this is my selfshipping/selfinsert blog! i'm kind of quiet so idk how much i'll be posting in these tags but.

on this blog i'll be posting about:

my f/o <3 my ocs positive selfshipping posts that kinda thing :) i dont want to put anything in maintags for my f/os source very often (from this blog anyhow) but i am doing for this post in the hopes of connecting with other selfshippers for this fandom!! everyone else please feel free to block me if you dont want to see!

Fandom: Fields of Mistria Characters: Balor, Maitiu (OC) Pairing type: Established relationship (ocxcanon) Word count: 1089 Summary: Every year, Balor misses the thin window to try a seasonal baked good during Mistria's Saturday market. Today is the final time they'll be available this year, and he's not willing to miss out again.

Thanks to years of practice, Balor’s feet didn’t make a sound as he ran back into town.

His wagon was parked in its spot; he was fine to unload everything for the shops later; his horse was stabled back next to the inn.

He was just… late.

There’d been a small rerouting due to rumours of bandits down one pathway in the woods, miles out from Mistria, but thanks to that, he was now an hour behind schedule.

Not usually a problem, but today would be the last Saturday market of the Fall. His last chance for a whole entire year to get one of Darcy’s spiced apple donuts.

And he’d missed it last year, and the year before— Darcy made more than enough for everyone who lived in Mistria, but tourists came by for the market, and now for the museum, or a weekend away… not to mention both Lord Eiland and the children of the Dragonguard usually had two, three, or even four each.

In many cases, Balor’s enemies were money hungry. Willing to lie and cheat and scam their way to the top.

In this case?

His enemies were the town sweet tooths.

And boy, had he lost every battle with them thus far.

He slowed just before he reached the town plaza, and did his best to smooth his hair down and remove any twigs or bits of woodland stuck in it— he’d literally not given himself a moment to stop since he crossed Mistria’s threshold. He’d tossed a sack of oats into his horse’s trough and left her to dine alone.

She understood— at least, Maitiu said she did, in that weirdly sage way he was around animals— and knew that his quest for those damn spiced donuts came first.

With the hope that he now looked like a normal guy, if a little frantic, rather than a feral woodland creature, Balor stepped into the plaza and into the throngs of people.

It being solidly evening now, the crowds were far less dense, so it didn’t take squeezing through groups or past couples to reach Darcy’s stall.

The only patron still there was, of course, Eiland. He was happily chowing down on a big slice of basque cheesecake and chatting with Darcy as she tidied up her stall for the end of market.

“Hello there,” Balor greeted as he strolled over, scanning the glass display for any sign of the donuts, “How’s sales been today?”

“Good,” Darcy smiled, and wiped her hands on a towel before turning her attention to him fully, “Can I get you anything, Balor?”

He did his best to smile in a natural, casual way. One that wouldn’t betray any sort of desperation.

“You… wouldn’t happen to have any of those apple donuts left, would you?”

Darcy’s smile wavered. Then fell. And Balor’s hope died.

“Aw, I’m so sorry…” she sighed, genuine regret in her eyes, “They’re just so popular…”

Inwardly, Balor cried out in anguish. Externally, he simply shrugged.

“Ah… I was too slow once again.” he said, nonchalantly, “Such is supply and demand, I suppose.”

Darcy, kind as her baked goods were sweet, offered him a cup of cocoa on the house. He declined good naturedly; her goods being so popular was hardly something to apologise for, after all, and decided he’d lift his spirits by bothering his partner instead.

He found Maitiu, cornered by the Dragonguard, trying to explain to the kids exactly why he wasn’t going to let them move a group of slugs into his crop fields so that they could raise them.

Though Balor tried to remain stealthy- pressing his finger to his lips as he approached- the children couldn’t help but giggle as they spotted him, and Maitiu whirled around to see Balor sneaking over moments before he arrived by his side.

“Ah!” Maitiu still had the good graces to act surprised, at least, and a smile as bright as Springtime itself bloomed across his face, “Balor! How was your trip? Have you eaten yet?”

Balor shrugged once again, and slung an arm around his partner, “Good. Nice to be back, though.”

Then he sighed, dramatically. Letting his head loll downward.

“Not eaten yet, though. I missed out on Darcy’s Fall donuts. Again.”

Maitiu smiled kindly, though in a way that seemed somewhat ingenuine. There was a sarcastic glimmer in his eyes, as he reached up to pat Balor’s cheek affectionately, “Aw. Poor thing.”

Instead of rising to the faux-patronising, Balor leaned into his partner’s hand and sighed pathetically, “I’m crushed… I have to wait a whole ‘nother year now…”

Maitiu pouted at him sadly, batting his eyes dramatically in the same teasing, fake sympathy, “Aww… would a picnic make you feel better? Just us?”

Balor gazed down at his partner, forcing his lip to wobble, and sniffled exaggeratedly, “Really?”

That was enough to make Maitiu let out a huff of laughter, and he nodded.

With a little less effort than expected, they managed to get the Dragonguard to go hang around with someone else— assigning the kids a “quest” to help Darcy tidy up her stall made them feel helpful, and they liked feeling helpful.

And though Balor was genuinely a little upset about missing out on those spiced donuts once again, he felt a little better as he walked with Maitiu, hand-in-hand to their spot in the deep woods.

And even better when he found Maitiu had already set up the blanket, and had warm pots of rice and coconut curry and bottles of cider ready to go, with them somehow having been left completely alone by the critters of the woods.

When Balor asked how Maitiu had achieved such a feat, he smiled and said something vague about having befriended the woodland animals. Balor knew that was bullshit, and something else was afoot here, but that Maitiu would tell him when he was ready.

And at the end of a delicious, warm meal, accompanied by homemade cider and tales from the road, Balor found himself greeted with one last surprise.

From inside the picnic basket Maitiu had withdrawn the cider from, he now pulled a pair of spiced apple donuts, wrapped in lilac cloth.

“I bought the last two,” he said, with a sheepish smile and a pink tint to his cheeks, “Got’cha!”

“I hate you,” Balor laughed, not meaning it in the slightest, and while he took the donut in one hand, with the other, he pulled his partner close and pressed a kiss to his cheek, “Thank you.”

So see with Hayden, he's just convinced he's at the age where he's probably gonna spend the rest of his life alone

He doesn't want to

but circumstances be as they may-- he's not going to be away from the farm for long, if at all ever, and so he's limited to just the town for dating, there for pickings are a might slim-- he's sort of resigned to being alone

at least in that way

when you have this many friends, both animal and human, you're never really alone!

but when you breezed into town, he promised himself not to get too hopeful or too excited

you're here for your own reasons, not for him

not to mention you're your own person, regardless of if you become his spouse or not

he really is jumping straight to marriage at this point honestly

but okay, so he's gonna keep his wits about him and keep any hopeful romantics to a shimmer

but then he meets you, and all bets are off and he's kind of immediately smitten

still he's showing some restraint -- can't go banging on your door with a ring during week one just cause he doesn't wanna go to bed lonely

plus he barely knows you

but then he gets to know you

and he can't tell if he's just gone crazy, but you're honestly everything he's ever hoped for

and the more he knows, the harder he falls

but also the more he knows you, the more he feels like he can't just drag you down with him

you're a full person to him now, and that makes him love you all the more and also makes him think a 100th time about potentially ruining your life just cause he wants to hold your hand and wake up to you every morning

He doesn't think low of himself per say-- but he does see himself humbly

he's very proud of his farm and even prouder of his animals

but he doesn't think that all's going to just-- make you swoon or want to spend the rest of your life with him or whatever

so he's just quietly letting these feelings ride out on their own

he's flipping between hoping they die cause it hurts a little to pine so much

but at the same time, he's definitely in love with being in love

he tries to push the feelings down, but he can't help how his eyes linger on you when you go

or how your laugh brings him to life

or how seeing you just being yourself around town makes him fall a little more everytime

and he definitely can't help the dreams

they used to be more manageable but now they're basically every night

dreams about waking up to you

about watching the sky and animals together

dreams of living in domestic bliss

dreams of snuggling into bed with you

dreams of a few other ways to go to bed with you too...

he really tries to keep a reign on those ones... don't want his mind to be too indecent with someone he can't have

he's basically just walking around absolutely In Love with you but never feeling like he has the right to even try

even the urge to reach over and hold your hand is a right he doesn't feel he deserves

your affections will never be his to bask in

and your heart can never be his

even if his is yours and then some...

then, almost with perfectly fated timing, his past was back to haunt him

well if it wasn't the consequences of his actions poking his head out as a reminder why he doubted in the first place

still, he can't help it

Request for an Emerald

The mines were once famous for the quality of their emeralds. If you happen to find any, I'd pay handsomely.

Balor's handwriting was easily recognizable on the request board yesterday evening when I found his note.

Printed and a little scrawled, but perfectly legible. The kind of quick scribe that a merchant would need for scribbling down long lists of orders.

I found a handful of emeralds on my trip into the mines today. I'd been hunting for more silver- a dire need for a better pickaxe was buzzing around in my brain like a nest of wasps- but the request had been there, in the back of my thoughts, too. Impossible to forget or ignore.

Currently, Balor is stood at his cart. And I, like the oddity I am, am stood just out of his line of sight, the emerald I'd chosen to impart unto him resting in my palm. It is a little smaller than the others, but it boasts a cleaner cut, only a couple of minuscule inclusions, and is so vibrantly green I could almost call it magic.

The only reason I'm hesitating to approach my friend is because the wording on his request paper had also given me a bee in my damn bonnet, and I want to say something in particular when handing the gem over, but... I'm getting cold feet about it.

Yes. We'd gone to the Shooting Star Festival together.

Yes. We'd both been making occasional, lightly flirty comments toward each other since then.

And yes. Elsie has been bugging me about making a real move ever since the festival, which was over a month ago now.

But... still. I'm so woefully inexperienced and unprepared for any sort of romantic gesture or relationship. I'm terrified that I'm wrong about my own feelings for Balor, or that I'm misinterpreting his actions toward me.

I'm just... unsure.

I've never outright complimented someone's looks before.

I've said Reina has a nice fashion sense. That Celine's hair is always so well maintained. That Adeline has fantastic skills with her make-up.

But never...

Never someone's innate... well... appearance...

Never their face... or body, for that matter.

Even the thought of saying the words that have been harassing me all day is making my face flush so violently I worry I'm actually contracting some sort of illness.

Before I can well and truly chicken out, though, Balor turns, likely just bored, and spots me.

His usual, sly-ish, faint smile splits into a real, genuine grin, and he waves me over, and who am I to ignore him?

So, I trudge over.

"Evening, Maitiu," he greets me, and I can't help but smile back at him, "Had a productive day?"

He reaches out and brushes a bit of dirt from my hair, a bit of a smirk creeping into his smile.

"Yeah, yeah," I say, and lightheartedly bat his hand away, "Saw your request."

"Oh!" he exclaims, reaches for his purse, and begins to root through it, "The emerald? Here... let me..."

I hold out the emerald, "Well. Your post said you'd pay handsomely, but..."

Ugh. My hands are clamming up.

My face is surely as red as my famous summer tomatoes.

"Well... I wasn't sure how much that was, since..." I fumble over the words, feeling more insane by the second. Balor has paused his coin counting, eyeing me curiously, "Well. Since. Everything you do is... done. Handsomely."

Flawless execution. That was surely incredibly smooth.

Yes. I don't look stupid at all right now.

I stare so intensely at the cart behind Balor that I fail to really notice the blush creeping up his cheeks.

Instead of reacting normally, or behaving like a regular person would, I instead shove the emerald into his hands, mumble something about not needing payment, and scurry off back to my farm.

(I wake up the next day to find Balor has left a small pouch of 180 tesserae in my mailbox, alongside a note.)

Nah, I get it, though I’m not selectively mute, I can become extremely quiet when upset, and usually people notice because I usually never shut up lol, so I have ideas for these imagines. I hope they’re to your liking.

Warning, I know very little about selective mutism, so if I get it wrong, let me know.

Imagine your F/O coming to terms with your selective mutism.

At first, they assumed it was a quirk of your’s, that you would go quiet around certain triggers, but as time went one, they came to realize it was not something you could control, it was almost as if your vocal chords took a break but forgot to update you on their vacation plans. At first, they find it frustrating, because they’re only human, and they have limits, but as they spend more time with you, learn what triggers these silent episodes, and how to bring your voice back through whatever means usually works for you, they no longer feel frustrated, but actually find your ‘quirk’ both cute, and wonderful, because it’s part of you, and they love you.

So when you’re having a bad day, but can’t say it, just drop into your F/O’s lap and snuggle, they’ll know instantly that something is wrong and will immediately cater to your needs.

Because they love you for all of you, and that includes your selective mutism.

There you go anon, I didn’t want to make the F/O accepting immediately, because a lot of selfshippers do that, and personally I don’t find it realistic. I think the best people are those who may have had a negative opinion at first, but slowly and steadily grew to nurture and accept other opinions before changing their own. They’re the strong and empathetic, and they make me love humanity more than those who just accept everything at first glance.
