CANDID FAMILY
I just got back from a trip to Indiana to visit my Grandma. My cousins and Aunt from Portugal were there as well this year. Every year we get together, we take a family photo on my grandma's porch. Usually this is the first moment I've taken out my SLR the entire year, so, while I'm fiddling with the ISO, F-stop, and shutter speed everyone has plenty of time to hang out and set up the photo. I also end up taking a few photos during this time and even though no one is paying attention, they often turn out to be my favorites of the trip. Here are a few of these candid moments from my trip this year.
Je presente.... my newest frankenstein. A short done for a winter quarter class that I stealthy passed on to Animation Prom at UCLA.... The World of Whiskey.
More from my work at LORE. Original on top for contrast.
My thesis film is slowly taking shape. In the last cut, I've focused on how the act of cooking and sharing food communicated my grandfather's experience immigrating and adjusting to America. Here's an article about recalling memories through the stomach that I've enjoyed, hope you do too!

Here's a Valentines Day card! It's from me to you because deep down, I have a soft spot for human beings, even if it seems like I hate everyone. Generally feel pretty neutral about this holiday. Trying to start making holiday cards to get better at my tricks and skillz on the computer.
This morning I was putting together some vintage ski pictures at work and came across this great tumblr: vintageski.tumblr.com. The posters, postcards, and photos collected there made me want to leave, pick up my camera, and ski away. I picked some of my favorites to post here.
In my documentary workshop we are presenting documentaries that have inspired us. For me that documentary is Ryan by Chris Landreth. This film is about Chris' interactions with Ryan Larkin, a once active animator who had stopped animating for his vices. It is a beautiful use of animation and an inspiration that animation does not have to be solely a medium for children's entertainment.

I go to school for animation, but I also like to design things. Here's a thing I designed at my internship today that I am more proud of than the rest of the things.
this is my goung-goung with his paper family. my grandfather is the man on the left, the other people are strangers. on paper they appeared to be a family so that they could all claim to have a relative already living in the united states if one of them successfully immigrated.
