Originally drew this Rocket for a collab which doesn't seem to be happening anymore, but I spent way too long on that frickin' gun not to post him so here he is
I wanted to make a comic set during the snap, during the 5 years that Nebula and Rocket were alone together— I think it’s such an interesting and unexplored time for both of them emotionally.
It’s also inspired by my own substance ahem overindulgence🤔 and how my loved ones still love me anyway and urge me to be better☝️
Art lets me exorcise my demons and that’s my favorite part about it 🦝

In vol 3, when Rocket hears the High Evolutionary’s voice through the comms and starts hyperventilating in a panic, I was crying so much in the theater, because I know what that exact feeling feels like.
Before my abuser died, they would harass me on social media a lot, and it was a really hard time. When my best friend learned of this, she grabbed the phone and cussed them out like crazy— I’d never seen her so angry. So when Quill grabbed the comm to scream back at the HE to protect Rocket in that moment, I just couldn’t stop sobbing.
It felt like my exact situation and story had been put to screen. To have your best friend stand between you and the one person you’re most afraid of just to protect you, fearlessly. It meant the world.
When I watch vol 3 with my best friend, she always squeezes my hand during that part. I love her. I love Rocket, I love that he survived and I love that I survived too.
There’s a million other ways that I could ramble about forever in which Rocket’s story moves me, but that part in particular always gets me.
I think it’s so beautiful that Guardians tackles such intense themes and topics with such care and love— it’s given me the strength to further artistically explore my feelings about what I’ve been through.
Rocket will never have to be hurt by his abuser again, and it makes me extremely happy to know that neither will I.
Also Today I Learned that Rocket and Judy have "canonically" met in Ralph Breaks the Internet. So I guess that movie wasn't entirely pointless after all.
I’ve been trying out a new brush lately on clip studio paint, it gives a different effect than what I usually go for which is fun! It always feels good to stretch and try out different techniques with digital art programs :D
To play with this new brush, I chose to doodle a Rocket bc of course, who else? He’s my guy!
Sometimes, you don’t realize how much you’ve truly healed until something unabashedly joyful hits you in the middle of the day. You may have already resigned yourself to the pain in your life long ago, when all of a sudden, you find yourself smiling at the face looking back at you in the mirror— and you realize just how far you’ve come🦝
