Bombino Performs on Rai 3's "Che Tempo Che Fa"
Bombino was a guest on Che Tempo Che Fa, last night on Italy's Rai 3. He and his band performed "Imuhar," from his 2013 album, Nomad. Among the show's other guests was none other than Jay Leno. You can watch the performance below.
Bombino is currently touring Europe; for details and tickets, visit the tour page.
"Nomad" Named to NPR Music, Rolling Stone Year-End Best Lists
Bombino's album Nomad has been named among NPR Music's 50 Favorite Albums of 2013. He and The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, who produced the album, "turned out to be a fabulous team," says Bob Boilen, host of NPR's All Songs Considered. "What you hear on Nomad is Bombino's already vigorous sound with a bit more bite." Read more, listen to the album track "Amidinine," and see the complete list of NPR Music's 50 Favorite Albums of 2013 at npr.org.
Nomad was also recently named to Rolling Stone's list of the 50 Best Albums of 2013 and to Uncut's list of the Best World Music Albums. "For this raw cross-cultural jam, Omara 'Bombino' Moctar—a hot-shit guitarist from Niger—hooked up with Black Key Dan Auerbach, who produced the LP with a crate-digging R&B/psych vibe," says Rolling Stone. "It's full of hypnotic fuzz, and the cosmic country of 'Tamiditine' conjures Workingman's Dead—if it'd been made in the Sahara desert." Read more at rollingstone.com.
To pick up a copy of Nomad, head to the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl orders include a download of the complete album at checkout and are now 35% off the standard retail price (about 20% off the everyday low prices listed on the site) through the holidays, as part of the Nonesuch Store anniversary sale.
Bombino and his band recently concluded their 2013 tours of Europe and North America. They head next to Australia for New Year's and performances at The Falls, Southbound, and Sydney festivals into mid-January, after which they kick off the next leg of the European tour. For details, visit the tour page.

NPR Tiny Desk Concert
Bombino stopped by the offices of NPR Music in Washington, DC, during the first leg of his US tour earlier this year, to perform a Tiny Desk Concert—the 300th episode in the series of intimate sets at the desk of All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen. He and his band perform three songs—"Tamiditine," "Her Tenere," and "Imuhar"—from his new album, Nomad.
Boilen, praising Bombino's "fierce, hypnotic guitar playing" and "amazing jams," also recognizes a "familiarity in his music stems from the blues," with connections to Jimi Hendrix, and "a sense of simple, honest discovery that shows up in his smile as he plays." You can read more of what Boilen has to say at npr.org and watch the performance below.
Bombino, currently touring Europe, will return to the States later that month to launch the next leg of his tour, which will extend into December. For details and tickets, visit the tour page.
