This would be awesome!!

The worst thing I’ve laughed at all week
I’ve seen this almost a month ago and to this day this day I have yet to recover
Merfolk concept:
I don’t really see many theories on Merfolk so I thought I’d spill my thoughts lol
Merfolk are aquatic primates (distant cousin of humans) they have human level intelligence and are truly hermaphroditic in anatomy and are capable of adjusting there hormone levels to best suit there reproduction/hunting needs at that given time
Exp: (a merfolk deciding to appear more “female” to attract male human pray but reproductive wise remains “male” or vise versa. Or a colony low on “male” members can transition to help reproduction. Being mammals they would have live young and are omnivores
There are three major types of merfolk (salt, brackish and fresh)
~Salt water merfolk are restricted to salt water
~Brackish water merfolk are able to adjust to both water types
~Fresh water merfolk are restricted to fresh water
Merfolk would still have head hair for attraction purposes and to aid young in holding on allowing there harms to be free. They would have scale like hair on there lower bodys (tails) and arms to help protect their skin from abrasion (similar to where humans have body hair) this “hair” would range in a few different colors depending on the location (salt, brackish or fresh)
Merfolk have denser muscle mass and a higher core temperature allowing them to stay slimmer, swim faster and allows them to be more hydrodynamic then most aquatic mammals although they would still have a slight layer of fat since the water would still be to cold for 6 pack abs lol
Merfolk have an unhingable jaw and a vary strong expandable throat which allows them to swallow and crush some pray whole. they also have a retractable set of sharp dang like teeth that when out cover there “human” teeth these sharper teeth stay hidden in the gums/jaw just under the others until needed. They also have retractable claws that hide just under the original nails
Merfolk produce a type of venom that once in the human blood stream starts to alter the dna causeing the human to slowly transition with contact to water (have a lose theory behind that lol)
Merfolk are capable of transitioning between land and water although it is painful. (I have in-depth theory on how but it’s to much to put here lol)
Merfolk can breath threw one of two ways:
~They have a pair of lungs that they use to breath air like humans
~along with a pair of webbed ears that pump water to a set of internal gills (adapted set of lungs) that are located in the lower neck
Although they can communicate similar to humans above water under the water they communicate threw a complex range of clicks, chirps, whistles, groans and hums. There sinus cavities, larynx and throat have adapted to aid in excellent singing allowing them to hit a much wider range of notes then humans. they can even produce notes that seem “captivating” which they use to lure humans or attract mates
Do to there human level intelligence I believe merfolk socially selectively breed these traits over time to help progress there species to being an apex predator. humans learned to change their environment to best suit themselves. While Merfolk learn to change themselves to best suit their environment. Do to this way of developing merfolk have a different social structure on certain things then humans do. regarding young, mating, social positioning..etc
Exp: a human mother has a physically disabled child and decides to support it long into adulthood even after it should be old enough to support its self
A merfolk mother that had a physically disabled child would only care for it until it should be able to support its self. after that the mother would abandon it. (If not just abandon the child at birth)
(Now this isn’t saying that merfolk don’t protect there own after a certain age it just means that if a child can’t make it on it’s own it doesn’t make it.)
Some colonies might decide to be nomadic and hunt and gather while other colony decide to be stationary and farm
~Merfolk would have a less monogamous society with a wide range of different relationships
~There living habits would vary from colony to colony
~They would mostly work with primative tools
That’s most of what I can remember off the top of my head but I’m open to any questions (mostly because it gives me reasons to adapt my theories) plus because honestly merfolk are my favorite subject and I love talking/theorizing about them lol
So I always start out really enthusiastic when I draw, always like "im just gunna draw this with not so much detail and everything will be fine. However cut to me an hour later having done one person, no background and no color. How the fuck can I stop this nasty habit?
I think you and me have the same habit! The way I’ve been working towards stopping it is simple backgrounds. Abstract like the last video I posted or maybe a sky. Easy stuff first-PLAN THINGS OUT  when you sketch that person make sure you sketch a background too, that forces you to make a finished piece. Color everything in, in flats, it helps everything look less daunting! ( As artists when we see a white page it scares us!) - Thinking what’s the mood I want this picture to have? ex this picture of Trish: I wanted it to look like you’re looking through the eyes of someone that thinks she’s the most beauuuutiful girl in the world like someones in love with her ( I sound crazy)  BUT that made me think: ok dreamy lighting! soft blurs, saturated colors, warm atmosphere, so a summery garden came easy (I forced myself to do the background 1st so I wouldn’t chicken out lol)
so thinking of the mood first, sketching the background, flat coloring it all in doing the part you hate before worrying about detail stuff later <3
Writing Research - The Middle Ages
Middle Ages (or Medieval period), lasted from the 5th to the 15th century. It began with the collapse of the Western Roman Empire and merged into the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery. The Middle Ages is the middle period of the three traditional divisions of Western history: Antiquity, Medieval period, and Modern period. The Medieval period is itself subdivided into the Early, the High, and the Late Middle Ages. [1] [2]

Been practicing with my new markers. Got some TomBow Dual Brush markers in skin and hair tones. I might color the rest later if I can get some blues for the denim. Tried doing some practice drawings with different tutorials, and it didn't work out so well. My advice is when you start trying new mediums, definitely check out the tutorials, but also stay true to your style. One of the tutorials said start with the darker tones and then layer the lighter ones over them. I'm used to starting light and going darker over time. Whatever your niche is, work with it.
ART TIP: Drawing the body first before you draw the clothes really makes things like draping, folds, and shapes so much easier. I used to draw the clothes at the same time I drew everything else and that led to people looking extra stiff and awkward it also screwed with proportions so body first then clothes! Â
