First of all, I don’t even know why you sent this on anon because there’s about  2 or 3 people this could’ve come from and I’m pretty sure I know which one you are… so next time grow up and just send me a normal message if you have a problem or go complain on your own blog. Here’s what I have to say:

1. GROW UP. People were celebrating Harry for trying to bring awareness to the suffering and need in Puerto Rico, which, no matter how you try to spin it, is a good thing that he didn’t have to do. You trying to take that positive, minimize it, and call out other people for celebrating it exhibits a complete lack of maturity. Much like you sending me this nasty message on anon.

2.  Neither I nor my friends are racist. You attempting to make my defense of Harry’s actions about race or hatred misses the point entirely. And let me tell you something else. I am a Black woman living in the United States of America. I know what oppression looks like. I know what it means to not have justice served and to not have the needs of MY people met. Ever. I know what it feels like to feel like the rest of the world doesn’t care. So please don’t try to come at me with assumptions about how racist I am or as if I don’t understand what it means to be ignored and marginalized. 

While we’re at it, let’s get another thing straight – your people are not the only people in the world suffering and in need right now. Not even fucking close. YOU probably didn’t realize this but there have been major disasters and floods recently in India and Africa that have left thousands of people dead. Thousands of people displaced. There are terrorist attacks happening all over the world, devastating countries and communities. On any given day there are literally thousands upon thousands of urgent needs and issues that need to be addressed. 

But Harry decided to specifically address the crisis in Puerto Rico. He decided to tell people to send love and support to the people there because they need it. He brought attention to an issue with the hope that people would take action. But instead of seeing it for the awesome act of kindness that it was, you decided to complain about it. Which???

I can’t imagine Harry deciding to shine a light on the plight of my people and feeling anything other than grateful for the gesture? Like listen, the day Harry waved a damn Black Lives Matter flag or something, I think I’d be so overcome with joy I don’t know what I’d do. Certainly not belittle it because he didn’t post a link lol. And I know BLM and a natural disaster aren’t the same thing, but the point is Harry is not obligated to address either of them. But he did address Puerto Rico in his own way. And yes, no matter what you say, it was enough.

3. My last point is, don’t come back to my blog. I’ve said what I want to say about this and I’m done. If you come back with another nasty message I’m blocking you. xx

People were exclaiming about how monumental it was for Harry to wave a pride flag at his shows. But now Harry with a PR flag is not doing enough? Him speaking out about sending love to Puerto Rico is not enough?

How will “sending love” to Puerto Rico in any way help the people in Puerto Rico?? being an artist and an activist are not things that cant coexist, and saying “you can donate to the hispanic federation“ takes literally two seconds. No one is “condoning” Harry for waving a Puerto Rico flag, no one is saying that what he did was wrong or bad, but this all started because people were praising him for doing something that helps no one, people are suffering, MY PEOPLE are also suffering, and seeing you all praise him for not actually helping just goes to show how much you actually care about issues that doesn’t affect you personally, how much you care about poc’s issues, because the moment poc open our mouths you all send us anon hate or make posts telling us we are being annoying and disgusting and how we should be grateful that he waved a flag at his concert. So no, it isn’t enough.

do you know why people are being so passive aggressive about Harry's team fighting for him to get a Grammy? like everyone's team does that to an extent. and we always talk about how 1d deserved at least a nomination, maybe if their team had fought for them they would have got one.

I was actually lamenting about this to a few people tonight. The way Harry’s being treated actually reminds me a lot of how women are often treated- it’s ok to be ambitious just as long as you’re not TOO ambitious. It’s great to go for something as long as you don’t make it look like you’re trying too hard.

Personally I say fuck it. If you want something- go for it. Fight for it. Use every tool you have at your disposal (and yes that includes money and connections because that’s how the game is played).
