i have so many regrets right now about the final direction i took for my eng ext 2 essay and half of them couldve been solved by reading dune messiah like. two years ago

Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert My rating: 5 of 5 stars wow that was. an Ending I liked this book a lot more than the first one, I think because it had more character development, and was physically more contained than dune, with its massive reach and distances. I'm still not too sure how to feel about the whole Alia romance, but for what it's worth it did have some Quotes. The whole Leto thing kinda fucked me up at the end, too. Yikes. This took me forever to read - I started it the day I got it on christmas eve, but barely got 60 pages in, and churned through the rest of it in these last three days. Hopefully this burst of motivation is due to this uni semester finishing, and I'll be able to finish of the series in a more reasonable timeframe lmao. View all my reviews

Book haul from Sydney Writers Festival!! some of these I already owned (illuminae + anything but fine) but I got them signed + got the opportunity to have a chat with the authors!! Also chatted with a couple of authors whose books I didn't get (Kay Kerr + Ella Baxter)

So so thankful that I got to meet them, and for the kind notes they wrote! I loved what they had to share in their various interviews and talks - I cannot wait for next years festival

Anything But Fine by Tobias Madden My rating: 3 of 5 stars Apparently having a dance academy phase is something that just becomes a part of you forever, because I saw ballet, and the next thing I knew I was walking home with this book in my bag. No spoilers, but as I read, I felt like the Luca/Jordan plot was supposed to be the focal point, and for me at least it just wasn't. I would have loved to have spent some more time with Amina's character, especially her story before meeting Luca! I also wish we could have explored a bit more about Luca's move to North - I think I'll ramble more about this on my tumblr later, (I'll link it here once I do), but there were some eerie similarities between Talia and some girls who I myself went to private school with. I would love to see if Tobias Madden in the future writes more about that kind of elitism, the little that we see of how he deals with it in Anything But Fine was extremely accurate. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes netflix romcoms like Never Have I Ever, To All the Boys, or the Kissing Booth. This was a super quick read for me (took me a couple of hours after dinner) and would have been a really fun but not mindless read too if I hadn't had flashbacks to my own experiences in the arts and private schools haha. Okay, take two!

So, as Sydneysiders might be aware, the Sydney Writer's Festival is currently underway (well, I say that, but today is in fact the last day of the Festival weekend, with the official Last Event being next Thursday).

I've been volunteering at the event, helping out with the Secondary School's days as well as ushering at Carriageworks and I've had the time to sit in on some really interesting panels and presentations - I'll post an update after tomorrow on the stack of books I've acquired/gotten signed by authors on said panels!

Now that I've been ~inspired~ I'm going to aim to post here at least once a week - after chatting with a handful of new and emerging authors I have regrets that as soon as I finished my HSC I stopped writing completely. I think part of it was I wanted a break from being 'forced' to write almost daily for my process journal for extension 2, as well as starting uni and adjusting to a different kind of workload and way of learning.

Anyways, I have an assessment whose due date is creeping closer every minute, so I'll wrap this up, but I'll be back 💜
