The day Shikamaru asked her to marry him was one of the happiest in Temari’s life. But as time went on and the inital joy wore off, the implications of what that meant crept up on her. As she looked at the wind worn buildings around, the craigs that have held strong through decades of strife, she realized she would have to leave the pillars that have supported her in her moments of greatest needs. Shikamaru would never force her to choose, but she knew she had to. He was too important in Konoha, they needed him there. She was important here too, in Suna, but professionally her work had been largely outside of the village anyway. No, what she would be leaving were her brothers, the two who have stood by her unwavering, always.
