People comparing Zane to Heyhays other characters has got me thinking about similar qualities that most of their characters share. Specifically the fact that most of their characters are protective and self sacrificial.
Starting with the man who started this thought, Zane. In the last few streams it’s very clear that Zane will take the fall or blame for things if it means the people he cares for are safe. He didn’t care much for his safety from Ra but wanted Myth and Strix to be safe from them, leading to the deals with the ring.
And even if he was selfish, like when he did get Ezra to put on the ring, he has regrets immediately and took it upon himself to protect Ezra from there on out. His actions are driven by his need and want to protect those he cares about even if the price his himself.
The next character who I think is probably closed to Zane in this regard is Theo (big shocker I know). But a lot of Theos story is learning how to be less protective, cause he was overbearing with it especially to his family. Theos main drive is to protect those he cares about, that’s what caused him to run away in the first place and keep fleeing when and signs of danger show up. He also ran away when he felt that he was the danger to his family and their safety. He has to learn to value himself like he values those around him.
And the second character I feel is most similar to these two is Vast. Vast was raised in the idea of protecting everyone even at the cost of oneself. We see her be protective over Rune even for little things, like when his inventions hurt him a little. And obviously she’s protective of the avian race? surviving(don’t know what else to call the birds).
And, again, in regards to Rune “death”, they were so willing to give up their own life if that meant there was a chance of Rune coming back. Or being thrown back into the Avicane and humiliated to get Mo back from his mother.
Moving away from the ones similar to Zane, I think Manes also has these personality traits. While I can’t remember specific moments durning the server it’s mostly Manes backstory that I see these in. When Manes were still just Oz and Emil, Oz was protective and Emil was sacrificial. Oz with trying to protecting Emil from getting seriously hurt just to help him and Emil, tho they were conditioned, wanting to help Oz even tho that ment they lost their body. And then even when they are Manes, Emil gets mad on behalf of Oz and chooses to leave the small comfort they have in order for him not to be treated like that.
Then we have Io who was literally a soldier with the main goal of protecting their home. They knew the harm their enemy does and knew that they would rather die than inflict that on the people they’re supposed to protect. The deal to kill them seems obvious to Io, it helps protect their birds even though it cost their life(they’re fighting in a war they are more then willing to lay their life down if it ment the vampires lost).
Even durning Siege Io is trying to protect Percy and Cavity. Io refusing to tell where they live so Cavity doesn’t have to go through this pain again. Making sure Percy knew that it was Ios idea to run with Cavity when they returned to the cell, making sure Percy wouldn’t do anything to the first friend they had in centuries.
Or Io wanting to protect Percy and getting upset with him when he won’t let them. Trying to bargain to use them instead of they can’t physically protect him then (the war meeting against the council). And sunscape is just Io trying to protect Dawn and giving up everything they’ve been yearning for in order to do that.
And then Jay, oh boy do we have Jay. There wasn’t an action that jackal took that wasn’t steeped in protection or sacrifice. He chose to let himself turn to X just to help his sister hold on a little longer. He got killed cause he was questioning things that affected the people he cared about. Even at the end of Wild West he sacrificed the only place he’s ever know the only place he could talk with his mom in order to save Wyns life. That boy is nothing if not detrimentally protective.
Then there’s Aura who were introduced to by them protecting Navi from being killed by the Rionears and then continuing to protect it from the other people on the planet. Star learned out to make guns, and how to threaten others with them, in order to protect others. But Aura all works themselves to the bone in order accomplish these things. If they aren’t helping others then they’re useless so it doesn’t matter if they can barely stand upright or if they know the last time they ate if they’re helping.
And I’d like to highlight Aura became a criminal in order to protect Navi the first time, though star didn’t know that would happen.
And finally we have the blue print for this, Rae Morningstar himself. That man was trying to sacrifice himself even if the solution didn’t need a sacrifice. And he was too selfless to do anything that wasn’t for the others. His entire season 1 was him just trying to protect the others and leaving himself in danger in the process. Mans was willing to sacrifice all his work in order to free Fable even though he knew that ment he would forget it all. Half the reason Rae and Caspian got so close was Rae was helping protect everyone, especially Cas, and was wearing himself out to the point Caspian Soulcrest had to do something.
If any facts are wrong I wrote this before my 9:30 am class and went off only my memory
