jealous garrett being controlled and intense while jealous dean is explosive is sth so pleasing
The boop threw me off
Absolutely nothing beats Valentine's parenting strategy of "this is my good son who I keep in the house and my evil son who I keep in the shed. They're both named Jonathan"
I started a graphic audio listen of fourth wing for the first time, and I feel like I completly glossed over Dain and Violetâs relationship. Like my eyes must have glazed over because I knew Xaden was the real love interest.
But with listening to it, I canât tell if itâs just the way the narriator speaks influencing me but Violet was so down bad for Dain.
Like thatâs your best friend and you immidiatly start flirting with him talking about how youâre totally down to pretend you two are hooking up? How youâll moan his name so everyone can hear it?
And Dainâs like totally not phased by it? Heâs just like âoh you, havenât changed at all have you Vi?â
Violetâs internal monologue makes it seem like she wasnât actively trying to change her relationship with Dain from friends to lovers, but she was certainly acting like that was her ex-situationship.
Out here instantly hitting on and flirting with her best friend. How soon after she dumped Halden was she acting like this that Dainâs used to it?
Iâve always been in the âVioletâs not that Whineyâ camp, a card carrying Violet Sorrengail fan club member, but I fear she hasnât even begun to face the Girl Best Friend allegations, especially with the way she keeps going to him in Iron Flame and Onyx Storm like âI need youâ and hitting him with impossible asks and he just does it, no matter what.
All Iâm saying is the worst part about dating Dain Aetos might just be his undying loyalty to Violet Sorrengail, but hey, as least she doesnât flirt with him anymore.
I feel like we as a fandom talk too much about who the new brother is and not enough at all about the fact that Tairn almost killed Gradyâs dragon for trying to question Andarna about being Irid the same way he almost killed Solas when Varrish tried to punish Violet for Andarna not showing up to flight maneuvers.
Except this time Andarna was there to get the dragonâs tail while Tairn had the neck.
Tairn is such a protector đ
Xaden: [Cat] wasn't my first by a long shot
*cough* whore
I cannot wait for Xaden Riorson in his villain era. He has so many reasons to destroy Navarre and itâs going to be so fun to see what he does because I really truly believe that he is going to be a monumental pain in the ass to ALL sides now that all the responsibility is off his shoulders.
Navarre:
- Tortured and Executed his father
- forced him to take responsibility at 17 years old for every marked oneâs actions so that if they did something wrong, he would be the first one punished
- took away his title and tarnished his familyâs legacy with the âgreat betrayerâ bullshit to the point he actively fought against being in a relationship with Violet because he knew it would affect her
- ripped him away from his cousin, his best friends, and his home to be fostered elsewhere
- ripped apart siblings, which he may not have had but he would have seen how hard that was on Liam.
- burnt his home to the ground (even though Aretia somewhat survived)
- passed laws specifically targeting him and his friends so that they couldnât gather without risking execution.
- passed laws so they couldnât even all be in the same squad
- forced him to protect the daughter of the woman who was personally responsible for hunting down everyone loyal to his father and dragging them to his executions who also tortured him as part of the deal.
- without any actual concrete proof tried to punish him for stealing by giving him the choice of fighting in a battle with dark weilders he had no reason to think he would win or be responsible for choosing not to fight and condemn civilians to die
- killed off 5 of his closest friends and most trusted people in the world between Resson and trying and cover up what happened in Resson. (Liam, Soliel, Ciaran, Eya, Mason)
- constantly attacked the rest of the survivors
- put his dragon into constant pain by forcing prolonged separations from her mate
- tortured the woman that he loved for 5 days to bait him into deserting his post so they could declare him a traitor and Torture and execute him
- and, even after admitting the necessity of fighting the dark Weilders and allying with Pomoriel, still tried to exert control over him by making his relationship against the rules and put him under constant surveillance to try and catch them together
- threatened to invade and attack his territory and citizens for allowing refugees in
Pomoriel & Tecarus specifically:
- tried to force him into an arranged marriage
- tried to force him to endanger the few riders he had loyal to him by insisting the Luminary only be fired in Cordyn, which would have made the dragons stationed there huge targets for dark weilders
- forced him into the position where he had to risk his and his friends lives to steal daggers to supply them with since they didnât have a luminary
- put the love of his life in an arena with a starved dark weilder & treated it like the nights entertainment to watch her fight for her life
Dark Weilders:
- this one feels kind of self explanatory. The root cause of all of the above problems, and
- endangering Violet by association
- hurt Sgaeyl
The fourth book is going to be Xaden Riorson hunting his enemies and getting his revenge while having phenomenal dream sex with his wife while she chases him across the continent trying to restore his soul.
I donât know what my full theory is yet but I was doing an onyx storm reread and I donât think that the Veninâs souls are actually destroyed.
This is the header for chapter Chapter 62.
And then almost immidiatly after Violet is losing in battle against Theophanie, and to distract her, Violet brings up Dunne and how Theophanie was a high priestess and can never go back. And this was Theophanieâs response:
Followed by what we see of Xadenâs transformation from an initiate to an Asim, how he goes from describing his soul flaking away like ash and power replacing it, To talking about the bond with Violet wedging itself in the opening, locking it in place.
I donât think that drawing on the source actually kills their souls. They keep saying it kills their souls but also that drawing on the source without an anchor is bad. What if they just canât feel their souls anymore and thatâs what makes them evil?
Maybe Violet can dream walk to Xadenâs soul and bring it back.
By Klemiki.
This. This is just amazing. The flat look Violet has with Dain. The stars in her eyes with Xaden and daggers. Tairn's exhausted deadpan expression and Andarna's thumbs up is... Gold.
Thanks @liminally-challenged for pointing out my mistake about Dain.
Modern AU where Drake posts videos of Mira and Broccoli cuddling with the caption âmy wife and the cat she didnât wantâ
The way Xaden was so pressed about how his reputation would affect Violet, how he tried to push her away because he knew people would treat her differently for it, be horrible to her for the association through all of fourth wing is made so much funnier knowing that the only way that Violet could assure him she was capable of handling it was telling him she had experience with it.
The way his mind would have imploded had she just gone:
âActually Iâm used to people saying really mean things to & about me because of who Iâm dating because thatâs what it was like when I was dating Halden. You know, the Crown Prince of our country?â
The way that manâs brain would have glitched between jealously that Halden was with his Violence and fury that Halden didnât give a shit what it did to her reputation.
the most hilarious part about the empyrean series is when violet is one of the last riders to channel power, and the day that she finally does, she just gets REALLY horny. and you're like what the hell, is violet's signet power being horny? and you start wondering what you're reading đđđ
I think Fourth Wing lost any hope of being considered a serious fantasy book when Xadenâs dick started causing natural disasters đ
the best scene in all tsc is when Valentine turned jace's wayland ring upside down and was like. congratulations you're a morgenstern
you know which character i REALLY feel bad for in fourth wing?
Baide.
literally at the beginning of chapter sixteen, violet says that, âJack hasnât quit staring at Tairn across the field.â Can you imagine being Baide, whoâs so happy to have found a rider thatâs just as ferocious and violent as her â only to realize that your chosen rider doesnât even want you because youâre not big/strong enough? and then giving him your trust and keeping his venin condition a secret, only for him to pull a fast one and LITERALLY stab you in the back? Ouch, man. Baide, for all of her violence, deserved so much better than jack barlowe.
Baide got what she deserved for picking Barlowe as far as Iâm concerned. She knew who and what he was.
Baide bonded Barlowe after he actively hunted Andarna, a baby dragon, and then ran from that fight when it wasnât as easy as he thought. He turned not long after threshing, and Baide still stuck around. Meanwhile other dragons were letting their chosen fall during flight manuevers.
I think Baide wanted a venin rider because she actually wasnât all that strong and powerful. Thus Barlowe getting pushed around after threshing. I wouldnât be surprised to find out BAIDE pushed him to turn. That she thought having a more powerful rider would make her seem more powerful, and that she was also tired of getting pushed around by the more powerful dragons and saw it as a way to up her status since dragons are known for the signets their riders produce.
I keep seeing people upset that Haymitch never had another partner, or that he ânever got overâ Lenore Dove. That he was left miserable for the rest of his life. That he shouldâve been given another love interest â a real one, not just anyone. And honestly?
Letâs talk about it.
1) Haymitch is not unhappy.
He literally says it: he doesnât drink to numb the pain anymore, he drinks because heâs an addict. And yeah â I wish he had stopped altogether. Some of the most heartbreaking deaths Iâve seen in real life were due to cirrhosis.
But that doesnât mean heâs miserable. Heâs surviving. Heâs healing.
2) The Capitol love interest people want for him? That wouldnât have worked.
Sheâs brainwashed. Period. And if she werenât, we would see it in the text â either through Haymitchâs eyes, or Katnissâs. Both are reliable in different ways.
In Panem, when someone from the Capitol is pretending, or disagreeing silently, it shows. It leaks out.
If Haymitch were to have another love interest, it would need to be:
⢠someone from the Districts,
⢠maybe even another Victor,
⢠someone who understands his trauma and oppression firsthand.
Thatâs the only way it could ever make sense.
3) Haymitch did get his happy ending.
And again â he says it himself.
Heâs happy because Peeta and Katniss are his family.
He let people back into his heart.
Heâs at peace, because Lenore Dove doesnât haunt him anymore.
Heâs moved on from her death.
Now, he sees her old and happy â and that gives him peace.
Haymitch is happy.
You donât need a romantic partner to be whole.
He made peace with his past.
He let his ghosts rest.
And most importantly?
No more children are chosen to die in the Arena on his birthday.
For the first time,
âHappy birthday, Haymitchâ isnât a burden.
