It was almost too easy, watching his face redden, watching his teeth grit. It brought all the memories back and as she watched him calm, she knew her easing on the reins had worked all too well. Watching the steam rise from the cup, the raven haired girl watched him bring it to his lips, cringing slightly as she watched the hot liquid pour into his mouth, head shaking at the mere thought of burning her tongue. It was the only that kept her going in the city of devils angels. She fit right in, the partying scene so much more effervescent than Dayton could even believe. “You missed me – Come on, admit it. No one’s around to hear,” she murmured as she rose from her seat, sitting herself down next to him, looking over to the laptop once more, making sure to keep her voice low as she spoke. If it was one thing Dayton had been notorious for, it was overheard conversations, and nosy ass neighbours. “Yeah, well, what can I say? I didn’t have anyone bank rolling my life anymore and when I fall, I adapt,” she muttered with the shrug of her shoulders. “A good insta photo, cute room tour, try on hauls – easy money. You always did say I have the chops for modelling. Turns out on camera, short girls can do it too. Make everything look pretty enough, anyone’ll eat the bullshit up with a golden spoon.”
Taking another sip of the molten coffee, he could only focus on the burning sensation working it’s way down his throat rather than feeling his anger, forgetting how much Loralai got to him. He should have known better than to try and talk to her again, but if it wasn’t like this she probably would have broke into his house to come and accost him regardless. “A tiny bit. You’ve missed a whole bunch of shit though,” he told her, looking over at her when she moved over, leaning over to throw some napkins on top of the spillage he caused before it touched her laptop. “Yeah, what happened with all that? I thought I was going to have to make fun of you for being broke,” he teased, listening to the way she spoke about her newfound fame, wondering if every skinny tea brand promoter was as psychotic as his ex. “I only told you that because we were dating, but I’m glad I gave you the inspo. As long as you have an outlet to take out your crazy on, the world is a safer place.”
