"You could have been killed!" Ashur said before he could stop himself, too loud, too sharp. He wasn't supposed to care this much.

Tarquin gave him a face. The face he always gives him, that says he doesn't need to be coddled but there is almost a begrudging humor to it. Its almost invisible to anyone who doesn't know him, the smallest quirk of his lips, the way the lines deepen around his eyes...

Tarquin was down to his tunic and unclothes, pulling the last of a pair of neat stitches along the top of his thigh. The cut wasn't deep, he'd turned out of the blow just in time, but the movement had shaved the skin up in a flap. He'd bleed like a stuck pig and Ashur, loathe as he was to admit it, had panicked.

"Wasn't though," Tarquin said, snipping the suture and setting his scissors aside. He'd done this before.

Ashur sighed, frustrated.

"Quin..."

Tarquin's face softened, and he held out a hand. After a moment, Ashur took it. Tarquin pulled the hand to his lips, pressed a chaste kiss to the skin warmed metal.

“I can stay the night, y’know," Tarquin said, "if it’d make you feel better.”

Ashur reached up with his free hand, storking the fingers over the line of Tarquin's jaw. "I'd like that."
