I just saw on an old friend's Fakebook page a truly despicable hit piece on Charlie Kirk, portraying him as a violent racist targeting a specific black woman. It was so nightmarishly divorced from the actual, established facts of that man's life that it was like reading the mirror image of reality, and it was awful to think of this generally well-intentioned person gobbling all of that deluded hate up and regurgitating it out to the world, thinking they were doing good.
It's very sad to reach the point you can't think of any common ground you can share with the folks you used to know. World events look unrecognizably different to them: everything good is bad, and everything bad is good, and even attempting to appeal to a starting point of objective facts and reason will simply be viewed as a dangerous red flag to be best avoided.
It certainly is a lonely old life when you're right about everything.
