Guys I wrote Cheronica! And I like my finished result!! Itâs for the zine!!! Iâm excited, can you tell.
Itâs not until the following week at Riverdale High that Veronica witnesses that initial scarlet mane once more, and she realizes has indeed not quite yet met everyone worth knowing in Riverdale.Â
To her surprise, that hair goes arm-in-arm with yet another redhead (whatâs a group of redheads called? she wonders. A rash? Whatâs in the water here?), a boy of such ghostly complexion that Veronica canât help but notice the contrast to the girl beside himâwho stalks through the hall like she owns the place and gives off the fiery glow of pure belonging.Â
âKevin, whoâs that?â
Kevin looks up from the latest issue of The Blue and Gold (ââMeatâ Miss Beazley, RHSâs Cafeteria Stalwartâ). âOhâthe Blossom twins. Jason and Cheryl. Youâve met them, havenât you?â
âNo, I donât think so? Introduce me?â

in case you havenât already been thoroughly convinced that you need to order the @riverdaleprideandjoyzine, and in case you didnât know you needed a beronica subversion of the OG comics love triangle, this is a six sentence sunday from my contribution, would you have me, would you want me?
The truth is that Betty has, pun unfortunately intended, had Veronica lodged in her psyche for weeks.Â
It begins when Ginger, Bettyâs roommate, lures her onto another dorm floor with the promise of better alcohol than gross welcome week frat parties. Not that Betty is particularly interested in alcohol, but it seems like the right experience to get under her belt, and a girlâs dorm room was far safer than a frat house.
The alcoholâa small-batch family owned rum called Lunaâis delicious, but maybe itâs just how Veronica Lodge offers it to them. Telling the story of her grandmotherâs recipe, pouring an inch into cut crystal glasses. The pursed-lip smile she gives Betty as they cheers, salud. The rum coats her mouth with sweetness and spice, and Betty will associate this flavor with Veronica for years to come.
While I'm here, here's a lil peak at one of the stickers I designed for the @riverdaleprideandjoyzine sticker sheet i did for the bundle! A bi-shake-ual beverage to fit the "pops pride milkshake" theme a lot of the zine has! There's 4 other sticker designs too around each of the 5 chosen sexualities flags

âYou could blame it on him,â Jughead murmurs.Â
âExcuse me?â She blinks rapidly and he sees her eyes are a bright green that almost match her blouse.Â
He nods toward the security desk. âIf this Webster guy gives you a problem for being late. Mr. High-and-Mighty Security Officer wonât give me my badge and Iâve been here for half an hour. You could say he gave you a hard time, too.âÂ
Thereâs conflict in her eyes, as though she is the type of person who would never throw someone undeserving under the busâor even someone deserving, at that.Â
âWhy wonât he give you a badge? I assume youâre an intern, too?âÂ
Jughead shrugs. âGuess I donât look the part.âÂ
She purses her lips, weighing his words. âSeems like an asshole, then. I suppose it could be his fault.â

When their food arrives, Betty wets her lips with wine, and asks, âWhy?â
Jughead smiles at the simplicity of it. âWhy what?â
She tips her chin towards his plate. âWhy are burgers the great love of your life?â
He raises an eyebrow. He means for it to convey something like, I will stand on this chair and belt Sinatra at you if proof is so required, and you will hate it.
Betty laughs. He figures it lands.
âI donât know,â Jughead answers after a beat. âThey just taste good, I guess.â
âThatâs all there is to it?â
âSorry to disappoint.â
But after a few bites, he surveys the dinners of the upwardly mobile.
Atlantic salmon. Seared diver scallops. Brick chicken. Bettyâs plate is heaped high with kale and quinoa, and he wonders if there is something juvenile about his own, something blue-collar she might politely be hinting at.

a preview from my story Pop Tate, Working-Class Hero: The Untold Story of How Popâs Chocklit Shoppe Became a Worker Cooperative for the @riverdaleprideandjoyzine
Pop Tateâs favorite time in the Chockâlit Shoppe has to be 10 AM on a Sunday morning. Itâs peaceful and quiet, a proverbial calm before the storm: late enough that the working-class stiffs have already downed their coffees and gone, but early enough that the inevitable tables and tables of churchgoing families are still sitting in their church pews.
Itâs rainy today, and Pop takes a moment while wiping down the front counter to stare out the window, mesmerized as always by the simple beauty of rainwater dyed pink and purple and red by the dinerâs dull neon lights.
He chuckles when he hears the distinctive roar of a particular motorcycle. Sure enough, the foggy outline of two matching helmets swims into view, a blonde ponytail hanging from the back as the bike stops and the engine cuts. A smirk still on his face, Pop continues wiping as he waits.
The truth is, Pop Tate has been expecting Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones for a couple days now.

âWell, why are we still sitting here, then? The pie is gone. And thereâs a weird bug on my leg.â
âA weird bugâ piques Jugheadâs interest enough to force him into action. He nudges the hat off of his brow, rolling onto his side just far enough to see, but Archie has already brushed the offending creature onto the grass.
Disappointed, Jughead flops back down. âBecause we need some time to digest, Archibald.â
He lets his gaze drift up to the dappled green leaves above his head, but along the way he catches a glimpse of Betty, sitting with her back against the tree trunk, bare feet in the grass. Sheâs watching him, a small, almost-smile on her face.
He shoves his beanie back over his eyes before she can see the matching one forming on his.

preview from my story last summer at band camp for the @riverdaleprideandjoyzine about LOML Melody Valentine (in which I wrote her a love story with Munroe bc we deserve more Black love stories in Riverdale.)
Melodyâs face grows warm as she thinks of her friend Munroe, who kissed her goodbye on the last day of camp. She hasnât told her friends about him yet. Boys have always chased her; she was the first Pussycat to have her first kiss back in middle school. But Melody never really cared about any of those boys before.
Munroe was different. They became friends almost immediately, two of the only Black people in a sea of white faces. After eating just a couple meals together, she found out that they liked the same music, that Munroe played guitar and football, which accounted for the absurd abs Melody tried hard not to stare at. The pair maintained a steady yet increasingly flirtatious friendship throughout the summer, even performing together at the open mic night on the penultimate night of camp.
Then, as they were saying their goodbyes, he cupped her cheek and asked, âcan I kiss you?â No one had ever asked Melody that before and she found herself answering the question with her lips.
