-when did you get back? How long have you been standing there?” You stammered, feeling your face warm from embarrassment. Sevens you looked like a total dork. You had forgotten about the face mask, which had dried out considerably by now. Your messy hair had been pulled back by your rabbit eared headband which perfectly matched the fuzzy pajamas you wore. Needless to say day you looked like a couch potato.
“Not too long,” Vil responded. “Enough to know that you apparently like watching old interviews of me.”
“T-that’s…” you avoided eye contact, wishing you could disappear to save yourself from more mortification. Of course your boyfriend just had to catch you being a complete and utter fan over him like a nerd.
Vil sighed. He sat down next to you on the bed and opened back up your laptop. It turned on to the paused video on YouTube: Best of Vil Schoenheit pt. 3. “Honestly, if you’re going to drool over me, make sure your posture is at least correct. It hurts my back just looking at you hunched over like that.”
“Huh?”
“Which one are you watching this time? I’m surprised at this point you haven’t just made your own.”
“This one captures your side profile the best!” You exclaimed. “And I loved the commercial you did with Rogue Couture the most because the made sure to use Midnight Purple for your eyeshadow because it matches your complexion way more than Evening Purple and I will not accept any criticisms on this take. And then-“
Without meaning to, Vil begins to laugh. You quickly shut up, feeling your face blaze, but he grabs your hands and kisses your knuckles. “Please don’t stop. I love seeing how passionate you get over things like this. I’m grateful to know that you’re always my number one fan in all that I do. I hope that I can equally continue to support you on your endeavors.”
idia shroud: forced proximity
Idia is a shut in that tries to avoid interactions with people and so the only way to get him to potentially fall for someone is by putting him in a situation where he cannot avoid said interaction
He definitely tries for sure to avoid you but you always manage to find him. You think it’s funny and almost treat it like a game
It takes a while for him to open up and the relationship is a work in progress. But your patience and care are appreciated
Game over flashed in bright red letters on the screen. Idia groaned in annoyance and threw his controller on to the bed.
"This level is so stupidly hard. Do they not want anyone to beat it?" He had been playing this particular game for hours. A new release in a franchise he enjoyed, but compared to previous versions, this one seemed unnecessarily difficult. Sometimes stupidly so. Idia prided himself on being a bit of a game pro, so being bested by a mere level was irritating him more than he would like to admit.
"One more time. After this, I'm going to look through the online servers for a cheat," Idia told himself, picking up the controller. But before he could restart, his bedroom door was kicked open.
"Idia Shroud!"
The long haired male pales, body tensing. He could feel your presence approach before you were even directly behind his chair. Nervously he looked over his shoulder to be met with your furious expression.
"Y-Y/n-ssi-"
"Shroud! You were supposed to meet me at the main lab for today's meeting over the next blueprints for the Cerberos System! Care to explain to me why you skipped out?"
Right...there was a meeting. Idia glanced over to the clock on his system and realized it was hours ago. Ever since you joined Styx as the new intern, you had been a pain in the ass. You were a stickler about time, dates, and meetings, so Idia couldn't slack off on his work like he usually would. Otherwise, you'd come find him, no matter where he hid.
It was annoying.
"You know, as the future director of Styx, you need to pay attention to your schedules better. Otherwise, how else will you-"
All of a sudden, red alarms began blaring through the room. The door to Idia's room automatically shut, and there was a distinct click. The sound startled you, making you jump and trip over Idia's seat, falling into his lap. Instantly, the both of your faces turned red, his hair blazing bright pink.
"S-sorry!" You quickly stood and smoothed down your uniform.
Idia cleared his throat, trying to steady his heart beat. "I'll com Ortho to see what happened."
It was a breech. A couple Phantoms escaped Tartarus during one of the routine checks and so therefore, the entire building was on lock down until further notice. A quick check of the door confirmed that you were in fact locked inside. Great.
Just Idia's luck. He just had to be stuck in his room with you of all people. Glancing over at you, you seemed to be frazzled. You paced the room, anxiously bitting a your finger nails muttering about the Phantoms and how "this couldn't be happening." Idia then felt a bit bad. You looked genuinely afraid.
"Um, Y/n-ssi," Idia tentatively called. You stopped your pacing. "It seems like we'll be here for a while, so why don't we play a game to take our minds off it."
You give him an odd look. "A game?"
Idia spent the next couple hours teaching you how to play the console games, most of which you were pretty bad at. But your competitiveness refused to let you quit, and once you finally beat him at a racing game at the last second, the pure look of joy on your face was something he wish he could've taken a picture of.
Okay. So maybe your company wasn't that terrible. You were surprisingly easy to talk to and you shared some common interests. Plus, gaming with a player 2 wasn't so bad all the time. In fact, it was pretty nice.
Three hours passed before you both realized, and the lock down lifted. The door opened automatically, and there was an announcement over the PA that it was safe to resume normal activities.
"Oh, a shame. We have to go back to work now..." You say with a pout. You put the controller back on to the dock and stand with a stretch. "I have to run to a meeting."
"Oh..." Idia mumbled, feeling disappointed that your time together was ending.
But..." You sheepishly smiled at Idia. "If your schedule permits, I have time for dinner and a rematch at 7."
Enthusiastically, Idia nodded, before feeling his face flush. Was he coming across as too excited? He cleared his throat. "7 it is."
You smiled before making your leave. "Don't be late, Shroud."
malleus draconia: arranged marriage
A prince and an arranged marriage. Cliche, no? His grandmother arranged for him to marry you, the eldest child of a prominent councilman in Briar Valley, a marriage that would hopefully benefit both families
Neither of you were particularly thrilled about the arrangement, but you both remained cordial for the sake of your respective families
Somewhere along the way, amidst the fake dates and chivalrous courting, genuine feelings developed and the thought of marriage didn't sound too bad
It was late.
You should've been retired to your chambers by now, but your racing thoughts kept you awake. So, although it was indecent hours, you snuck out of your room and decided to stroll through the gardens.
The garden was one of your favorite spots of your soon-to-be new home at the palace. It contained a wide variety of native and foreign floral life with beautiful architecture bringing the place to life. You had taken a few strolls here with your husband-to-be to get to know each other better, which is how you found out about his passion for gargoyles. He explained to you all the details of each one in the garden, which was not only interesting, but charming. It was cute to see Malleus be so passionate about something.
Thinking about him made your heart ache.
Your wedding was just shy of three weeks. Nervous was an understatement. You would be marrying Malleus Draconia of all people. Your engagement had been short, so you don't even feel like you know everything about him yet, but in the time you have spent together, you grew to enjoy his company. He was polite, giving you gifts of jewelry and clothes. He partook in your hobbies and encouraged you to finish your studies. He still kept a respectable distance, refusing to share a bed with you until you were properly married, and respecting you boundaries.
Overall, Malleus would be the perfect husband. But the marriage was arranged, and you weren't sure how much of his actions were for the sake of appearances or if he genuinely felt any affection for you. The thought made your heart ache.
"Beloved, what are you doing out here so late?" Someone spoke, startling you. Malleus emerged from the darkness like a prince of Shadow, looking all the more handsome even in his casual clothing.
"I couldn't sleep," you answer honestly. "I take it you couldn't as well?"
"You would be correct..." Malleus frowned. "When I saw you from my bed chambers, I was curious were you'd be setting off too so late into the night."
"Just wanted to think..." you took a seat on one of the garden benches and motion for him to do the same. He does, putting space between the two of you, which makes you frown. "Malleus, do you want to marry me?" You ask.
Malleus looks surprised by your question, head tilting curiously. "What brought this on?"
“It was our family’s idea for this marriage. We’re just doing what they asked of us. I know I’m probably not your first choice for a spouse, and I would completely understand if you didn’t want to go through with the marriage.”
“What gave you the impression that I did not want to marry you?”
Now you were surprised. “A-all the courting and the gifts. I thought you were just doing all that because you had to keep up appearances.”
Malleus frowned. “I will admit, when my grandmother brought the topic up I wasn’t the most thrilled. I felt like an arranged marriage was an outdated concept.” He then scoots closer to you on the bench, reaching out to tuck a loose stand of hair behind your ear. “But I did not want to judge someone so unfairly when they were also thrown into the same situation as me. I gave you those gifts because they were things you said you liked or reminded me of you. I wanted to get to know you as my future partner. Never once have my intentions been on the pretense of our marriage being arranged.”
Your face feels warm as Malleus presses a kiss to your temple then, another on your knuckle where you had yet to taken off your engagement ring for the night. He had never been so affectionate to you before.
"To be honest, I was worried that you would resent me for tying you down to a marriage you didn't want," you admit, nervously laughing. "No one has treated me with such kindness, and I really didn't want it to be fake."
"Our marriage may have started by unconventional means, but my love for you will always be genuine," Malleus assures. "You will be my partner and always my equal. This I promise to you."
