Grimm’s Dehumanizing Fatphobia
Grimm S06E05, The Seven Year Itch, aired on February 3, 2017. I had forgotten Grimm possibly being fatphobic, and thanks for the anon for bringing this episode up.

So, while they are not all fat, and they don’t have them shoving their faces full of food, it sure is suspicious that one of the few times fat actors are hired for this show are to be pig people…
Hippo wesen, lonely fat woman, amirite?
So, we get introduced to Mandy by way of “handsome” bug man, WIlliam, buying her a drink, while she is already having a drink with another guy, Donald.
We see what could maybe, possibly, under the right light, once a year, be considered a slight character flaw of Donald being territorial and confronting William about overstepping his boundary because he was already talking with Mandy. He didn’t like jump to “let’s take this outside” or anything, just was like “wtf, you need to stop” and went outside to smoke. William went outside with a drink pretending to try to make things right, and killed Donald.
And instead of Mandy thinking Donald abandoned her, the writers decided that she would be completely infatuated with this generic white man as if he was like 5x hotter than that Black guy she was just with and instantly forgets about him………
(For comparison’s sake. Donald was hot, and he didn’t look like a pretentious asshole, so fuck you racist-ass writers.)
Cut to, bug man about to drag Mandy into the ground to use her as a food source for the next 7 years. Grimm man shows up to try and stop him, but they have Mandy take care of him by biting his head off.
(The hair lets you know it’s a girl hippo.)
The only credit I give this is that she ends up rescuing herself from a damsel in distress situation. But that doesn’t go far because immediately after she says, “what does a girl gotta do to find a decent guy in this town?”…….
William, was a cicada wesen, who had just popped out of the ground after like 7 years (maybe less, based on the plot that he didn’t eat someone fat enough last time……). They didn’t cast someone “strange-looking” like bug-eyed or something, and, according to the storyline, was allegedly handsome. So, there is no excuse for choosing a fat woman to be a hippo wesen. Cast fat people for other roles, assholes.
