i love the metamorphoses so much it makes my heart ache ... why does this not translate into doing particularly well in exams on Ovid's poetry :((
and a dream that still aches!!!! leaving feels like getting your heart ripped out!!!! grappling with this feral dream in my fist!! i feel my dreams rotting underneath my fingertips!! goodbye whole dreams forever irredeemable. oxford you were a beautiful, perfect, desperately sad aberration. oxford thank you for being a lovely enough city for me to substitute you metonymically for my love, my sadness, my gorgeous gorgeous memories, my dreams that crumbled to dust.
even though i'm about to finish this classics degree i'm so excited to read about - and maybe write about - classics for pleasure again. I'll miss the concept of the twice weekly tutorial essays so much but in reality i feel like it's been a while since i've really got what i wanted out of them - i just want to read, to learn endlessly about classics, to grapple with these ideas by writing them out, to feel so excited and immersed in the flow of writing about classical literature, or the thrill or researching imperial roman history, without having to force myself to write to a deadline or to submit it for feedback. i worry that i won't have the self-discipline and motivation to do this without the institutional pressure of academia but i just can't see myself going into that and flourishing. but it's so important to me that i don't lose these joys, or forget these skills, of reading and writing about classics, and of reading greek and latin texts

I miss my college :(
compilation of my favourite photos of oxford this autumn!
featuring a few of the colleges, christchurch meadows, a library (in which minimal studying was conducted), oxford in the (not-so-heavy) snow, and oxford in the dark! now that january is right around the corner, more photos of oxford at night will be taken.
hope you guys have had a great holiday!
