She’s gone and done it, offended him. She knows it, the atmosphere’s shifting and she’s also shifting while reaching for her smoothie. Even if it’s not free anymore, she’s going for that smoothie, she deserves it right now. Not for totally making an ass of herself, not at all, she’s used to it by now so even if she fells bad or guilty, there’s no true ways for her to actually be remorseful. Because she has this motto that if she says it, it means she meant it so why feel bad or guilty about it?
But he did help her earlier in not getting possibly dragged to the nearest police station. That would have broken a promise she made years ago to her father, then she would have been in big troubles. So she also leans over the counter to ask the cashier if he can give her his drink as well, yeah she came for a free smoothie and she’s treating now, just great. But she just has to think of the good cause. Not to be forgiven, but to not let someone walk away with a sour mood.
“Keep the change.” She rushes out as she puts the money down and follows behind the company she’s managed to chase away. She’s not sure how she’s going to do this without apologizing, she refuses to apology, it might just get worse because she’ll stumble on her words and look even more insincere. She’s never been good at saying sorry without wincing or looking like she meant it.
“Hey bogus guy!” Wrong start, she knows it the moment it’s out of her mouth. She’s biting her lip wishing she could take it back, but it’s already out so she’s clearing her throat and running ahead to stop in front of him, holding both of her hands up to block his way. “Wait, let it be my treat then, I’d feel bad to know I offended an apple tree. I used to have good memories with the old ones, I’d climb on them and they’d save me you know, Hide me, like you did.” If it’ll be accepted or not, she’s not sure but she’s holding the extra drink towards him.
“I was seriously not laughing at what you do and with what it means I think that’s kind of nice, especially the part where there’s nowhere to go but up.” She almost adds that the word itself is what still sort of tickles her, but she’s not going to ruin this. She’s here to be proper now, so that if she parts way with him, it won’t be with a huge negative impression. Tough luck on that one, but she’s willing to try. “I’m just not good with saying things nicely, which isn’t an excuse, I assume entire responsibilities of my bad behavior.” It’s easier that way if she doesn’t want to live a self-loathing life till the day she dies.
Maybe he's making too much of a big deal out of this. They barely knew each other so her offensive reaction to his name and his music couldn't have been intentional? Or at least he wants to believe that. His struggle with being a cynic is apparent and he doesn't have it in him to hold this against her. Though a larger part of him wants to. His naivete and desire to always see the good in others prevails.
Because he wants to believe that it was just a mistake even if she's lying to him. He wants to believe that his good deed earlier has sparked some kind of friendship for them because despite his social nature ( or his well crafted attempts at being so ) he doesn't have very many of them, and though she'd upset him with a sensitive topic she had an energy that he couldn't deny intrigued him.
But his pride is apparent, and his hands are jammed into his pockets as long legs move him much quicker down the side walk than her. He considers for a moment out of spite moving away from her a little faster so that she couldn't catch up. He throws a glance over his shoulder at the sound of his ( dj ) name and finds that difficult to achieve. Instead his footsteps slow until they're side by side once more.
"Hey short girl." He snaps in retaliation but it's not in anger. There's a smile on his face because her earlier reaction to the term hadn't been a good one. It was obvious that any allusion to her height would not be taken in stride the way he'd been about his own. But he didn't mind that. Now they both had leverage to use against each other. "Really?" Cameron truly did want a smoothie. It was something of a ritual for him to grab one and head out to his next gig. Walking another four blocks over just to prove a point didn't seem that beneficial.
He's hesitant at first but takes his raspberry orange dream smoothie and pops the straw into his mouth. A long sip later his grin turns grateful. "Thanks. Sorry about just um walking out on you earlier. I tend to get pretty sensitive about my music." Even if she'd only been referring to the name. He knew it wasn't the best, knew it'd been completely lame when at the age of fourteen he latched onto the word and started sticking it on every forum name he had. But in his mind he was doing something cool.
"You mean that?" Cameron needs the reassurance, wants to be sure that he hasn't come across another person willing to make him feel terrible over his dream. He gets enough of that at home. "No I get that. It's cool. Thank you. I mean..." He wants to steer the conversation away from himself now. "Did you, did we exchange names? Um, I'm Cameron." He wipes his hand and holds it out to her and then awkwardly bows.
