More thoughts on BNHA 293
Note this is before Iâve read the translations, like everybody, but!
God please Horikoshi end this arc, Iâm emotionally fatigued part 2
I was hoping that Mirio was Toga in disguise. I donât mind him getting his powers back! I figured it might have had something to do with Monoma, I didnât think Eri was ready yet. I guess she is? I donât know, the pacing doesnât seem right to me. This is (Iâm guessing)Â âSeason 6âł and she just was introâd/started training in Season 4/5, right? It just seems too fast. But eh.
As I said in another post: I understand, we were all attached to Ground Zero, but that wouldâve plopped Horikoshi into another hot water situation a la the doctorâs name (Maruta I think? I donât recall) because of Nagasaki/Hiroshima. Plus, I like the fact that Iâve seen posts that Bakugo is using the same kanji from King Explosion Murder. Itâs very Bakugo. Heâs 15/16. Let him live.
Dekuâs shout to Dabi, okay, letâs go!
Dabi will NEVER forgive Endeavour. Itâs reminiscent of âYou cannot escape the pastâ. Dabi never received the closure, the apology, the therapy; his entire existence since his âdeathâ has been this obsession with revenge. His actions are understandable for someone who has been shaped by abuse and mental illness. Does that make it just, or morally right? No. But in Dabiâs mind, from his perspective, there is nothing else that will change it. He will not find peace until he gets his revenge. I love Dabi as a character so much; he is VERY well-written, but remember: well-written doesnât mean morally good.
Deku can empathize and sympathize with Shotoâs story of abuse, but he never experienced it first-hand. That makes SUCH a difference. He HAS experienced Endeavour genuinely trying to aone, he HAS experienced Shoto slowly coming around to forgive his father, he HAS experience Endeavour being a legit solid menor in the internship. So all of his responses to Dabi are valid.Â
Shoto is in a twisted place, caught between the above. He experienced the abuse, but heâs also coming around to forgiving his father. Not everyone can do that, and there is NO OBLIGATION for him to forgive his father. Endeavour said as much when he let the family live without him. But the fact of the matter is that Shoto is coming around, and as HE was Endeavourâs victim, if HE chooses to forgive him? Thatâs okay. We, as an audience / outsiders do not get to say NO YOUâRE NOT ALLOWED.Â
In the same boat: We, as outsiders/an audience do not get to tell Dabi he SHOULD forgive Endeavour, leave Shoto alone, let his family âbe happyâ, etc. We have no right. Of course the fandom IS going to sit there and scream and freak out and fight about right vs. wrong, but the fact of the matter is that if youâre not the victim, you donât get a say in what they decide. Even if itâs a decision that they regret later, if you really love the characters that had been abused, you will respect their decisions.
Of course, this is a manga/anime and people are going to scream anyway because we are an audience. But just as far as people losing their shit, itâs not your story, bro.
