âIt is insane. If I were you I would complain right away.â
âYou know, donât get me wrong. I love my job, but it is so tiring doing the same thing over and over. I think it might be time for a new one.â @secretsummerstartersâ
âIâm sure no matter what you decide your parents will be proud of you. If you donât love it donât do it.â
shelley-burkeâ:
âI wouldnât know how that is.â she said not meaning to truly say it but she still felt the backed up resentment that came from her parents infantilizing her treating her as if she couldnât handle schooling or a job. âIf youâd like to join Iâd like that.â she said after a moment. She wanted a good relationship with her parents she truly did but for now it felt like she wasnât going to get one no matter what she did
âRight.â Maybe he should let her get a job. Even if it was part time job, at least it was something. He just worried. Like always. But he couldnât help it given everything. âI would love to join you.â But he was trying here. So that had to mean something right? âDo you want to walk downtown or the park? I donât mind either way.â Which was the truth. He didnât.
shelley-burkeâ:
Shelley bit her lip hearing her father. She was still nervous he was going to send her back. She always was worried about that. She grabbed a breakfast bar wondering what answer would appease him. âI was planning on talk a walk around the park.â she finally said after a moment. âWhat were you planning on doing.â
Bobby felt guilty which is why he felt like he couldnât connect. But he was going to try and make it up to her. She deserved that and so much more. âIf you donât mind I would like to join you. Seems a lot better than just working.â
@shelley-burkeâ
âHey kiddo.â Bobby smiled over at her for a moment before looking at the case file. Taking a sip of his coffee. Maybe he should try here or something. âWhat are your plans for the day?â He questioned, after he put his coffee down and looked over at her.
jane--burkeâ:
Jane laughed softly as he moved his arms around her. âIt is.â She nodded, smiling as his lips brushed against hers. âWe could go make out on the couch like weâre teenagers.â She suggested teasingly.
Bobby couldnât help but grin at the suggestion. âYa know what? I really like that idea. Especially if the girls arenât here.â He took her hand and led her over to the couch. âHow long do we have?âÂ
jane--burkeâ:
âMy day was fine, uneventful as always.â Jane told him. âBut the girls are both out for the night, which means we have the house to ourselves.â
âWell we should change that.â Bobby put his arms around her. âIs that so?â He questioned, before leaning in and brushing his lips against hers. âWhat shall we do?â
âYouâre home-â Jane smiled as she spotted her husband in the kitchen. âWhat has you home so early?â She asked, walking over and pressing a kiss to his cheek.
@bobbyâburkeâ
âI am.â Bobby smiled, as he finished making his sandwich, looking over at her for a moment. âI had an early day and then I got hungry.â That smile widened on his lips when she kissed his cheek. âHow is your day?â
Name: Bobby Burke Age: 47 Sexuality: Heterosexual Gender: Male Portrayed By: Ewan McGregor Availability: Closed
âBeen scary round here the past few years but Iâve got full faith in the police department.â
â Background
Much like his little sister, Sherry, Bobby has always liked things to be perfect. Even if, on the inside, youâre a complete mess you should always put on a good face. Always smile, always dress the part, always be nice. The siblings picked it up from their mother, who raised them by herself and was something of a control freak, and it just sort of stuck. Bobbyâs grandparents werenât like that and he remembers his grandfather telling him one night that something bad had happened to his mother years ago to make her like this, and Bobby didnât want to upset his mum by calling attention to it, by saying that it didnât matter. So he went along with it and urged Sherry to do the same, to protect his mother⊠and eventually it just became a part of who he was.
He met Jane Clark when he was seventeen. She was very upfront with him from the start, telling him she couldnât have children, but Bobby liked her a lot even at such a young age, and he wanted to see where it would go so he stuck around regardless. If they worked out⊠they could adopt or something. It was a surprise when baby Ella came along not even a year later, a big shock but a lovely one. She was their little miracle and Bobby doted on her. When Sherry was born years later, it was almost as if the novelty had worn off. Bobby never meant it but he gravitated to Ella more, gave her more attention, seemed to love her more even. When Shelley was fourteen and started showing signs of mental illness, perfection-focused Bobby convinced his wife to send her away to an institution in London, and then practically forgot about her. As did, it seemed, most of the town.
â Back to Baberton
Bobby has been a partner at Steve Batesâ law firm for many years now and he likes the work. Sometimes youâll get the odd client whoâs a bit stupid or even guilty, but Bobby likes what he does and heâs damn good at it too. He likes his colleagues, his family, his life. Everything sure does seem perfect from the outside and it would seem that Bobby has it all. Heâs on good terms with his sister, who married Michael Baker and now lives in Wales with their newborn son, and their two other daughters have moved to Baberton for a while. Bobby keeps an eye on Evie and Andie, the girls mean a lot to his sister and while he may not exactly like her husband or the Baker side of the family, heâd never let that slip and itâs not like the girls are at fault. Sherry asked him to watch over them while theyâre here because of the murders and thatâs what he intends to do. Maybe they can get closer to his own daughters, even Shelley who by now is home from the hospital. Bobby still sort of avoids the poor girl but heâs very busy, a lot of the time, so itâs not like heâs doing it on purpose⊠right?
â Whatâs His Secret?
Feels incredibly guilty about the way he just pushed Shelley aside and sent her away all those years ago. Bobby loves both of his daughters immensely and he hates that he treated her like that and basically ignored her for eleven or so years. Even when she was let out for birthdays, he always made sure he had to work or was âbusyâ so that he could avoid her, mostly just because even then the guilt was just so strong. Bobby knows that the way he is isnât great and that perfection doesnât even matter but itâs something he canât seem to switch off, though heâs trying. Heâs started looking into therapy with one of his friends and psychiatrist, Nathan Hope, and he hopes that thereâs some way his friend can get into his head andâŠ. fix him.
