you can’t not be a feminist and like shatter me that’s just not how it works
you can’t be a trump supporter and like shatter me that’s just not how it works
Exactly because shatter me is a dystopian book series which focuses on the erasing of culture and diversity from a corrupt government but uses the main characters to show how wrong those viewpoints are, yet trump is actively using ice to deport anyone who is not white, therefore erasing culture and diversity, while also actively causing harm to women’s rights…so how can you love this series AND trump??
I think a lot about how in shatter me the republic worked hard on erasing all culture and religion from the face of earth. And it most likely worked. The concept the world being void of the diversity of culture is such a weird and odd thing to think about, and i think it’s such a huge waste that was not explored more. Nazeera -for example- wears a scarf (hijab) only out of solidarity for the women that she watched suffer but she has no idea what it truly means or represents, and she never will because even after Juliette took over, the knowledge that was lost can never be regained . And how they had gotten rid of books. Because they realize how valuable books are. And to control the people they needed them to be ignorant and uneducated. I hate how the romance aspect of the series got more attention than that (by both tahereh and the fandom)
I completely agree I wish that tahereh had really gone into depth with these topics, while I loved the romance aspect I was looking forward to that political and representative part of the story. I wish we had seen more about the fact that they are especially divided based on class and the fact that culture is being erased because I feel like that would really add to the dystopian genre of the book.

The worst part about writing is that sometimes you actually have to write.
The best part about writing is also that sometimes you have to write.
I will not elaborate further.
