Sound of your Heart [Bluesey]
I am incredibly late but here is a preview for my piece for the @blueseyzine. I highly recommend checking out everyone’s work and all the contributors on it sbecause they’re all lovely people and super talented! Thank you to @bleulily for organising it in the first place and to @thaidoodles who I’m collaborating with AND helped me with editing! She’s done the sweetest, softest, most perfect piece to go with this fic and it has been a pleasure working with her (also she has awesome oc’s who you should definitely ask about and we share fandoms!).
Anyway, here’s a bit of the fic!
“Isn’t it stunning?” Gansey picked up the one record they had. It wasn’t spectacular. A large black disk. Perhaps the most normal item they had in the entire room.
“It’s…” Blue stepped forward and let her finger trace from the horn elbow to the tip. “It’s beautiful.
"That’s not the best part!”
Gansey flipped the record onto the turntable and wound the crank. When it was ready, he carefully dropped the needle on the disk.
For a second, it scratched.
Then, the music flowed. Blue didn’t recognise it, but by the looks of it, neither did Gansey. Sharp, pleasant chimes introduced the lively rhythm of the music. It was a string instrument, played, not plucked but it was not an instrument of Earth. Neither of them had heard it before, but as the music picked up, so did Blue’s heart. More instruments joined in. A shimmer sprang out amongst the melody, and Blue had a strong desire to take Gansey’s hand and drive. Just drive until they found another adventure. The music reflected it. Onwards and upwards.
Gansey’s smile was softer, true. He traced his fingers on the turntable and looked at Blue, wonder in his eyes. “Look,” he tugged her gently to him. This close, Blue could feel his warmth. Gansey pointed at the needle, and Blue noticed that though the record was turning, the needle didn’t progress any closer to the centre. It remained on that same track, yet the music carried on singing out from the horn. Was that all there was?
The string instrument faded away, replaced by delicate rings of what sounded like wind chimes. But none of it was random. Chords whispered softly, and they reflected the sound of wandering stars. There was something else about this object. Blue noticed Gansey staring at it intently, as if expecting it to do something outrageous.
